Chapter 118 Finding Out The Truth.
Chapter 118 Finding Out The Truth.
Roman's POV
I left the bags behind as I rushed over to Asher's side, grabbing his hand before he could punch Kieran once again.
I couldn't hide the pride on my face as I pulled him to me and he finally huffed in annoyance.
“I already told you to stay away from me. Try me again and I'll fucking rip your head off.” Asher snarled as he tried to lunge at him again but I held him back.
“We can't be reckless now, love. You don't wanna get suspended again—”
“I don't fucking care if I'm expelled, I need to teach this motherfucker a lesson. I've put up with him for too long!” Asher groaned in anger as he kept trying to pull out of my grip.
I finally spun him so that he was facing me and that seemed to make him calm down, even as he glared at me.
“If you don't stop, I'll kiss you in front of everyone.”
“Liar.” He spat as he moved out of my grip and turned to find Kieran dragging himself to his feet.
“You asshole! What is wrong with you? I wasn't going to kiss you! The fuck?” Kieran complained as he wiped blood off his face and I scoffed in disbelief.
“Allow me to apologize on his behalf.” I started and Kieran turned to me, a look of realization crossing his face when he saw I was holding Asher's hand.
“You both have gotten back together, haven't you?” He muttered with a disappointed scoff and I shrugged with a grin.
“We were never apart.”
His face twisted in annoyance as he suddenly tried to charge at me but then a loud whistle echoed in the air, making him freeze.
The watching audience scattered almost at once as someone stepped forward and my face fell at once.
Dad.
My jaw clenched as he walked forward, his eyes narrowing at the sight in front of him. Why was I meeting with people I didn't want to see the moment I arrived?
“What is all the ruckus about?” He asked and my hands clenched into fists as I looked away from him.
My birthday was a week ago. He definitely didn't remember it. How would he? He never cared about me anyway.
And I didn't need him anymore.
Before anyone could respond, he continued, his eyes dropping to me. “Roman, come with me to my office.”
I didn't move after he spoke and his gaze narrowed at me.
“Roman, now.”
“I don't want to.” I muttered before I could stop myself and he paused, his eyes raking over me for a second before stopping at my hand intertwined with Asher's.
“You know what will happen when you defy me, Roman.” He said, an underlying threat in his words, and I scoffed in disbelief.
“I'm not defying you. But it's been two long weeks away from the university. I believe I have the right to rest upon arrival.” I replied calmly while Asher gently patted my hand, as if gesturing for me to just go with him.
Dad laughed in amusement as he walked down the pavement and then stopped in front of me.
“You won't make it to the NHL without me and you know that. So come with me or forget about it.” He said lowly and I wanted to scoff in his face.
He thought he was the only one with power?
I was just about to tell him to go fuck himself when Asher stopped me with a tug of my hand. I glanced at him to see him shake his head so I held my tongue and sighed.
“Fine. I'll go with you.” I replied in defeat and a smug grin spread out on his face like he knew he could control me with just a single word.
And he would call himself a great father.
I finally let go of Asher, who returned to grab our bags, and then followed behind the man I called father.
Silence filled the hallway as we walked towards his office and then we stopped at his office. When he pushed the door open, he gestured for me to go in and I heaved out a sigh before walking in.
My eyes caught sight of a box sitting on the desk and my heart flew to my throat. It looked quite decorated, like a present.
I didn't know why I wanted it to actually be something he got for me. Something to prove that he wasn't such an awful father after all.
I hated him but damn it, all I ever wanted was a father.
I guess we couldn't always get everything we wanted.
“I see you got back together with Asher.” He started as he walked over to his desk and I remained silent. “Or… you never actually went apart. I wouldn't lie, you had me fooled.”
“I don't know what you're talking about.”
“That little stunt you guys pulled that night? You think I didn't know that was fake?”
“That wasn't fake. You would have been the reason Asher would hate me forever.” I spat and he looked at me in surprise. “Luckily, I grew up to not be like you. I knew what I had to do and I did it.”
His hands clenched into fists as he stared at me for a moment before chuckling in amusement.
“Good. Good.” He said with a smile and my gaze narrowed at him.
What was he up to? Why was he so happy?
“Your birthday was a week ago, wasn't it?” He asked and my heart skipped.
He actually remembered.
“It doesn't matter.” I replied, my voice cold and distant, and he hummed in response.
Then he pushed the box towards me, gesturing for me to take it. My heart was pounding harshly in my chest as I stared at the box for a moment.
“Take it. It's for you.” He muttered and I reached for it anyway, despite myself. I slowly pulled it open to see a jersey of the Vegas Golden Knights team, making my brows furrow.
I never exactly liked VGK because I was loyal to my favorite hockey team. Why would he get me a jersey representing this team?
“What do you think? Do you like it?” He asked, obviously excited but before I could reply, he continued. “It doesn't matter if you like it, you'll be wearing it from now on anyway.”
“What?” I questioned, my brows furrowed in confusion and he rubbed his hands together.
“What is confusing you? You'll be joining the Vegas Golden Knights team in the NHL! You're welcome!” He explained and my heart literally sank to my stomach.
No… no, no, no…
“But—”
“Don't tell me you thought I wouldn't know that you both got drafted by the Seattle Kraken. Playing around behind my back.” He cut me off and panic filled me as I stared at the jersey in front of me.
How did he find out?
