Chapter 35
Sean’s POV
I stopped running as I felt Izabella's pull getting further away from me. She running from me! Why was she running from me?!
I didn't even have time to think about it because I heard growls from my left and I turned to see a crowd of the bear-like wolves growling and barking at us.
"Shift." My father ordered. No. I'm not fighting until I find Izzy; this would only make her get further away. I couldn't take a chance and possibly end up losing her pull again. They all shifted, but I set off running in the direction her mate pull was taking me.
I heard footsteps behind me, and I knew some of my pack had followed me. I stopped as a house came to view.
"I smell fire," I mumbled.
"Travellers? Don't worry, they're practically powerless now." Marcus said.
"How? They took over his body once. I would like to think that's pretty powerful." Jason said. I agreed.
"Yes, but now there's a spell that prevents it on that house. So whatever you do while we fight them, keep them inside, and don't leave the house." Marcus said.
"Got it, shift," Corey said. This time I did what everyone else did, shifting before I ran, leading them into the house.
I sniffed the air and followed Izabella's scent up the stairs.
"You killed her! You killed my Julie! And now you're going to watch me kill Clara!" I heard the familiar Traveller's voice shout. Edgar. Izabella had called him when she called me that day.
I ran into the room and stumbled seeing him pinning Izabella to the wall. His hands were secured around her neck as he burned her, and she couldn't breathe. Just because they couldn't take over our bodies didn't mean they couldn't burn us. I launched at him and bit deeply into his thigh.
I heard him cry out but suddenly all the noise from the house was gone. I instantly jumped back as he dropped Izabella before I launched in front of her and growled at him.
He had teleported us from the house. I could no longer touch him because then he would just infest my body. I had to kill him without touching him.
I heard Izabella get up and growled at her, but she ignored me and ran into the corner of the room.
"Izzy," I heard Clara. Wait, if Clara was already here, that would mean he wasn't the only Traveller around. I shifted making the doors slam closed as I did.
Before the Traveller could say a thing, I grabbed a vase and threw it against his head. He wasn't expecting it, and I was incredibly fast, so he fell back.
This must have been their house because the room had closets in it. I opened one and found a pair of shorts as I heard pounding on the doors.
"You need to leave, I'll stall," I said to Izabella, having put the shorts on.
Izzy didn't argue as she pulled Clara off the bed.
"No! No! You're not going anywhere!" The Traveller shouted, and the room burst into flames.
'Go!' I shouted at Izabella through a link as I grabbed a cupboard and flung it at him.
He didn't have werewolf speed, so he couldn’t get out of the way, and once again fell back as it smashed against him. I didn't let him rest this time; I grabbed the mirror and smashed it onto him, but I froze hearing Clara scream from outside. No. I began to step towards the window, but at the same time, the doors smashed open. Before anyone else could touch me, I felt Edgar’s handgrip. My skin and I instantly began burning.
"I'm going to make you watch while they burn them. You'll watch as I kill the stupid slut who killed my Julie." He hissed. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't shift. He slammed his flaming fist into my face using his free hand. I had no doubt he tore through my skin with that punch. I couldn't even stumble back due to the impact because he held me in place.
I fell to my knees, my entire body burning, but that wasn't what mattered, because outside I saw the other Travellers burning Clara. Izabella was out of my sight. I was being so weak; I wasn't even helping them! That thought enough made me livid, and suddenly I had a rush of adrenaline. I fought to move my muscles and turned to stab my hand into the Traveller's chest ignoring my pain. He gasped.
"Call off your team." I hissed through the burning.
"I wouldn't heal anyway..." He coughed, "And I'd be with Julie. I have nothing to lose anymore, but you, you have everything to lose, and whether I'm here to watch it or not, I will enjoy your pain and Izabella's too." He chuckled. I was so angry; I just ripped his heart from his chest, but right afterwards, I felt a stab through mine.
"Fucking disgusting tick magnet." I heard another Traveller as I fell onto the floor.
No, I couldn't die. I needed to help Izabella and Clara first, but I still couldn't move either. I shut my eyes as tears filled them. I was a failure.
I suddenly heard more smashing, grunts. My eyes shot open, but I couldn't see anything except feet and I was too weak to smell. Who else was there?!
"Sean?!" I gasped as someone pulled the knife from my heart, "Drink this." I didn't try to object as Trent shoved a bottle to my lips. When I tasted blood, I instantly shoved it away as I spat what was in my mouth out. I couldn't drink my own mate's blood. Trent shoved it back to my mouth forcing me to gulp more of it, and I felt myself heal.
"Why let it go to waste when it can help our packs fight, Sean? It’s already out of her body." Trent took a sip of it. I grimaced but realised he was right, so I grabbed the bottle and downed what was left before I got up and jumped out of the same window Clara and Izabella had. The moment I was within reach of a Traveller, I killed them without hesitation.
I wasn't the only one. Trent was killing too, as was Corey, Tyler, and a few others.
"How did you find us?" I asked. Even after all the fighting, I wasn't even a little tired. Her blood was… incredible…
"Another Traveller teleported when he realized his friends were all getting killed, so we tagged along," Corey said before he shoved me aside and kicked a Traveller back. I launched at it and ripped its heart out. "I've got Clara, get Izzy." He said.
I turned but froze when I didn't see her. No. Her pull was getting further away. I set off sprinting in the direction I felt her in.
"Come closer, and I will stab her." I froze, "We all know her blood doesn't help her." The Traveller added, looking terrified, very unstable.
I gritted my teeth, clenching my fist seeing Izabella's burnt body against him. Why was she healing so slowly?
"I'll let you go if you let her go," I said.
He snorted.
"Yeah? While the rest of your – stay back! I'm not playing!" I flinched, forcing myself to stay back as he stabbed the knife into Izabella’s side before he withdrew it.
"Fine! Okay!" I said stepping back. He smirked pushing her hair from her face. She was unconscious in his arms, I didn't like the way he was touching her. His arm was around her waist while his hand touched her neck as he held the knife.
"I see Edgar's mark is gone..." He chuckled.
Even though I was happy about that, I couldn't find a hint of a smile as he held her.
"I'll let you go. I swear. I'll forget you exist." I said.
He chuckled.
"I've already lost all there is to lose. You've killed my family, my brother, my wife. It's only fair that I return the favor." He lifted his hand but I heard a snap before the Traveller fell to the ground nimbly as someone else's arms circled my mate.
I looked up from the dead Traveller.
"I might not be an Amarelo, but I'm the best Novoluní wolf-warlock any of you will ever know." Marcus smiled.
I laughed at relief before I ran over to them and took Izabella from his arms. The burn wounds were almost gone, but the stab was not.
"Thank you so much," I whispered to Marcus as I hugged her. It was over. It was all over. I finally had her back.
"I'll leave you two alone." Marcus disappeared as Izabella stirred in my arms.
Her eyes opened, and I smiled, but she pushed away from me as soon as she had enough strength, which wasn't much, because she stumbled away from me. I felt my heart sink. She can't possibly still hate me. I had done everything I could to prove that I loved her. Yes. Love. I had done everything a good mate would, right?
"Izabella," I whispered. She sent a smile at me as she rubbed her side, now almost completely healed. We were both silent as I watched her look around. "What do I have to do?" I finally asked. She looked at me as she swallowed.
"You can't do anything." She mumbled.
I shook my head ignoring the ache my heart felt. "We'll talk later..." I whispered, "We have to get home." I added.
"I'm not going home."
