Chapter 27
Izabella’s POV
I sat staring at my door blankly, my knees to my chest. Dad wasn't back yet, and Cohen was locked in his room. No one could find Gray, not even Bianca and she was his mate.
It was my fault. I knew that. I should not have been there. I should have stayed inside and not been so stubborn about fighting.
Adan’s mate Riley was crushed. She just fainted after finding out about him. It turned out she was pregnant. Adan was going to be a father. When she woke up, she refused to see anyone. I needed to apologise to her. I needed to check on her. I slid off my bed and walked out of my room and towards Riley and Adan's. I pushed the door open to find her at her dresser, her head in her hands. She did not move to see who had come in.
"Riley," I whispered as I shut the door.
"Don't come closer." She replied. I stopped as she looked up, "Just get out." She muttered. I swallowed turning to leave but I stopped when she spoke again. "It's your fault." She gave a dry chuckle. I turned around, she was standing now, pretty close to me. I opened my mouth not knowing what to say because she was right. Instead, I dropped my head. "He was trying to protect you, everyone was trying to protect you. The only reason we're getting attacked is because of you!" She exclaimed. I stepped back stunned when she screamed, my back hitting the door as she stepped closer, "He died because of you! You should have listened! No, no. You never listen. Ian should have left you where he found you!" She was saying.
"Riley –” I began but a smack to the side of my face had me silent.
"It's your blood! It's you! They wanted you! Not Adan! He didn't deserve this! We don't deserve this! It's all you! I hope you feel what I feel right now! I hope they do to you exactly what they did to him because this is all your fault! Sean's mother, your mother, your parents, it's your fault. It's all your fault, Izabella." She said. I tried to blink to push my tears back as I stared at her shocked, but it didn't work. "Don't ever come near me again." She muttered. "Get out!" She yelled when I did not move.
I didn't have to be asked twice and quickly left the room.
"Izabella, she didn’t mean – don't –” I heard Cohen but I ignored him and ran downstairs.
I locked myself in Joe's soundproof study. I was angry, but I was broken at the same time. Was it my fault my blood was like this? She was right though. I was so stupid. I should just have listened. I grabbed a vase and threw it against the wall. It smashed sending shards everywhere. I couldn't see through the tears coming down my face as I grabbed a book but froze. For a big book, it was awfully light. I wiped my eyes trying to stop my crying as I opened it and found two USBs. Why were they hidden? It was none of my business; it was probably just Joe’s work. Still, I sat on Joe's chair and turned his computer on before plugging one into it. It was a video recording of a meeting.
I didn't recognise the place, but I recognised most of the people as Alphas, including my dad and Joe. They were talking about grouping packs just to fight this unknown kind of werewolf and the Travellers, but the other alphas didn't seem to be interested. They were asking what they would get out of it. My father said they would live considering that these wolves were stronger than anyone else, and they said they would risk it. My dad was looking very annoyed and tired trying to convince them until one spoke.
"How about you give us something in return for our help?" He was a bald Alpha.
"What could I possibly offer you?" My father asked.
"Well, there's this rumour that your niece isn't dead, Joe. Your daughter, right Ian? And I recall that she had some special blood –” he was saying.
"No." My father cut him off.
"Wait, that girl who's blood could make wolves stronger? I thought that was a myth." Another Alpha said.
"It is," Joe said.
"It is not." The bald Alpha said, "We want our help? Just give us –”
"No." My father cut him off.
"Oh, come on, Ian, we're not asking you to kill her, just give us some of her blood." I shrunk back a little. They wanted my blood to help our packs?
"You expect me to drain blood from my daughter's veins for your help? Would you have done that to your own if you were in my position? You're sick." My father said.
"Maybe, Ian. But these wolves are attacking you, not us. Why? They want the same thing they did when they murdered your sister and her husband, Joe. They aren't going to attack us because we don't have her." One of the other Alphas spoke.
"Maybe they won't, but these Travellers are after all of us. We could deal with the wolves on our own." Dad sighed, "When they attack your packs, remember that I told you so. We're done here." He turned to leave.
"We'll get her blood anyway, Ian. You can either give it to us and get our help in return, or we can take her from you." The bald Alpha said.
"It's pretty funny that you think your pack can take anything from us, Hank," Joe said. I knew him. He was from a small pack not that far from ours... Not that strong a pack though.
"You're making more enemies. Someone is bound to get her, and when they do, you'll never see her again, Ian," Hank said.
My father turned around. "I could have your entire pack killed in seconds, Hank. If I so much as think that you're trying to take my daughter, or hurt her, I will kill every single wolf, pup or not, in your pack while I make you watch." Dad said. "Good day." He greeted before the recording stopped.
I sat back pulling my knees to my chest. I hadn't thought my blood was that big a deal until now. Riley was right; this was all my fault. And now, without even meeting those Alphas, I had made more enemies for both Galaxy and Inferno. I shut my eyes. If I left or died everyone would be okay, no one else would get hurt because of me. My blood was nothing but dangerous to our packs.
'Mate' I froze as a voice sounded in my head. It wasn't Sean's or anyone's I recognised. 'I can hear you crying, I feel your pain, I can help you.' The voice went on. I looked up. The Traveller that marked me? 'Yes, I’m Edgar.' He said. I tried to block him out of my mind but it wasn't working. My wolf growled softly. 'You can't block me out, Izabella. Listen, I'm a very powerful wizard too, I can bring Adan back.'
I tensed.
'What?' I asked.
'I can bring him back, I've done it before. Meet me, follow the pull.' He said. I gave a humourless breath.
'Why would I meet you? You’re lying.' I asked.
‘I could be or I could not. We travellers have magic you could only dream of, Izabella. How do you think we came back from extinction? We brought ourselves back.’ I furrowed my brows, ‘You caused his death, you can bring him back. Don’t you want that? For his child, his mate? Don’t you owe it to him?' He asked.
I bit my lip. Of course, I did. I wanted Adan back badly. But I did not know this traveller… he could be lying. If there was a chance he was not though…
'You'll bring him back?' I asked feeling my eyes burn. My wolf growled at me. She didn't want me to trust him, but we owed it to everyone to find out if it was possible.
'Yes.' He said, ‘I'll expect you here in fifteen minutes.' He said before blocking me out. I swallowed nervously. My wolf was trying to convince me not to go, but I suppressed her as I got up.
I left Joe's office and ran through the house, so no one would see me leave. I was out in less than a second before I began jogging towards where Edgar's pull was leading me. I stopped when I felt Sean closer. Were they back?
'Izzy, where are you?' I felt my chest tighten as I heard him. I had missed...
'Forest.' I replied.
'Forest? Are you crazy? The pack got attacked yesterday and now you're in the forest by yourself?" He sounded annoyed.
'Yes, I can take care of myself.' I replied.
‘Do you ever think before you do something?' He sounded like he was slowly becoming very angry at me.
'Yes.' I frowned.
'Izabella, come back before you get hurt.'
'I can't. I'm meeting someone,' I began to jog again.
'Meeting someone? Who? All of our friends are here... Izabella, who?' His voice edged. There was no point in lying to him, I decided.
'The Traveller, Edgar.'
'What?' He asked in disbelief.
'He's a warlock. He said he could bring Adan back to life,' I said.
'And you believed him?!' I stopped at the amount of shock and anger in Sean's voice. 'Izzy, Adan's gone. And whether this guy can bring him back or not, he isn't going to. I know it hurts, I know you feel guilty. I know you want him back, but this guy isn't going to help you. Who's to say there aren't more of them with him right now?' His voice was softer, calmer but it had some urgency in it. I looked around. He was right. I hadn't really thought about anything. I just wanted Adan back so badly. 'We'll find a witch or warlock, Izabella. I'll even help you find a sorcerer or a wizard if I have to. One that we can trust, please come back. Or I'll come out to you.' He said. I looked down feeling my eyes tear up again.
'No, I'll come back.' I replied softly. I froze as I looked at my wrist. It was green, a dark, urgent green.
'Izzy? What's wrong?' I heard Sean.
"Backing out? I thought you trusted me, Mate." I almost cried out hearing Edgar behind me but before I could even turn around his hands grabbed my wrist.
'Izabella?!' I heard Sean's voice loudly in my head.
I could feel my skin heating up before his hands burst into flames on my wrist as he muttered a spell. I suddenly couldn't hear Sean anymore.
"Goodnight, Izabella." Edgar chuckled as my eyes drooped before my world blackened.
