Chapter 52
Elise POV:
We woke up early to head out. Not that I slept very much anyways. My mind kept going back to what I read in the journal. I’m having a hard time deciding what to believe. Do I take the chance and agree to me being this lost princess?
We’ve all been walking in silence for about two hours now. Everyone has been lost in thought. I start to wonder about what the seer may possibly say.
Am I behind everything that has been going on? Can things be reversed? I don’t want to be a faerie. I just want to be plain old me. Things here are getting more and more complicated as time goes on.
The more I think about things, the more I want things to be a dream. I can’t wait for the day I get to wake up in my own bed. I can’t wait to be in my own room, my own house. I can’t wait to see my family.
If only things would go by faster. If I could speed up time I would. I just want to get away from all this chaos. But then I’m reminded of Kyros as he takes hold of my hand.
I look up at him and he smiles at me. I feel like such an asshole for thinking about leaving him behind. He’s turned into someone completely different than when we first met. He’s been there for me every step of the way since.
It’s going to be hard leaving him but at the same time, I’m not a werewolf. I’m not his fated mate. He’s only attracted to me by a mysterious pull we feel towards one another. But deep down I know I don’t belong to him. Soon enough he’ll probably start to feel the pull disappearing. Soon enough he won’t want me.
Attraction doesn’t always last. I know he won’t end up loving me. And as much as I try to not let it bug me, I can’t deny that it hurts a bit.
What if he realizes that he doesn’t want me anymore before my time here is up? What if he gets the desire to be with someone else? I don’t know if I can stomach him being with another girl.
But can I choose to stay here? Can I just forget about my family back home? Can I start a new life here? I don’t know if I have it in me.
I get brought out of my thoughts as I hear Ezra’s name.
“Do you think he’ll try to follow us here,” asked Juliangelly.
“He’d be an idiot to try. She doesn’t want him around but yet he keeps showing up. Besides, he's got enough to worry about in Ravenloft, so I don’t understand why he keeps coming to see her,” says Ezekiel.
I notice that they are all looking at me. I didn’t tell them that he came last night. I shift my eyes down and bite my bottom lip.
“He came last night,” I finally told them.
“He what? And you didn’t say anything,” says Kyros. He pulls his hand out of mine. Everyone stops walking.
I don’t even know what to say. I didn’t think it was a big deal since he had been showing up a lot. But I’ve never talked to him without someone else around.
“Well,” says Kyros, eyeing me. His eyes darkened. He looks pissed.
“He just wanted to see me. I asked him to leave. He said one day I will realize that I was wrong and everything he said was right. He said he wouldn’t force me but if anything happens he’ll take me with him to Ravenloft. He also said something felt wrong but he didn’t know what,” I explained.
They all just looked at me, different expressions on their faces.
“Why didn’t you say anything last night,” asked Cassian. I shrugged. “That’s not an answer, Elise.”
“I didn’t think it was a big deal. He showed up, said his opinion and then left. He wasn’t threatening me and I decided to ignore what he said. If he had tried anything then I would have yelled for you guys. But he didn’t do anything. I wasn’t in the mood for a fight to break out again. Or for more yelling and arguing. I just wanted some peace and quiet. Once he left I came inside,” I tell them.
“Is that why you were seeking comfort,” asked Kyros. I nod my head.
“I was tired and I can’t stop the whirlwind of thoughts going through my head. If I could shut everything off then I would do it in a heartbeat. But I can’t,” I admit. I look down suddenly feeling an emptiness within me.
But as soon as I felt it, it immediately disappeared. I get a rush of peace and happiness jutting through my body. I snap my head back up.
“Don’t play with my emotions,” I snap at them.
