Chapter 29

Third person:

“You think you can easily hold me down like this.” His guttural voice speaks again as dark matter comes off his body, pushing against the barrier.

Evelyn struggles to hold him down as her own hands come in front of her, pushing the barrier down. Alex pins his body with his paws, his canines still on his neck, trying to hold him down.

But the dark energy gets too much for them as he flings himself up and Aries lands on his paws a few feet away. He bares his fangs at him as dark blood flows down his mouth, mixed with his own red blood. He snarls at him. A few other also shifts and surrounds him.

“You are mistaken if you think you are enough.” Gerald snarls but a loud growl stops him.

Aries walks out the rose garden with red blood trailing his steps, but his wounds were already healing. He held Althea’s tiny body high up in his arms, tightly, securely.

Althea blinked her eyes weakly to get a glimpse of his face. Even though it was masked with so much hatred, those dark eyes of his never failed to pull her in. Her heartbeat soft and quiet as he laid her head on his chest, it too was weak like the rest of her being.

But she felt warm and safe against his arms.

She remembered Evelyn’s words. Was this the end for her? This body?

But her heart and soul were on bliss for it had finally found what it was looking for. It had found its home.

She knew that this was where she was meant to be. A place she was searching for. A place where she truly belonged. Even though her body was in no condition to hold him back, her palm was placed on his chest, where his heart was drumming loudly.

Aries’ heart calmed for a second as he looked down at his weak mate whose face was bruised and painted in red. This added more fuel to the flames in his heart as he let out a murderous growl looking at Gerald.

An army of werewolf formed a barrier as Aries knelt on the ground and slowly placed her body on the ground. “Just wait a little longer for me, love.”

His black eyes soften for a while as he caressed her cheeks with the back of his hand. He looked at his warriors as he commanded them. Guard your Luna with your life.

Yes, Alpha. The voices boomed back as Aries left Althea to the safety of his pack. The werewolves surrounded her, their backs to her, shielding her from him. Aries lets out a warning growl as he sprints to Gerald, shifting mid-air.

Aries bites onto his shoulder as Gerald claw his chest. The battle continues as both try to win over the other, be it ripping their flesh off or biting their limbs, whatever they could hold, they would tear it.

They both stood panting, equally bloodied, flesh hanging off, blood pouring on the lush green ground, forming patches of red.

But they didn’t back down. With another growl from both of them, they lunged towards one another while Evelyn waited for a perfect chance. An opportunity to gather all her energy so she closed her eyes, as Alex and Matt stood guard. Alex lets out a low growl, warning Evelyn that they didn’t have much time. His eyes trailing the movements of the two in front of him the entire time.

Aries finds an opening and slashes deep on Gerald’s chest which makes him back off a couple of feet away. Dark blood splatters on the ground, making the ground even darker with his blood. He hisses back at Aries before he does the unthinkable.

In a blink of an eye, Gerald turns into a black smoke and disappears, only to stand inside the barrier formed by Aries’ werewolf warriors. It was too late when Aries notices what he was planning to do.

He turns around only to find him break through his best warriors. Gerald’s eyes held pure hatred as he growled loudly, taking everyone’s attention. Gasps and growls escape the pack members lips as they realised where he was, but they all realised it a little too late.

Gerald raises his arm up, his sharp claws curved ready to strike Althea who now laid defenseless, her eyes wide in shock. Her body was already weak with her wounds not healing from before and his earlier attacks. It couldn’t take any more damage. She was already in the brink of death itself.

But it was not like she could fight back anyways.

So, she closes her eyes ready to face death like she had prayed for, a few days ago. But this time, she didn’t welcome it. She wanted to live. She wanted to be here where he was. Where he lives.

She waited for the pain. The tearing of her flesh. For her to feel death. But she felt nothing.

She slowly opened her eyes to see a huge wolf on top of her body. Warm blood trickled down his chest and landed on Althea’s body, bathing her in red. When she turned her head with great difficultly, she saw what had happened.

It was Alex. He had protected her. He had taken the strike that was aimed at her. Gerald’s claws were deeply in Alex’s chest where his heart laid.

Gerald hissed at Alex, twisting his claws deep in his chest, eventually rupturing his heart. He growled in anger at being unable to kill the human. But Alex growled loudly, announcing the world that he meant what he said back then.

He was going to protect her. No matter what.

He couldn’t do it once, but he had a chance to protect this human now. The one that his goddess may possibly have sent for him to look after.

Maybe Althea had made him ready for this day. Out of everyone here, Alex was the fastest. Even Aries was no match for him. He may be stronger than Alex, but he wasn’t faster than him. And definitely not right now when he was bloodied and wounded.

Alex was trained by the goddess herself.

Despite his pain, Alex lunged for his neck once more. His grip on him, tighter than before. Gerald growled angrily in pain, but he too deepened his claws that were still on Alex’s chest, tearing his heart as more blood oozed out of the open wound on his chest. But Alex endured it because if he was to let him go, then Althea will be wide open. Defenseless.

A second later Aries’ wolf comes and bites Gerald’s side. Finally, Evelyn opens her green eyes which glows bright as she chants a spell in a foreign language. Her feet stepping closer as she does so. But Matt never leaves her side. He too follows her, guarding her.

Gerald’s body halts. He struggles to turn his head in Evelyn’s direction, hissing at her. The dark matter suddenly starts to come off him. What once used to shield him, forming a cloak around him, was now being sucked by Evelyn’s hands that was outstretched in front of her, calling out, pulling out the darkness in him. The devil that he had given his body to.

“No.”

His gruesome voice echoes the field as the word stretches long until no sounds come off his mouth. As the devil’s soul was now off his body, Gerald was once again the weak, sinner monster.

Evelyn holds the dark smoke that fight against her hold, but she was stronger than this devil who was without a host. She clenches her jaws and grits her teeth as she uses the last of her power to compress the darkness that was in her hands.

The wind howls and whips Evelyn’s hair back. A hot trail of blood flows down her nose as she finally screams out and the darkness disappears to where it once came from. To its own world where it was meant to be. Her weak body finally gives up and she falls forward. But Matt takes a step to her and holds her tiny body in his strong arms. He pulls her body up in his arms, holding her to him. She was safe.

Alex finally let’s go of his neck and Aries flings Gerald’s body further back to the ground. Alex now too weak to move, falls on the ground on his side. Red blood now forming a pool around him and a huge whole on his chest. His eyes were heavy as he blinked slightly to stay awake.

He heard his goddess’ call. She was waiting for his return.

Now that he was leaving this world, he thought about the question the human Althea had asked him in the woods. No. He was not where he belonged.

His goddess was wrong and so was he. He never really belonged in a world without his goddess. His place was always with her. And as his heart ceased to exist, he joined his goddess, to where he truly belonged.
