Chapter 58 Rai Uncle;
Chapter 58 Rai Uncle;
Meanwhile, at the waterfall grotto, the twins had completely sealed the dungeon door. Since the dungeons of the stone manor were carved entirely from rock, they were sure Liam couldn't escape. But their real fear was him shattering the steel door into pieces.
Rai stood right behind them, watching with a growl.
"How much time do you think we have left?" he asked.
Alex looked at the deep claw marks on Axel's chest with worried eyes.
"We have a lot of work to do, but I don't think we have much time, boss. Even one of his claws is enough to tear us apart right now," he grumbled.
Rai understood the severity of the situation. He had to act according to the worst-case scenario left to him.
"Alright, we have no guardian, no witch, no Alpha. There's only one thing left for us to do, children," he said.
Alex and Axel turned their gazes to him. The twins had always shown Rai great respect. No matter how much they acted playful, careless, or sarcastic, being part of this pack had always made them happy. And they had always served with great devotion.
Rai silently climbed up from the dungeon. The greatest advantage the waterfall grotto could provide them was this: long ago, this place had been built by Kael for Eva and the Rose women. A place where they could keep them safe if things went wrong. When this place was constructed, from the carved rocks to the massive craftsmanship of the stone manor that opened to the great window in the sky, Rai had been by Kael's side. That was why he knew everything about this place down to the finest detail.
He turned to Axel and Alex.
"There's a life out there, children," he said. "We may be people from two hundred years ago, but all of us risked everything for our kind. Years ago, we did everything to protect both the human race and the Börü race. Now there are families out there again. Children. Lives. And we cannot let one of our own brothers destroy those lives," he growled.
Axel was slowly beginning to understand what he was talking about.
"We're with you, old wolf. You don't need to explain anything to us," he said.
Alex nodded in agreement.
Rai took a deep breath and continued.
"Alright. There are three main stones holding up the manor. They were enchanted by the Rose witches and set in place. They are resistant to any kind of magic. But they cannot withstand physical force. They weren't designed for that. We're going to tie these three main stones with ropes. The rest depends on the mad wolf fire inside you."
Alex opened his eyes with curiosity.
"So we're going to collapse the entire stone manor on top of Liam? Is that what you're saying, Rai?" he asked.
Rai nodded.
"Even now your wolf ears can hear how the dungeon door is being bent out of shape. Soon Liam will be out. We have no other chance left to wait. We're out of time," he said.
Axel swallowed. They had always loved Liam. But Rai was telling the truth. He knew they had to be strong.
"Understood. How do we do this?" they asked, looking at him.
Rai pointed to the large steel ropes they had brought up from the dungeon.
"Each of us will climb to one of the foundation stones of the stone manor that reaches toward the sky. Once we're down, we'll tie the three ropes together and pull with all our might," he said.
Axel and Alex understood the plan. They nodded with devoted expressions.
And they sprang into action immediately.
Rai climbed through the interior of the manor up to the roof and reached the large central stone. The twins, more agile, climbed up the outside of the manor and reached the two large foundation stones. After successfully tying the ropes, they dropped themselves back down.
Moments later, the three of them stood together in front of the manor.
Rai looked at both of them.
"Are you ready?" he asked.
Axel and Alex simply nodded.
Then they heard a loud crash as the dungeon's steel door shattered. Liam was coming up fast.
"We're out of time, children. Now pull!" Rai shouted.
They all used every ounce of their strength to pull the great foundation stones of the stone manor. They struggled so much that after two centuries of sleep, their power had been reduced by nearly half. They awakened the wolf within each of them and transformed instantly. They hung onto the ropes with tremendous force.
But they were too late.
Liam stared at them from inside the stone manor with eyes burning like fire. Unconscious. Unseeing.
Knowing they had no other chance, they pulled one last time with all their remaining strength. The stone manor collapsed with a deafening roar, its foundation stones giving way together. A massive cloud of dust rose into the air inside the paradise garden of the waterfall grotto.
They had used almost all their power. Alex, Axel, and Rai lay on the ground in their human forms.
Rai lifted his head from within the dust cloud.
"Are you alright, children?" he asked. He wanted to make sure they were okay.
Alex, without getting up, raised his arm and gave an okay sign.
"I'm fine. I think I'm still alive," he said with a sarcastic tone.
Axel groaned, "I regret waking up. Just leave me here. I want to sleep for another three hundred years."
Rai was laughing at them. Just when they thought everything was over...
From within the slowly dissipating dust cloud, they noticed something.
Liam stood among the ruins, his eyes burning like fire, black veins spreading down from his neck, the wolf poison having completely consumed him. He stared at them.
Rai frowned. His teeth were clenched, his jaw cracking.
Axel, seeing this sight, shouted in fear, "Holy shit!"
Alex was truly scared for the first time. He was trying to figure out how to get both his twin and Rai out of there.
Rai tried to remain calm. He stood up and dusted himself off.
"Children, do not let him grab your necks under any circumstances," he said.
Then he looked around. He saw the oasis still stained with blood. What went through his mind pained him. The oasis, already defiled with the blood of Liam's brother, and now he was thinking of drowning Liam in it. But he pulled himself together and spoke in a calm voice.
"We have to drown him," he said.
Axel reacted in shock, his eyes wide.
"No, no, don't talk nonsense, old wolf. No!"
Alex added, "Look, I know the wolf poison has destroyed him. But he doesn't deserve to die so dishonorably. His brother was sacrificed in that oasis."
Rai's voice was calm but firm.
"There is nothing else we can use to defeat him right now, children. The three of us together aren't enough to stop him. The only thing we can do is drown him."
Alex knew about wolves' vulnerability to water. He also knew that if they could drag him there, they might have a chance. The moment he realized they had no choice, he gritted his teeth and growled, fixing his eyes on Liam as if making a vow.
"With my own hands, I will tear apart that filthy Demon King. Piece by piece. Before he dies, I will rip apart the body he borrowed from your brother. I'm sorry we have to do this to you," he said, looking into Liam's eyes.
Liam had long since crossed the threshold where he could hear or understand them. He seemed to be waiting only to tear them apart with pure rage.
Rai shouted, "Get to the oasis. I'll pull him to you."
Alex and Axel immediately moved toward the oasis.
Liam locked his eyes on Rai. He was desperate to destroy him. Rai remembered this young man's childhood. He had been the youngest and the novice of the pack. Years ago, he had jumped into Rai's lap as a small child, and they had roamed together. Now, after all that, they had come to this. His eyes filled with tears.
"Run, Liam. Run into your Uncle Rai's arms one last time," he said.
Liam took a deep breath. Completely under the poison's influence, his claws extended, he charged at Rai with the immense power the wolf poison had granted him.
As Liam approached, Rai made a swift move, leaped into the air, and transformed in mid-air, landing on him in his wolf form. Even though Liam was in human form, he managed to throw off Rai's wolf body. Despite taking a massive wound from Liam's claws, Rai used the last of his strength to drag him toward the oasis. Liam, wanting to finish the job, jumped into the oasis after him.
At that exact moment, the twins, having transformed into their wolf forms, grabbed both of Liam's arms with their massive jaws. Rai, despite his pain, lunged with his great wolf jaws to tear off Liam's head.
It seemed they were too late for everything...
