Chapter 54 Hunter Heir;

Chapter 54 Hunter Heir;
Meanwhile, the town doctor Lily had arrived home after a exhausting day. She unlocked the door, took off her shoes and tossed them into a corner. Then she removed her blue shirt. She was left in her jeans and bra. She dropped herself onto the big armchair in the living room and rested her head. She took a deep breath. Her chest rose up and slowly fell. The day's exhaustion had practically collapsed on top of her.

What was happening was a blessing for some, but for her it felt like a curse. She missed the town's old, stagnant state more. Because she thought that with the awakening of the wolves, the hunters and other ridiculous creatures had also awakened. She supposed she took after her mother a bit. While her father had always approached these legends with admiration, her mother had been a more realistic woman.

Just then, she felt a breeze pass under her bare feet. As if someone had walked up to the tips of her toes and approached her.

She didn't know what to do. If she opened her eyes, she would have exposed herself. So she kept them closed. Then the vase on the side table appeared in her mind's eye. Suddenly gathering her courage, she grabbed the vase as if she could see it and hurled it into the air.

At that exact moment, she felt a hand grab her wrist. Her heart was pounding as if it would leap out of her chest. When she opened her eyes, the person she saw was an old acquaintance. The vase slipped from her hand, fell to the floor, and shattered with a sharp sound.

"God! Henry, what are you doing?" Lily shouted.

A tall, sharp-featured, large-framed man was staring back at her.

"You're very careless," he grumbled.

Lily was angry. She sat up straight, covering her bare chest with her arm.

"What are you doing in my house? Why should I be careful in my own house? This is the only place I can feel safe, and you're breaking into this too. What is this? Why are you here?" she shouted.

Henry enjoyed her defiance. He slowly leaned toward her, moving closer to the armchair. As he approached, Lily backed away. Though she didn't show it, her eyes were fixed on this man who, despite the years, was still handsome.

Henry looked like a handsome man in his thirties. With his emerald green eyes, jet-black hair, and veined, muscular body, he had managed to raise Lily's pulse in an instant.

Lily swallowed.

"Move. I mean, go. Go over there. A little further. You're too close," she stammered. She had strung together the wrong words in her excitement.

Henry straightened up with an expression that showed he was enjoying her state.

"Put something on. We need to talk," he said and headed out to the backyard.

Lily grumbled, got up from the armchair, put her shirt back on, and buttoned it up. Then she hit her chest a few times. She still couldn't understand why her heart was racing like crazy for this man.

"Calm down, Lily. A lot of time has passed. He's a stranger now. You need to calm down," she told herself.

But her heart wouldn't listen.

A little while later, she went out to her backyard. Henry was sitting on the garden chair, one leg crossed over the other, his arms folded across his chest, just waiting. Lily sat down on the chair directly across from him, irritated.

"Why are you here? Why did you come?" she asked.

"First, hello to you too," said Henry.

Lily didn't even want to say hello. She just turned her head away.

"Why did you come back? You had disappeared from this town last time," she said.

Henry chuckled to himself with a roguish smile.

"Looks like you're still angry at me for leaving," he said.

Lily suddenly crossed her legs, trying to appear relaxed, waving her hands and tossing her hair back as she began to speak.

"No, why would I be angry? Why would I care? You just, when everything was fine, when life was completely normal, you suddenly wanted to leave this town and you left," she grumbled.

All the words had come out at once. After speaking with such anger, she faltered for a moment.

"Never mind, I'm sorry," she said.

Henry laughed at her silly state with a charismatic smile and placed his arms on the table. Then he fixed his gaze directly on Lily's eyes.

"You've realized that everything has begun, haven't you?" he said.

Upon hearing these words, Lily's body began to burn with anger. In that moment, it wasn't Lily who was reacting. It was the wolf blood inside her. It was that wolf pulse answering. Yes, everything has changed and I am here, it was saying.

Lily nodded, trying not to reveal the wildness inside her.

"Yes, the town's young people are experiencing something. Something has changed," she said.

Henry could tell from Lily's gaze that she had changed too.

"What about you, Lily?" he asked. "How much have you changed?"

Now it was Lily's human self, rather than the wolf inside her, that was more angry. She narrowed her eyes.

"Are you asking this as what, Henry? As my ex-boyfriend, or as a hunter?" she said. There was pure fire in her eyes as she gritted her teeth.

Henry averted his gaze. He didn't seem to want to answer this question.

"Protect yourself," he said. "I didn't come to your house today for no reason. Stay as close to that witch as possible."

Lily understood from the witch implication that he was talking about Eva.

"You mean the Rose witch? Are you talking about Eva Rose?" she said.

Henry cracked his jaw and nodded. It was clear he didn't like the words Rose and Witch together.

"What's coming is more dangerous than the wolves. And the safe place isn't here, isn't your home. You can only be safe near that witch. A lot of blood will be spilled, Lily. So please take care of yourself," he said, then stood up and headed for the exit.

Lily was in shock from what she had heard, but she gathered her courage and jumped to her feet.

"Henry, so are you going to be around now?" she asked.

"For now," said Henry in a cold tone, without even looking back. Then he closed the door and left.

Lily hadn't expected this man, whom she had been crazy in love with years ago, to show up like this out of nowhere. But she was aware that what he had just said was important. He was never wrong. Because Henry was an heir who carried ancient hunter blood in his veins...
