The Chattering Maids
Alison's POV:
As my eyes fluttered open, my face was filled with a mix of shock, surprise, confusion, and bewilderment. I looked around the strange room I found myself in, and I couldn't help but wonder if I had been kidnapped.
The air was heavy with the perfume of roses, a sweet and heady aroma that made my senses reel. I was intoxicated by the fresh air, and a delicate vase of fresh roses was placed on the ornate table beside the bed. But although the room was enchanting, it still couldn't calm my nerves.
“Where am I?” I thought to myself as I looked around, trying to figure out the event that had led to this unfamiliar room, but all my efforts were futile.
“Oh ma'am, you are awake!” I heard a sweet voice, and I quickly turned my face in the direction. Three beautiful women dressed as maids stood beside the bed, looking at me with shining teeth.
I was genuinely confused and curious, and I looked at my left hand, wondering if the snake bite had brought me to heaven because, to me, I was in heaven. If not heaven, why else would the maid care about me?
‘How can a woman sleep and suddenly wake up in a mansion? I am surely dead, and even in the afterlife, I have to work as a maid with these ladies.’ I said to myself and shook my head pitifully, thinking about how to address my supposed fellow maids.
On looking at my hand, I couldn't find the snake bite mark, it was like it never happened. Instead, different expensive and beautiful bangles were arranged around my wrist. My eyes widened at once, wondering what was happening, and the three maids didn't stop smiling at me.
I tried to stand up from the bed, but it was impossible. It was as if an invisible force was holding my hands to the bed. I looked at my attire and realized that I was dressed in a magnificent ball gown, and beautiful ornaments were used to decorate my body. I was so shocked that I had to bite my tongue, to be sure I was in my right sanity.
“We used a rose-scented perfume for your body, so you'd smell like fresh roses,” the nice-looking one among the maids informed me, but I was too shocked to reply to her. I kept looking at the outfit, wondering if I was daydreaming.
“This can't be true, I'm dead, the bear killed me!” I tried assuring myself like a psycho. “....my hopes of getting revenge have been destroyed!” I murmured, and as that reality sinked in, I felt like shit: hopeless and dirty.
“Hello Miss, are you alright? If this is about your old clothes, I'm sorry. The clothes were so dirty that I had to wash them before burning them. I couldn't even give it to the palace beggars because the clothes were like that of a wretched woman.” One of the maids who I later got to learn that her name was Mandy, informed me, giggling and silently mocking me.
“Huh?” I looked at Mandy with furrowed brows, wondering if the moon goddess was playing pranks on me.
‘She burnt my clothes? Oh my goodness! I have about four clothes in total, and one is gone!’ I cried out internally, and looked around searching for my bag, but I couldn't find it.
“Where am I? And where are my things?” I muttered, looking at the nice-looking lady among them.
“Oh, about that. My name is Sitonsia, I am an Omega werewolf, and I'm one of the palace maids. So for your bag, we have no idea where it is.” The nice-looking lady introduced herself to me and bowed politely. I wasn't interested in knowing her name, but the fact that she was a werewolf like me, calmed my nerves a little.
“Palace maid?” I arched my brows at her in surprise. “Wow, don't tell me the heavens also have maids! This is incredible!” I exclaimed and tried getting out of the bed again, only to discover that my right hand was handcuffed to the bed stand. I suddenly looked at the maids, wondering if they were kidnappers.
“No, you are not in heaven,” the last maid, Dido said, laughing at me hysterically. “You are in the Lycan Kingdom, a world for all supernatural creatures,” she explained with a smile on her face, trying to control her taunting laughter.
“The Lycan Kingdom?” I mumbled thoughtfully, staring at the space, suddenly a loud shrill escaped from my throat as the thought of being a prisoner to the lycans dropped in my head.
“Are you alright? Please don't be scared, no one will hurt you,” Sitonsia tried consoling me, moving closer to touch me, but I flinched at her touch. I was really scared, and I wondered if they would treat me the same way my parents, siblings, and former park members treated me. I couldn't help but wonder if they were going to reject me the same way my Alpha mate rejected me for my sister. Worst still, I wondered if the Lycan Kingdom was the right place to be.
“Please don't hurt me, please. I didn't mean to invade your kingdom!” I begged desperately, and involuntary tears began to drop out of my eyes. I tried to remove the handcuffs from my hand, but it was a mere futile struggle. My heart cried out for brother Peter, and I wished he was by my side, because with him, no one would ever hurt me.
“Oh, okay, she's indeed a psycho, we should get the king to tame her down,” Mandy suggested and quickly ran to hold me to the bed so that I wouldn't break the handcuffs.
“Don't talk like that. She is just scared,” Sitonsia scolded Mandy with a sweet voice, but her good intention was misinterpreted, and Mandy yelled at her aggressively.
“A low-life abandoned omega like you won't tell me what to do! So focus on your job, slave, while I am still acting nice.” Mandy said to Sitonsia with a ruthless demeanor, and Sitonsia’s eyes immediately dropped in shame.
“Ignore the fool, my dear,” Dido comforted Mandy, and they both hugged each other like couples. I saw the way Sitonsia looked intimidated, and it immediately reminded me of my life experiences. I pitied her at once, but I tried to shake it off.
“Sitonsia, how about you go and call the king since you are a good-for-nothing bitch.” Mandy said to Sitonsia with a menacing voice. And I couldn't help but wonder if the so-called king hadn't heard the noises the ladies were making, but little did I know that the room was soundproof.
“No, I think you should go, Mandy, that way, the king will reward you and not Sitonsia,” Dido quickly informed Mandy, with a mischievous smirk on her face.
“Humm, you are right. That makes sense, thank you very much, my love.” Mandy appreciated Dido, smiling like a little girl.
I looked at the two ladies and their tension, and without being told I knew something was going on between them secretly.
Mandy pecked Dido on her cheeks and happily ran out of the room. I couldn't help but wonder if I should feel scared that the king of the lycans was coming to see me.
