CHAPTER FIFTY-ONE

Elena's POV

I was completely chilled by the howl that cut through the night air. It was near too near. My chest tightened with panic as I glanced at Stefen.

"They're regrouping," I said in a shaky whisper.

I could see the fatigue in Stefen's eyes, but he remained tall. "We must return to the pack. Right now.

Leila moved next to us, still pouring blood from her previous wounds, her body stiff. "We're short on time. They will arrive.

Stepping forward, the silver wolf scanned the woodland with its bright eyes. It warned us of the impending danger with a low growl.

Panic swelling in my chest, I replied, "We have to move."

With a nod, Stefen transformed back into a wolf. "Remain near me, Elena. Tonight, nobody will be lost.

With a pounding heart, I followed them. The trees stood like motionless sentinels above us in the dark jungle. Every shadow seemed dangerous. It felt like the enemy was getting closer with each rustling leaf.

Sharp and urgent, Leila's voice reverberated in the mind-link. They move quickly. We must go more quickly.

How far away are they? With each stride my fear increased, I asked.

"Too close," she said in a somber tone. They will outrun us.

The night was suddenly broken by another howl, this one closer. My stomach sank with my heart.

"They've arrived!" I looked back and gasped.

Dark shapes with eyes that glowed with the same uncanny light as the renegade leader appeared out of the forest before I could respond. This time, there were too many of them to count.

Stefen snarled, tension surging through his muscles. "Prepare yourself!"

Leila transformed into a wolf and stood next to him. "We battle."

With quick and lethal movements, the figures charged at us. With their teeth and claws cutting through the black energy surrounding the intruders, Stefen and Leila confronted them head-on. The silver wolf entered the battle, fighting with lethal accuracy.

However, there were too many. Two seemed to appear for every one we took down.

I picked up a branch off the ground and swung it at a rogue who had approached too closely. He was scarcely slowed down when it struck. He extended his claws and lunged at me.

"Avoid her!" With a growl, Stefen struck the rogue, sending him to the ground.

I staggered back in terror, my heart racing. "We can't keep them away, Steve!"

He roared and slashed at another outlaw, saying, "We will." "We must."

As she struggled, Leila's voice was full of frustration. This cannot continue indefinitely. There are more people than us.

My thoughts were racing as I glanced around. A way out had to exist. We must be able to do something.

With a ferocious snarl, the silver wolf's luminous eyes focused on the assailants' leader. It sped up and sprang toward him, its teeth bared.

With a snarl, the renegade commander held out his hand. The silver wolf's strike was repelled by a wall of dark energy swirling around him. The wolf skidded back due to the force of the encounter.

Fear clenching in my chest, I murmured, "We're not going to win like this."

One of the figures suddenly sprang at me, his claws aimed for my throat. The silver wolf appeared, thwarting the attack with its enormous body before I could even respond.

The silver wolf's eyes shone brighter as the figure roared, and it sent the rogue falling into a tree with a single, strong blow.

"This has to stop!" I yelled as I swung the branch at another outlaw.

Stefen snarled and fought off two assaults at once, his body moving with deadly accuracy. "We'll. But we must have a strategy!

Leila jumped over a downed rogue and landed next to me. "We can't continue to hold this position. We must get back together with the pack.

With panic swelling in my chest, I uttered the words, "We'll never make it back in time." "They are too numerous!"

The silver wolf faced the remaining assailants, its eyes blazing with ferocity. The rogues hesitated for a moment, their self-assurance shattered by the wolf's strength.

"We must make a breakthrough," Stefen stated firmly. "We battle our way out and make our way to the pack."

Leila nodded, tension seething in her wolf form. "Let's get it done."

Another deep, eerie howl rang across the trees before anyone could move. My heart stopped beating.

"Now what?" I muttered, fear gripping me.

Other figures emerged from the darkness. Their bodies radiated the same dark energy, but with greater intensity because they were larger. The others weren't like these. They were more powerful.

Stefen's body tensed, and his eyes narrowed. "What on earth are they?"

Leila snarled in a terrified tone. They're not outlaws. These aren't like the others.

The main character advanced, his eyes gleaming with a dark, menacing strength. "Alpha, you believed you could avoid your fate? You believed you could keep your Luna safe?

With a roar, Stefen moved ahead of me. "You won't take her."

The figure gave a gloomy smile. "You have no other option."

Dark energy suddenly filled the air around us, making everything heavy. As I became aware of what was happening, my heart began to race. This was more than just an assault.

It was a trap.

"We must move immediately!" I grabbed Stefen's arm and yelled.

However, the dark energy rushed forward and collided with us like a tidal wave before we could respond. I was flung back, hitting the ground with my body. I felt a sharp pain, and everything briefly turned black.

"Elena!" Through the fog, I could hear Stefen's voice, his voice brimming with fear.

I had trouble sitting up, and my vision was fuzzy. The same unsettling light was shining in the eyes of the figures as they closed in on us.

Leila snarled, her voice desperate, "We're running out of time."

The silver wolf, with its body shimmering faintly with a silvery light, stood between us and the assailants. I sensed that it was waning. All of us were.

"We must leave this place," I whispered as I pushed myself to stand.

Stefen transformed back into a person, his body damaged and beaten. "We must have a plan before we depart."

The lead figure, however, moved forward and fixed me with his gaze before he could finish. "Luna, it is over. The prophecy will come to pass whether you like it or not.

I was overcome with fear, but I refused to back down. "You cannot take my child."

The dark, twisted creature grinned. "There is nothing you can do."
