Chapter 105 Right In Your Face

Chapter 105 Right In Your Face
NYRA

“You should rest ." Cryil voice was calm as she spoke.

I must've been dozing off because I jittered awake. I stole a quick look at the wall that had a grandfather's clock hanging and sighed at myself.

Looking at her still pale face that was now sound asleep. It felt like if I stepped out too soon, if I gave distance even for a moment, something would take it all back.

So I stayed longer. Just long enough to watch her breathing settle and enough to see her eyes flutter again, not in that terrifying stillness from before, but in rest…Actual rest.

Only then did I finally let go of her hand.

Even that felt wrong. My fingers lingered for a second longer than necessary before I forced myself to stand.

My legs felt heavier than they should have, like the tension I’d been holding finally decided to settle into my bones all at once.

“She’ll be alright,” Cyril said quietly behind me.

I nodded, though I didn’t fully trust my voice yet.

“I know.” I muttered.

Yet, in my mind I knew that knowing and believing were two different things. I took one last look at her before turning away and then I walked out.

The corridor felt colder than I remembered.
Or maybe it was just me. The moment the door shut behind me, the quiet stretched again but this time, it felt better.

My steps were slower now, not rushed like before nor frantic but at the same time not calm as well.

There was something sitting under my skin, something restless that hadn’t settled even after everything that just happened. Relief was there. But it wasn’t alone…Because now that Aria was awake and with that we could finally know what happened and who caused it.

My jaw tightened as I walked, my fingers curling slightly at my sides still with that name
“Samantha.” at the back of my mind.

The name alone was enough to stir something sharp in my chest again..I turned the corner without thinking and stopped.

“Speak of the devil.” I whispered to myself.

She was there. Standing halfway down the corridor like she had been there the whole time.

For a second, neither of us spoke. My eyes locked onto hers instantly and just like that, everything I had been holding back surged forward. It was my first time seeing her since the accident so it made it my first time to react as well.

“You failed.”

The words left my mouth before I could stop them.

Samantha didn’t flinch even after hearing though there was a look of shock and that flicker in the corner of her eyes that I couldn't miss…Annoyance, maybe.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she replied smoothly.

Her calm tone in all of this madness snapped something in me.

“Don’t,” I cut in, my voice dropping dangerously low as I took a step closer. “Don’t even try that.”

Her gaze sharpened slightly now, her posture straightening just enough to show she wasn’t backing down.

“You’re making accusations without proof again,” she said.

Again?

That word burned. My lips parted in disbelief before a bitter scoff escaped me.

“Proof?” I repeated. “You want proof?”

I took another step forward, closing the distance between us completely now. “Aria is alive.”

That got her, it was small …So small anyone else might have missed it. But I didn’t.

Her expression shifted for half a second to shock.

“You didn’t expect that, did you?” I pressed, my voice quieter now but far more dangerous.
“You thought she wouldn’t make it.”

“You’re crossing a line,” she said, her tone colder now.

“No,” I replied immediately. “You crossed it the moment you touched her.”

Her eyes darkened slightly at that. “I did nothing.”

The lie was bloody but well she was Samantha. I didn't expect that she'd say the truth right to my face either.

My hands clenched into fists at my sides.
“You were there,” I said. “You knew something was off. I know you are up to something…But killing a person, really?” I scoffed. " Are you that evil!”

“You say what you wanted to say,” she shot back. "I am not guilty till you have proof.”

I laughed once, short and sharp. “Is that what you’re going with?”

“You’re emotional,” she continued, her voice steady again. “You just woke up, you’re overwhelmed, and now you’re looking for someone to blame.”

The calmness in her voice only made it worse.
It felt like she was trying to reduce everything I knew into something small... Something dismissible.

My chest tightened at the thought that she was trying to manipulate all of this like she had done in the past.

“You really think I don’t know what I saw?” I asked, my voice dropping.

“I think you’re not thinking clearly.”

That did it. Before I could stop myself, I stepped forward again, too fast this time, my hand lifting instinctively.

I didn’t even fully register what I was about to do until…

“Nyra.”

The voice cut through everything…My movement stopped mid-air and I didn’t turn immediately even if I didn’t want to. But I knew that voice.

Of course I did. Who else would save his sweetheart amidst all of this , who other than the alpha himself —Rowan.

The tension in the corridor shifted instantly.
Samantha stepped back slightly not in fear, but in awareness that he was here.

I slowly lowered my hand, my jaw tightening as I finally turned more thought fueling my mind in jealousy. Pure as it could be.

He was already walking toward us. His expression was controlled as always but there was something under it this time.

Something harder to decipher or perhaps I knew what it was and was trying to lock it out of my mind.

“Step away, you two.” he said.

It wasn’t loud but it didn’t need to be. I didn’t move defying him. My gaze flickered back to Samantha for half a second before I finally took a step back.

Rowan stopped between us, his presence solid, unyielding.

“What’s going on?” he asked, though his eyes were already on me.

“She’s accusing me of something I didn’t do,” Samantha answered before I could speak.

I let out a breath, shaking my head. “Of course you’d say that.”

“Enough,” Rowan growled her eyes turning all red.

That one word was enough to cut through both of us..Silence fell again..He turned to me fully now, his gaze locking onto mine.

“This isn’t how you handle things,” he said.
I felt something twist in my chest.

“Then how?” I shot back. “By standing still? By waiting while she—”

“You don’t have proof,” he interrupted.

The same words again, and this time it stung because he was saying it in front of her.

My frustration surged instantly. “I don’t need proof to know—”

“Yes, you do,” he said, firmer this time.

The certainty in his voice only made it worse.
I let out a sharp breath, running a hand through my hair.

“She almost died,” I said, my voice breaking slightly despite everything. “And you’re still asking for proof?”

His expression didn’t change..But his gaze softened.just slightly.

“I know,” he said.

“No, you don’t,” I replied immediately.

“Nyra—”

“She’s awake, well …Now you know that!”

The words slipped out before I even realized I was saying them. Everything stopped at once as Rowan blinked once.

Samantha went completely still. For a moment, the corridor felt like it had frozen.

“What?” Rowan asked.

I swallowed, my chest still tight.

“Aria,” I said again, more clearly this time. “She’s awake.”

Rowan’s expression sharpened not with anger this time, but with something else entirely that felt closer to relief. Real, unguarded relief.

“When?” he asked a bit excitedly.

“Just now,” I replied. “She responded… she spoke.”

His jaw tightened slightly, like he was grounding himself.

“Is she stable?” He asked.

“Yes.”

That was all he needed. He turned slightly, already moving but then he paused, glancing back at Samantha briefly.

Something passed between them silently and yet unreadable. Then his gaze returned to me.

“We’ll deal with this later,” he said.

I knew exactly what he meant and I didn’t like it but I didn’t argue.

Not now.
