Epilogue (Amara and Damien)

Epilogue (Amara and Damien)
Amara's POV

I totally blamed myself for what I'd just witnessed. I should have known. It was school time, and the children were not home, except our one year old twin girls. But they were sleeping right now.

I should have seen this coming. It was an unspoken rule in this house never to go into Jamie and Carrie's room or office without knocking.

I'd taken the day off the restaurant. Well, because I was the boss and I could absolutely decide to.

I'd been so excited to share the pizza I made with my new recipe with Carrie that I went to their office to meet her. I didn't knock—a mistake I would regret forever.

I saw Jamie first. Sitting on his chair, eyes closed and head tossed back in pleasure. Wanton sounds that filled my skin with goosebumps was coming out from his mouth, and his right hand reached to grip something under the table.

That's when I took my gaze down, and I saw her legs. I didn't need to be Einstein to put the pieces together.

Worse? They didn't stop at all. Either they were not aware of my presence. Or maybe they were, but were just happy to traumatize me.

I rushed out quickly, and went to me and Damien's floor, and quickly entered our room.

'Damien!' I panic-sent him a mindlink, which he responded to immediately.

'Moonlight, are you okay?' He sounded genuinely worried, and if I was right, he was on already on his way here. He was busy at the training center, but when it came to me, he would drop everything and rush over.

'I'm not! I need to bleach my eyes.'

There was a short pause between us before he responded. 'Did you see... something you're not supposed to see?' The concern had lessened, and the hint of amusement in his voice now told me that he had an idea what I'd witnessed.

'Yes. And it wasn't funny. I need you over here now. Need something to replace that visual in my head.'

His laugh was rich and smooth, traveling through my spine in pleasant waves. 'Just say you want to use me for sex.'

I chuckled. 'That's a good idea actually.'

Damien was here in a few minutes, and I made him try the pizza before having sex with him. Thankfully, by the time we were done, I couldn't remember the Jamie and Carrie incident anymore.

After the kids were back from school, I indulged in one of my favorite part of the day—spending time with Daniel and the girls.

The twins had come into our room hours ago. Anaya was busy on her father's hair, while Raya was applying makeup on him.

"Mama, see!" Raya was so excited to show me the magic she'd done as she forced Damien to face me. They hadn't learnt to speak correctly yet, but here they were, terrorizing their father.

"This is all your fault, Moonlight," I giggled as Damien complained. They made him look like a clown. "She's only doing this on my face because she's imitating you."

"She might be a makeup artist one day," I shush him up. "Don't kill her talent."

When he continued to sulk, I walked over and placed a kiss on his lips. He tried to hold back his smile, but he his couldn't. Eventually, be gave up and burst into laughter.

That was the moment Daniel met. He opened the door and stood transfixed, while his eyes travelled from one person to another, full of judgement. He stopped at his father.

"Daddy, you look hideous."

Trust our son to say the first thing that comes to his mind. He'd always been so blunt, and would always be the first to speak the truth where others were afraid to.

"Hello to you too, son." Damien said sarcastically, even though his voice held undertones of mirth.

I turned to my boy, and he walked into my arms. I crouched to his level, letting his hands wrap around my neck. My lips tugged up. I could feel just how much he loved me simply from the hug. Even though he was blunt, he had such a big heart, and he never let a day go by where he does not tell me and his father and sisters how much he loved us.

When he pulled away from me, the twins rushed over and the three of them crashed to the ground together as they hugged each other. The sight touched the deepest part of my heart and warmed me all over.

Daniel remained on the floor for a while, his sisters tackling him until he nearly lost his voice from laughing.

"I think someone is forgetting me." Damien said, his voice coated with jealousy.

Daniel got up immediately, dropped his bag pack on the floor and went to his father on the bed. "I didn't forget you, Dad. Anaya and Raya didn't want to let me go."

Damien wrapped his hands around him, but he didn't look satisfied. "You had enough time to hug you mom and your sisters. It's unfair."

Daniel hugged him even tighter, his voice gentle. "I don't mean to. Mom was close to me and my sisters attacked me." When he pulled back, he searched Damien's eyes and held his gaze. "You know I love you, right?"

My heart swelled.

"Yes." Damien—the man-child— finally conceded. "I know you do. And I love you too. Very much."

When my mate thought that things were going his way now, our son had to ruin it. "But you look like a clown. Mom's lipstick should only be on Mom's lips, not yours. It's even in your eyes."

I couldn't hold back my laughter, seeing the look on Damien's face.

But as much as he liked to pretend that he was bothered by Anaya and Raya turning him into a clown, I knew that he loved every moment of it. They were times when he would go to their rooms and ask them to 'beautify' him.

"Alright," I said, clapping my hands once. "That’s enough chaos for today. Who’s hungry?"

The twins screamed in delight, clearly understanding only the 'hungry' part.

Daniel laughed. "Dad, I think your face scared them."

Damien shot him a look. "One more word, and I'm telling your sisters you called their artwork ugly."

Daniel gasped. "You wouldn't."

"Oh, I would," Damien replied calmly.

I laughed, before sending a mindlink to Jenny to help me take care of them.

As Jenny took them out, Damien caught my wrist and pulled me close. Up close, he really did look ridiculous — lipstick smudged across his cheek, glitter in his lashes — and still, I couldn’t stop smiling at him.

"You're enjoying this," he accused.

"I really am."

He sighed theatrically. "I'll never forgive you for letting them do this."

"You say that now," I teased, reaching for a wet wipe. "But tomorrow, you'll ask them again."

He grinned as I gently began to wipe his face. "Only because it makes them happy."

I was still wiping his face when my hand suddenly halted somewhere around his right cheek. My eyes found his the same time his lifted his gaze to look at me. It was as if we had the same thought at the same time.

We made it.

There was a time we thought our love was impossible, and trying would only lead to an inevitable heartbreak. But here we were, still thriving, still loving and needing each other as often as we needed breath.

His knuckles brushed over mine, and I closed my eyes, allowing myself to savour the sparks, the magic of love that we'd created.

We went against the goddess. We went against destiny. We went against what people thought, just to have all that we have now. And it was absolutely worth it.

Do I belong in second chances? Well, I was the exact right person to ask that question. Because when it showed itself to me, I took it greedily, and I ran with it.
