Chapter 262: Love story
Chapter 262: Love story
Adeline's POV
Lisa could not keep her mouth shut as I gave the three of them a tour of our pack house. I'd agreed, and was excited to bring them home for a mini vacation for five days.
In fact, she had been talking since Mario came to pick us up. Zara, Cindy and I nearly died of embarrassment when she began to gush about how handsome he was to his face. Mario was mostly amused, but he was professional enough not to fall for her bait.
When we reached the pack, the first man we saw was Beta Jamie.
"Oh, damn! Why do they all look like Greek gods around here?" She then leaned in to whisper. "Is he single?"
I rolled my eyes so hard, I was surprised it didn't get stuck. "If Carrie catches you ogling her mate, she's going to impale you."
"I swear, I will back Carrie up," Zara murmured behind me, tired of the shenanigans. While Cindy just stood somewhere, giggling.
As expected, Valerie welcomed them in and made them feel comfortable.
"This place is really big and beautiful," Cindy said after Valerie left us.
"That's an understatement," Lisa chimed. "We're talking old money here. Addie, can your family adopt me?"
I led the girls to my room through the elevator—another thing for Lisa to gush about. Later Muna came up to meet us, and she and Zara hugged and caught up with each other.
Later that day, we went out on a tour of the whole pack in my car. And I could not hold back my smile as they appreciated the nature around. They kept asking questions about people and places, which I was happy to provide the answers.
When we got back home, I checked my phone to see that Killian had left a text.
My Alpha: When are your friends going back to their houses? I want you here.
I chuckled. He could throw tantrums sometimes when he misses me. And I loved to revel in it.
Me: Relax, babe. This is just the first day. Four more to go.
My Alpha: I always knew that this was such a bad arrangement.
Me: Just say you miss me.
My Alpha: Of course, I miss you. I always miss you when you're not near. Thoughts of you mess with my day.
I caught my lower lip between my teeth to keep from smiling like a freaking idiot.
Me: Good.
My Alpha: Good? You're gonna have to pay for all the missed days.
Me: Not my fault you can't survive five minutes without me.
My Alpha: That's not funny.
Oh, it was very funny.
Me: Aww. My big, bad Alpha… needy?
The three girls were sprawled across my bed talking about some things they witnessed in the pack, but I had tunnel vision for my phone. Killian's reply came instantly.
My Alpha: Adeline.
I snorted. I knew I was about to get in trouble when he called my name like that.
Me: You typed that like you're grinding your teeth right now.
My Alpha: I am. And you're enjoying it too much.
I grinned.
Me: Correct.
There was a long pause before another message came through.
My Alpha: You're testing my patience, baby girl.
Me: What are you going to do? Kidnap me from my own house?
I might not have minded being kidnapped by him, but I didn't want to ruin the vacation with my friends.
My Alpha: Something worse. Depends on how much you tempt me.
I burst into laughter, earning confused glances from Cindy.
Me: You can do nothing now but talk, Killian.
My Alpha: Hmm?
Yeah, definitely in trouble.
Me: Go to bed, babe.
I could imagine his expression go from a deep frown to a full blown grin. He loves it when I call him 'babe'.
My Alpha: I can't sleep when your scent is gone.
Now tell me you miss me too.
I stretched dramatically on the bed, biting back a smile.
Me: Hmm… I don't know, Alpha. I don't think I miss you that much.
His response came so fast I was sure he didn't even blink.
My Alpha: Do you like being able to walk?
Me: ???
My Alpha: If you were here, I'd put you over my knee and spank that pretty ass of yours until it turns blood red for that.
My breath caught—just a little. But teasing him was too fun to stop.
Me: Guess you'll have to wait four more days. Try not to die.
As soon as the vacation was over and my friends had gone back, Killian came to pick me up. He wasn't too thrilled when I told him that they would like to do it again, but in his—our—pack.
I have not taken the position of the Luna yet. And he was not pushing me to in any way. Still, deep down, I knew that I was, and the people already saw me that way.
"Baby girl," he glanced my way, before turning his gaze back to the road. "Will you like to join my pack?" My heart skidded. "I understand that you're still attached to yours. Your whole life's memory and everything... If you don't want to..."
"Yes."
It took him about three seconds for that to register. Then he turned to me. "Yes?"
I nodded. "Yes."
He drove to a side and slowed to a halt. "Sure?" He asked that, but I could see the excitement dancing in his eyes.
I turned my whole body to him. "Yes, babe. I want to be part of your pack. Today. Right now if possible."
He raised a brow in surprise, obviously expecting more resistance. The truth was that I'd been thinking about it, and I'd been planning to bring it up soon.
"Adeline, please... I want you to think about this. I don't want you to make such a serious decision because you want to please me."
I rolled my eyes. "This isn't about you. I've thought about it before now. You're my mate and... I love you..." My face still got red whenever I admitted that. "I want to be anywhere you are. I want to go anywhere you go. I don't care if it's Crescent wolves or Nightshade. Hell, I don't care if it's our house at my college. I don't care at all. I just want to be with you. Home is wherever you are."
He took my hand in his, squeezing it for a short moment, before bringing it up to his lips. He remained like that, his eyes closing, as if he was trying to trap the moment inside his chest forever. "Now I can't wait to get home."
"Me too."
"Would you like a party?"
Killian likes to party during his free time, and I was no stranger to the activity as well. But for this initiation, I wanted it to be just us. Special, private and intimate. I wanted to absorb all the love he had to give, and give him mine as well.
I shook my head, smiling. “No party. Just you. Just us.”
Killian's fingers tightened around mine. His eyes softened in that way they only ever did for me — like I was the only thing in the world that could bring him to his knees without trying. The thought that I've actually done that made my smile even wider.
"I was hoping you'd say that," he murmured, placing one last kiss on my hand before putting the car back in drive.
The rest of the ride was quiet, but not in a heavy way. It was warm. Full. Like our bond was humming between us, filling every inch of the car. I couldn't stop that feeling in my chest that made it impossible for my smile to dim, and he kept glancing over like he needed to check that I was still there.
When we reached the pack house, he didn't wait for a second before pulling me into his arms. His mouth touched my temple, then my cheek, before he whispered, "Let's go home, baby girl."
Home.
"I'm already home," I whispered, and our eyes met in silent communication.
I could tell the exact moment my words reveberated in his head.
'Home is wherever you are.'
The building didn't matter. The place and time were irrelevant. As long as there was Killian, I was right where I was supposed to be.
Home.
He led me inside, fingers laced with mine like he was terrified I'd slip away. But I wasn't going anywhere. Not now. Not ever.
We entered his office, and he locked the door. My breath hitched when he brought out the ceremonial knife.
I was about to denounce my brother's pack, the only home I'd known all my life. But it was all worth it.
"Are you ready?" he asked, voice soft and endearing.
I stepped closer to him and placed my palms on his chest. "I've never been more sure of anything."
He cupped my face gently, brushing his thumb along my cheek. "Then let me do the honours, My Luna."
I stretched out my hand eagerly, and that was when I saw mischief dancing in his eyes. "Who said it must be from the wrist?"
I looked at him like he'd gone crazy. "That's the easiest and most rational place for blood mixing."
"Thank the Goddess that I'm anything but rational when it comes to you."
Next thing I knew, Killian had dropped the knife, and made me sit on the couch. My skirt rode up, and he knelt between my legs.
I was still processing what the hell he was doing when I felt the sharp sting on my right thigh. This was... I don't know, insane? Exhilarating? All I knew was that I felt something that quickly spread through me, awakening the feral part of me.
He bit my thigh!
He looked up and smiled at me. "You're gonna have to do the same. Then we mix."
Goddess, I should have known.
I shook my head, totally amused. "How are you even sure this would work?"
"The important thing is the blood mixing and the words."
If I bit his thigh like he did mine, the only way our blood would mix was... Rose tints crept to my face.
Next moment, the clothes dropped off my body, and Killian's followed. I ignored the erection in front of me when I sank my fang into his thigh and watch him lose some of his senses.
He made me lie on the couch, before climbing on it. It was a little too small to contain the both of us, but we didn't mind at all.
His hands brushed my hair lovingly, and his lips descended on mine. Sweet, sensual, passionate, like he wanted to savour every moment.
"I love you, Adeline," he murmured, kissing a path down my neck and under my throat, and all I could do was hold him tight.
"I love you too, Alpha."
I felt his smile as his lips closed around my right nipple. "Say the words, Mama."
I let out a loose breath. "I, Adeline Blackthorn..."
Crazy as it seemed, as I said the words and he accepted me, I felt a new kind of connection open between us, different from the mate bond. One that told me that I was now an official member of the Nightshade pack.
I felt those damn tears roll down my face, as Killian slid into me.
'Please tell me those are happy tears,' he said through our new mindlink, wiping the tears away with his thumb.
'The happiest.'
He kissed me slow and deep, like he could not get enough of me. Like he was sealing all the promises and bonds between us.
My heart pounded loudly at the realization that this was my life now. One where I would spend the rest of my life with my mate. My love. One where I didn't have to think about tomorrow, because everyday as it comes seems like a blessing. One where I was not afraid to love and let myself loose in it. Because as long as I was with Killian, everything was going to be okay.
My name is Adeline Blackthorn, and this is my love story.
