Chapter 256: Helen of Troy
Chapter 256: Helen of Troy
Killian's POV
I already knew Klaus could be petty if he wanted to be. But right now, he was driving me insane.
I didn't stop him from driving Adeline away because of the guilt I felt. But I regretted it immediately. Adeline would feel so helpless, and even hurt that I let Klaus take out of my pack when I could have given the order to stop it.
So I did the next best thing.
Not long after they crossed the border, I went to grab her phone, before going after them.
Adeline is my mate. But she was also the sister of an Alpha. So I intended to court her properly this time. No more hiding. She was mine. My Luna. And everyone should know that.
Even though I drove fast, Klaus already had a good head start, so I didn't meet them before they got to their pack.
And when I got to the border, I was not allowed entrance.
When I stepped out of the car, Gamma Damien came to meet me.
"Alpha," he bobbed his head, brows drawn together. "I'm sorry, but I can't let you in. Alpha Niklaus' orders."
"What the fuck?!" I have never felt more need to unleash a storm on an Alpha.
Gamma Damien sighed, looking like he would rather be anywhere but here. "The Alpha is pissed off right now. Give him some time and he will come around."
The only reason I wasn't causing chaos right now was because I knew that Adeline was safe. No matter how angry he was, he would never hurt her. If it ever comes to that, I wouldn't give a fuck about our friendship, or the fact that our packs are allies. Adeline first.
Even now, the fact that I knew she'd feel so suffocated and caged bothered me to no end.
"Let me speak to him," I pleaded. "Not to Adeline."
The Gamma shook his head. "I'm sorry, I don't think he wants you in the pack right now."
The fuck?!
Frustrated, I took out my phone from my pocket and called him. It rang, but the fucker didn't pick up.
I stared at the screen until it went black, then redialed. Straight to voicemail.
Again.
Again.
Each unanswered ring scraped my nerves raw. "Fucking bastard."
I used to enjoy the petty side of Klaus. Hell, I'd encouraged him. Because I'd never been at the receiving end. And now, he was playing with my sanity.
I snarled into the dead air, thumb hovering over the call button like I could force it through sheer will. My wolf clawed at me from my insides, desperate to meet his mate to make sure she's okay.
"Can you help me speak to Adeline then?" I asked the Gamma. "Through your mindlink. Let her know that I'm here."
I knew it was a waste of time to ask, but I just had to try. Although there was mutual respect between Gamma Damien and I, he would never defy his Alpha on my behalf.
And like I expected, he answered: "I'm sorry, Alpha. I can't do that."
"Fine. Can you help me talk to one of her siblings? Someone more rational?"
The Gamma stifled a laugh. "That I can do. But be aware that none of them are pleased about the situation."
"I know."
Twenty minutes later, I was standing with one of the twins— Dante, the one Adeline stole his car. The memory of that incident almost made me laugh, if not for the fact that I couldn't bring myself to find anything funny right now.
Dante wasn't like anything like Adeline had described. She said he was warm, friendly and easy to talk to. Right now, he was staring at me like his face was carved of stone, and his facial muscles was incapable of allowing a smile to happen.
"Alpha Killian," his hands were in his pocket, obviously not wanting to shake my hands. Thankfully, I didn't reach for one. "If you're here for my sister..."
I took her phone out of my pocket and handed it to him before he could complete his statement.
Then I straightened to my full height, every trace of softness in my face disappearing. I planned to talk to him, but I already had a feeling that it wouldn't go well.
Instead: "I understand that Adeline is your sister, and your concerns about our relationship. I understand your need to protect her." My gaze hardened. "But keep in mind that she is my fated mate and my future Luna. And unless she says otherwise, none of you can change it. And if I haven't made it clear, my mate deserves to be treated like she has an autonomy." He tried to say something then, but I spoke over him. "I will be back here tomorrow. Tell Klaus that this can either go two ways. We do this peacefully—the normal way. Or he go hard. Either way, I'd end up going home with Adeline. Unless SHE says otherwise.'"
Then I turned to walk to my car, shoulders tight with tension, anger simmering within me.
Just before I opened my car door, I turned to Dante again. "Tell her I will text her tonight."
Then I hopped into the car and drove off, leaving Dante and Damien staring at me.

Adeline's POV
After I was done talking to my siblings, Klaus ran off to meet his mate. I had no idea how Valerie was going to punish him, but I hoped she would go hard.
Finding out that Killian came after me, but Klaus sent him back made me want to throw him from the rooftop of the pack house down. Killian drove for hours for nothing. And Klaus thought it was worth it. He wanted to know how far Killian would go for me.
Like Valerie said, he was looking out for me. But he was so aggravating in the process.
I went to my room, doing the breathing exercise to help me calm down.
At least, the meeting wasn't in vain.
I was finally able to make them understand that their protection only made me feel so caged, and I wasn't happy to live like that.
Shortly after I entered my room, someone knocked. And when I opened it, I found Dante there.
"Hey." He leaned on my doorframe. "I met Killian."
My eyes widened. He did tell me that Killian was here earlier, but I had no idea they actually met.
"What did he say? Did he ask of me?"
He pulled out something from his pocket and gave it to me. "He wanted you to have your phone."
My heart dropped a bit lower. "Just that?"
Dante's lips curled up slightly. "Nah. He was really pissed. Oh, he even gave an ultimatum. Apparently, if we keep holding you, we might be going to a war that only you can stop." He tried to sound serious, but the moment he talked about 'war', he could not help being amused. "Helen of Troy kinda shii."
I was certain he noticed the moment that blush spread from my face and ears down to my neck. "I hate you."
"Don't hate me. You're the one sending us to war."
I rolled my eyes.
"For what it's worth, I'm happy that he is ready to go lengths to get you back." Dante said, suddenly sounding serious again. "This is your life, Addie. None of us have a right to deny you what you want."
My heart squeezed a bit, and my eyes stung. "Thank you. I wish Klaus and Marcel think the same."
"I promise you, they do. They are probably just struggling with the change."
"What change?"
He rolled his eyes. "You're going to move out of here, start a new life with someone else. We're not going to be responsible for you anymore. Sounds... strange. You were just our cute little sister not too long ago. Now you're talking of relationships and being Luna."
Now I smiled. "That's what happens when people grow up. And even though I will move out, you all will always be my family."
Dante walked in, until he was just in front of me. Then he pulled me to himself and placed a kiss on my forehead. When he pulled back, my eyes were moist.
"Don't tell me that when you become Luna, you will cry at every problem presented to you."
I shoved his chest, pushing him away. "Get out of my room."
He laughed, but he didn't resist.
When he was finally out of the room, I checked my phone, and my heart did that wild thing it always does in Killian's presence.
Alpha Killian: Baby girl, are you okay?
Me: Hi, I'm fine. Heard you were here earlier. I'm sorry they didn't let you see me.
Alpha Killian: I will come get you in the morning, okay? I'm truly sorry.
Me: You have nothing to be sorry about. It is my fault for making us keep our relationship a secret.
Alpha Killian: It's okay, Mama. Glad you're fine. I just miss you so much.
A warm rush spread through my chest, and my stomach swarmed with butterflies.
Me: I miss you too.
Alpha Killian: When next I see your phone, I don't want to see my name saved with my title. Sounds too formal.
I wondered where that came from. But it made me laugh.
Me: I'm sorry. My lazy ass always forget.
Alpha Killian: Do something about it. Tomorrow, everyone's going to know you're mine.
Me: It's about time.
Alpha Killian: Now get some sleep. I don't want you cranky tomorrow.
I chuckled.
Me: I never get cranky.
Alpha Killian: I wish that was true.
I sent a laughing emoji.
Me: Killian?
Alpha Killian: Yes, baby?
I buried my face in my pillow, blushing even though he could not see me. I've been wanting to tell him this for the longest time, but I've always been too shy.
Me: I love you.
He didn't respond immediately. And with each second he took, anxiety spiked.
What if my confession was too soon?
What if he didn't feel the same?
What if...
Alpha Killian: Say that to me tomorrow. I want to hear those words from your lips.
I dropped my phone beside me, staring at me ceiling, pretending that my heart was not drumming loud enough to wake up the whole pack up.
I'd confessed my feelings. And I didn't regret it. And tomorrow, I'd tell him to his face.
