Chapter 254: Monitored

Chapter 254: Monitored
Adeline's POV

Klaus didn't say a word to me, until I got to his car. When he looked at me again, he couldn't focus on my face, as he was busy scanning the shirt I was wearing. I'd appeared before him like this so that he would understand my stance, and that I was choosing to be with Killian. But now, it seemed like it was a bad idea, as he could not get his eyes off the shirt. He was so irritated, and he could not hide it.

When he turned away from me, he let out a heavy sigh. I recoiled, preparing myself for the scolding. But it never came. Instead, he did something worse.

He started the engine and drove off.

I panicked. "Where are you taking me?"

"Home. Where you belong."

"You can't!" I yelled at him. "This is my life. This is my decision. You can't force me to do anything I don't want to do."

His jaws clenched, but he sped up the car. "I can't force you, but I can talk sense into you. Away from here."

"I don't want you talking anything into me. He is my mate. What don't you understand?"

"What don't I understand?" He gaze me a look he'd never used one me before. "Do you know how crazy you look like now? Wearing his shirt, hair dishevelled, lying to me about being in school?" He exhaled heavily. "Fucking Goddess, you smell like him, and I can't stop wondering what the both of you had been doing for you to have his scent all over you."

"Why does it matter?" I snapped back. "I don't go around complaining that you smell like Valerie."

"Adeline, watch it!"

I drew in a breath, my eyes already prickling. He was driving me out of the pack.

"You all treat me like a child."

"You're behaving like one."

I bit back a sob. Of course, he would say that. It didn't matter if I was fighting for my right to make my own choices. All he saw was his little sister throwing tantrums.

I wiped the first tear from my eyes. "You are literally kidnapping me, but I'm the one behaving like a child."

"I'm saving you. You can't see it now because you're blinded."

That was how we continued to go back and forth, until he decided to ignore me. Even when I begged, even through my tears. I looked back several times, wondering if Killian was coming, but I didn't see him.

I even expected that he would order his men not to let us through, but he did nothing. As if I didn't mean much to him.

In about two hours, we finally got to the Crescent wolves pack. And the moment we got to the pack house, I jumped out of the car, not wanting to spend even a second in his presence.

Dante and Fredrick were by the door. They tried to say something to me, but I pushed through them and ran to the elevator. I might just be proving Klaus right when he said I was behaving like a child, but I didn't know what to do. I felt trapped and helpless. They were too protective, it was suffocating.

'If you do not get rid of that attitude, you might never get to leave this pack again.' I heard Klaus' warning in my head. And he could do it. He was the Alpha.

I ran straight to my room, slamming the door behind me before locking it. The echo vibrated through me like the final sound of my freedom breaking apart.

My breath came in ragged bursts as I leaned against the door. My fingers were trembling, but I refused to cry. He already thought I was a child, not in control of her emotions. I didn't want to prove him right.

But the moment I saw my reflection in the mirror, the tears betrayed me anyway. My eyes were red, my lips quivering, my hair a tangled mess, and Killian’s shirt hanging off my frame like a brand. Klaus had looked at it like it disgusted him.

I tugged at the collar, pressing the fabric to my nose. His scent was still there, warm, steadying me.

I sank to the floor, hugging my knees. Did he think I would be happy like this? After practically abducting and forcing me away from my mate. Hell, he didn't even let me get my phone.

A soft knock on the door made me jolt. I was about to scream at the person to go away, thinking it was one of my brothers. I didn't want to see any of their faces right now. But then, my wolf got a whiff of that scent. It was Valerie.

"Addie, can I come in?"

I got up from the floor and sat on the bed. At least, it would make me look less pathetic.

"Yes, sure." My voice sounded like a total joke.

Valerie entered, and the moment she saw me, her gaze softened. She crossed the room and came to the bed, hugging me.

"I'm so sorry."

I could not help it. I burst into tears, and she held me, allowing me to cry on her until I was satisfied.

"Do you want to talk?" She then asked, and my gaze narrowed at her suspiciously.

"You're his mate." I wondered if she was the one that told him I had a mate and he decided to find out who.

"Of course, I am, but I'm not in support of this." She sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "I thought he was just going to talk to Killian, I had no idea he will be forcing you back here. So he's in trouble with me right now."

That seemed to make me smile. "Deal with him."

"Trust me on that."

We shared a small laugh, before I decided to talk. "I know that I did wrong by lying about my whereabouts, but I know they won't support it. I planned to tell them when I was done with school. Maybe they might finally begin to see me as a grown up, capable of making her own decisions."

She placed her hand on mine and squeezed it. "Klaus might have overreacted. In fact, they are all overreacting, and I basically stopped them all from barging into Killian's pack like some lunatics."

My brows raised. "They all wanted to come?"

"Even Marcel was ready to leave his pack just to make a statement. Solana held him back."

That would have been so embarrassing.

"The thing is that, they are all worried about you."

"They need to stop worrying."

"And they also feel betrayed. You know? They've been waiting for you to come clean about your relationship, but you didn't. It looked suspicious the way you kept hiding it."

Wait, what? "You all have known?"

She rolled her eyes. "We are even aware of the house you go every weekend."

My face flamed so red, I wanted to bury myself.

"I'm being watched?"

She shook her head. "You're guarded."

Guarded? Ridiculous.

"How come I don't see the guards?"

"Because they are strategic."

Absolutely ridiculous. Klaus had wanted to send bodyguards to me at a time, but I refused the idea as any normal person would. I had no idea that he went ahead anyway. "So they report my every move to Klaus?"

She shook her head. "No. Only when they think you're in danger."

"I don't like this."

Valerie nodded. "I understand. I will not like it too. But they can't let any harm come to you again." I already knew where this was heading to. "Remember how Ronald's men kidnapped you from school?"

The memory made me shiver. He wanted to use me as a bargaining chip during the Alpha duel. But the men hurt me and even stripped me naked.

"Klaus blamed himself so much. So he couldn't let that happen again. That's why you have guards, and not to monitor you."

"But they did monitor me."

She shrugged. "Well, it was concerning. Killian, an Alpha, met you at a night club and took you to a hotel room. Anything could have happened."

Shit! They even knew about our club meeting.

"I will talk to your brothers and put some sense in their heads. Just rest until you are ready to come down, okay?"

I nodded. "Thank you."

"And for their sanity, change this shirt."

That made me chuckle. "Okay."

She stood up from the bed and reached for the door. Just before she opened it, she turned to me. "In case you need to learn one or two about being Luna, I'm your person." She then winked at me and walked out.

And just like that, I was smiling again.
