Chapter 99

Chapter 99
Trevor's POV

The Chamber roared with light the moment Evelyn screamed again. I held her tighter, her back pressed against my chest, her fingers locked around mine. The runes around us pulsed like a heartbeat, silver spiraling into gold, responding to every breath she took.

She was shaking.
Breathing in sharp bursts.
Fighting pain and magic at the same time.

But she was still here.
Still in my arms.
Still fighting for our children.

And I had never been more terrified in my life.

“Evelyn,” I whispered against her temple, “I’m with you. I’m not letting go.”

She nodded, jaw clenched as another contraction rolled through her. She didn’t scream this time, she breathed through it, face buried in my shoulder, tears streaking down her cheeks. Strong. Unbreakable. Mine.

The ground trembled beneath us again as something inside her shifted.

“Trevor,” she gasped, “he’s—he’s coming. The first one—he’s—”

My chest tightened. “Then we bring him safely. You hear me? We bring him gently. Follow the wave. I’m right here.”

Jason and Rowan stood guard, weapons drawn, watching the shadow pacing at the edge of the Chamber like a silent witness to a sacred storm.

But I ignored it.
My entire world was Evelyn.

Another contraction hit, the strongest yet and she cried out, her hands gripping mine so tightly I could barely feel my fingers. I held her through it, whispering steady, low words against her ear.

“You’re doing incredible. You’re safe. He’s safe. Just breathe.”

She trembled, panting, forehead pressed to my jaw. Sweat dampened her hairline. Her body leaned fully into mine, trusting me with her weight.

“Trevor… I can feel his head,” she whispered, voice shaking. “I can feel—he’s almost—”

“I’ve got you,” I breathed. “Let him come. Let him follow you.”

The Chamber pulsed.

The runes brightened.

And then... a small cry

My breath caught.

Jason sucked in air. Rowan’s jaw clenched. Even the shadow leaned forward.

But all I saw was Evelyn, shoulders slumping with relief, her body melting back against mine as she let out a sob that shattered something inside me.

“He’s here,” she whispered, crying.

I reached forward, hands trembling, and caught him as his small body slid into the world; tiny, warm, wailing strong enough to shake the runes beneath us. A boy. Our son. A perfect storm of life and power.

His skin shimmered faintly with the last traces of the Chamber’s magic, fading quickly as I wrapped him in my shirt and pressed him gently against Evelyn’s chest.

Her hands rose, shaking, cupping him. “Trevor… look at him.”

“I am,” I whispered, voice breaking. “Gods, Evelyn… he’s perfect.”

She laughed a broken, joyful sound, kissing his forehead. “He’s strong…”

A glow flickered around the Chamber.

The shadow’s voice drifted through the air.

“The Child of Chaos is born.”

I growled softly, tightening my hold around both of them. “He’s our son. That is all he is.”

The shadow bowed its head. “Then he will be more powerful for it.”

I ignored him. Evelyn was already breathing differently, bracing. Preparing. Trembling.

Because it wasn’t over.

Not yet.

She sucked in a sharp breath, clutching my arm. “Trevor… she’s coming. The second one.”

I pressed a shaky kiss to her hair, holding both her and the baby. “Okay. Okay. One more. You’re strong. You can do this. I’ve got you. We’ve got you.”

Rowan stepped closer. “The runes are changing again.”

I didn’t care.

All that mattered was Evelyn.

Another contraction hit, harder than before, and she cried out, clinging to me, body tightening around the pain.

“Trevor—!”

“I’m here!” My voice cracked. “Don’t hold it in. Let her come. Let her follow her brother.”

The Chamber pulsed again but softer this time. Calmer.

Balanced.

Evelyn leaned forward into my arms, her cries muffling into my shoulder, her entire body trembling with effort. I held her, whispering steady encouragements against her neck.

“You’re almost there… almost there, sweetheart… she’s close… you’re doing so damn good…”

And then... A second cry.

Higher. Softer.
Like bells.

Evelyn sobbed, collapsing back into me as I brought our daughter into the world warm, small, perfect, glowing faintly with soft gold light.

A girl.
The Child of Balance.

I placed her gently onto Evelyn’s chest beside her brother. Evelyn cradled them both, tears streaming down her cheeks, murmuring soft, broken prayers.

Trevor. The twins. The family she thought she’d never have.

“You did it,” I whispered against her cheek, kissing her softly, tenderly. “Evelyn… you did it.”

She laughed through tears. “We did it.”

The Chamber around us began to dim, the runes fading as though the place itself was exhaling, satisfied with the ending of its ancient cycle.

The shadow stepped back, bowing deeply.

“The cycle is complete. Chaos and Balance, born in harmony.”

Trevor snarled. “You don’t get to name their purpose.”

“I do not,” the shadow said gently. “The mother already chose it.”

Evelyn lifted her head, exhausted but fierce. “They come into this world loved. That’s their purpose.”

The shadow lowered its head again  then dissolved into mist.

The Gate behind us brightened, stable once more.

Rowan stepped toward us. “It’s time to go.”

Trevor slid his arms beneath Evelyn, lifting her and both babies gently into his hold. She rested her head on my shoulder, still trembling from effort.

“I’ve got you,” I whispered, kissing her forehead. “All of you.”

She exhaled, soft and content. “Trevor…”

“Yes, my love?”

“We’re a family.”

My throat tightened. “We always were.”

The Gate opened in a soft rush of silver light, wrapping us in warmth as we stepped through out of the Chamber, out of prophecy, out of cycles and ancient judgment.

Into our life.

Into the future we chose ourselves.
