Chapter 77 77
Roman's Pov
When I arrived at my hotel room, I loosened my tie and threw it on the bed.
“Fuck!” I screamed into the air, my fists clenching and unclenching. I should've murdered that bastard where he stood.
I remembered his closing remark vividly and the way he stared at me. That man had no remorse, no shred of humanity in him. Putting price tags on a technology that wasn't even his idea? I should have him hanged. Maisie would be so pissed. No one expected this to happen. This was the first ever loophole in our plan and my plans never had loopholes. Never saw a reason to.
I let out another curse and rammed my fist into the fucking wall. It managed to quell my anger but not enough.
My phone buzzed in my pocket and I nearly snapped it in half. Not until I saw who was calling.
My heart rate picked up and my cheeks heated. This woman had no idea how much effect she had on me.
I answered and put it on speaker. “Darling.”
“Roman,” her voice filled the air. I became possessive and removed it from the speaker. No one apart from me had the right to hear her sweet, angelic voice. “I thought you'd be here.”
Damn. I completely forgot to tell her myself about the impromptu meeting.
“I'm sorry. Cole must've told —”
She cut me off. “He did.”
Her breathing filled the speakers andI knew she must be so upset.
“Are you upset?” I asked carefully.
“What do you think?” She shot back.
The minute she answered, I smiled. Just the sound of her voice eased the disappointment of tonight’s meeting.
“I promise to make it up to you.” I sank in my bed.
“Nope. I hate you.” She said playfully.
“Has no one ever taught you that words can be hurtful?” I feigned offense.
“Didn’t really have the best role models growing up, so no,” she shot back, and I almost apologized, but she was quick to speak again. “So what happened during your meeting? Cole said you left for one.”
I remembered the meeting and my jaw clenched.
“Hardly impressive. I had to —”
“meet that asshole, Xavier?” she interrupted. “Did he recognize you?”
“No.”
“Good. Anything else?”
“He put a price tag on the wristbands. $400.” I announced.
“What? We never discussed that.” She snapped.
“Apparently, he didn't care and made the decision all by himself.” I sighed.
“That retard!” She cursed then swallowed a wince.
I leapt to my feet. “Darling, are you alright?”
She stifled another wince and a few voices filled the phone. It was probably Clyde and Emma.
After a few seconds of “hold the phone” and “tape the wound”, Maisie took control of the phone again.
“Sorry. The scratch from earlier still hurts. Hannah's got sharp claws.” She chuckled shortly. I didn't laugh with her. Rather, I wanted to bring Hannah back to life and kill her again for causing my mate pain.
“It's fine, babe. The wound will heal soon. Besides, I did a little digging. Hannah's kids are not in our pack and are currently staying with an aunt. No one is a threat. At least not for now.”
A sigh of relief escaped me. “I'm glad.”
“If you're glad, you should be here with me.” I could almost imagine her pouting her lips.
I chuckled. “You’ll see me soon.”
“Ugh!” She scoffed.
“Ouch. You know you can hang up if you hate talking to me that much.”
“One, I love talking no matter who it is. Two, you need to stop overthinking and get your ass over here. We'll think of another way of getting back at Xavier.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah. Your Gamma gave me a call and said a certain wolf was cursing at the walls ever since he arrived at his hotel so I assumed it was you, grumpy pants.”
Even though she was taking a dig at me, it put a smile on my face.
“So you don’t want to be with me?” she mumbled.
“No, of course not. I want to be with you.”
“Then get over here.” she urges. “The love of your life misses you.”
My lips curled into a grin. “Love of my life, eh?”
There was a pause. “Give or take.”
“Okay.” I gave in. “You’ll see me soon.”
“Yay!” She chuckled with glee. The excitement was clear in her voice, and it was sweet that she missed me and wanted to be with me.
I typed a text on my other phone to my Gamma to have my things arranged and picked up my coat.
“Frankly, I thought you'd say no and turn me down.” Maisie said with a smile in her voice.
I shook my head, smiling. “Maisie, when are you going to learn that I’m incapable of saying no to you?”
I didn't bother taking my car. I shifted into my wolf form. Besides, it was faster and I hadn't raced this long in my wolf form before.
I jumped noiselessly over the pack gate and breezed up the stairs till I got to the suite.
I managed to hide in a corner where I shifted back into my human form and slipped into the clothes I'd taken with me.
When I reached for the doorknob, it swung open on its own.
“Right on time.” Emma flashed me a grin and pulled me into the room.
She didn’t let go of my arm as we made our way into the large suite.
When Maisie finally appeared in the hall, I couldn’t help but smile.
“You’re here.” She ran towards me and tiptoed to wrap her arms around my neck. I stumbled backwards for a moment but caught myself just in time so we both wouldn't lose our footing.
“I missed you so much,” She whispered into my neck, squeezing me tightly.
With a deep, rumbling sigh, I slid my arms around her waist and lifted her off my feet.
“I missed you too.” I said, not letting her go. I never want to.
