Chapter 46 46
Xavier's Pov
It’d been two days since Chloe and I spoke.
Two days of unrelenting hell where everything reminded me of her. The flowery perfume she always wore, every brunette I come across. Even her fucking fiance reminded me of her. It was enough to make me want to lock myself in a dark concrete box and never come out.
I couldn't concentrate in the office so I took the rest of the day off. I'm the CEO. Sue me.
I didn't want to be bothered by Kylie or Howard so I holed myself up in my office. It was on the same floor as our suite so I could easily access it or hide in there. Kylie was forbidden from entering my office. It happened when she thought walking naked would impress me. Trust me, it didn't. I banned her for life.
The sound of a car engine pulled me out of my pathetic self-pity and drew my attention to the window.
I walked to the glass window overlooking the entrance of the pack mansion. There was a car there.
My heart nearly stopped when the passenger side opened.
Brown curls. Brown eyes. Warm smile.
Chloe.
I felt it again. The impossible, undeniable feeling that had haunted me for weeks. It roared through my veins, pulling me towards Chloe like she was the center of my world. And damn it, I wasn't going to fight it anymore.
My eyes locked on her from across the space.
Chloe.
Jason whispered something in her ear and she threw her head back with a smile. Her laugh floated in the wind, kissing my skin like a gentle caress. I had watched her interact with Jason in the pack. I'd seen the way their little flirtations made something ugly twist in my gut. I hated it. I hated it because I wanted her and no one else.
The moment I stepped forward, the pull intensified. It felt like the universe was pushing me into her orbit. I needed her.
I tightened my fist against the glass, wanting to punch it and jump through. I would've gone through the plan if Rayes had not interrupted me.
“Sir, you have a call from Clyde Monroe. I'm holding it in Line 2.” He said.
A litany of curses of curses escaped me as I walked past him.
“Sir, are you okay?” Rayes asked.
“I'm fine!” I bit out. “I'll be done in a moment. Leave!”
He bowed his head before turning to leave.
The second I heard his footsteps, I sank into the couch and sighed. Fuck this.
I picked up the telephone and placed it to my ears. “Good morning.”
“I believe it's a bit late for that.” Clyde replied like the cold bastard he was.
I looked at the grandfather clock in the corner and pinched the skin between my eyes. The time was past 7pm.
“Oh.. I'm sorry.” I sighed. “Wasn't looking at the time.”
“It's alright. Shall we begin?”
Clyde gave me a debrief of Healer and its work in progress. Frankly, I didn't hear a word he said because my mind kept drifting to a pair of long legs, high cheekbones, rich porcelain skin, and brown eyes that gleamed with intelligence.
It was the way she moved, with a natural grace that couldn’t be taught; it was the way she laughed, so whole-heartedly and joyously that it could chase away the darkest shadows. And it was the way she glowed. She was born to be perfect. She was born to be mine.
I imagined that night I met her. She wore Jason's clothes and even though they were big on her, they suited her. In that moment, I imagined her wearing my clothes, calling me nicknames she gave Jason, like babe or honey, hearing her call my name while I fuck her and make her know she really belongs to.
“Fuck!” The curse escaped me in a loud hiss.
“Excuse me?”
I froze when I heard Clyde's voice. I'd forgotten I was on a call with him.
“Listen, can I call you back? I have to deal with something real quick.” I said, rising to my feet.
“Sure.”
I hung up and slammed the telephone down.
I needed to see Chloe. Now.
I asked everyone I saw if they'd seen her and they shook their heads. Idiots. All of them.
I decided to check out her suite. Bold move but I didn't care. She needed to understand that me staying from her was pure torture.
I lifted my fist and rapped it against the door.
“Who's there?” Chloe answered. Thank heavens.
“Alpha Xavier.” I replied.
“One sec!” She called out.
I waited for the door to open and my throat dried. She looked…
“Hey,” she smiled and I wanted her to do it again.
“Hi,” I smiled back. I looked behind her before turning my gaze to meet hers. “Is Jason in?”
She paused for a second before she finally looked at me. “No.”
“I want to come in.” I wanted to.
“Sure.” She took a step back, opening the door fully.
I entered the room and waited. The second she closed the door, I reached for her.
“I've been patient but patients have their limits, darling.” I began, my gaze never leaving hers.
Her brows furrowed. “What?”
“Chloe,” I brushed my fingers against hers, feeling a wild spark. Her skin warmed under my touch and I smiled. This wasn't just any attraction. Chloe was my mate.
“I intend to court you properly, Chloe.” I linked my fingers with hers. “Not in secret. I want to claim you. Publicly.”
I saw it then. The flicker of shock crossed her face. Of course, she would be terrified but I would be more terrified if I didn't have her.
I held her hand possessively. This was no game. I wanted her and I was going to make sure everyone else knew it.
“Xavier…” she whispered my name and I went feral.
I rested my forehead against hers, fighting for control over my own body. Despite my goal to have her, I didn't want to scare her. I wanted her to accept it too on her own. And that was undeniable.
“Xavier…” Chloe breathed. I expected her to pull away but she didn't.
“No one else will have you. Not Jason. Not anyone. You're mine.” My voice had dropped to a growl.
Chloe pulled back and I stared at her. In her eyes, I saw it. I saw… acceptance, confusion, desire. I took her hand fully and placed it on my chest so she could feel the steady beat of my heart
“You want me too?” I asked, letting the depth of my question echo in every syllable.
Chloe didn't need to speak. I felt it. She was certain. She wanted me too.
I leaned in, my face so close to hers. “Please, kiss me.”
She shook her head. “Not here. I can't. Not with Jason in the pack.”
“Not here?” I repeated softly.
“No.” She shook her head again.
I caught a flicker of a smile on her lips as she stood on her tiptoes and pecked me on my cheek.
Without another word, I enveloped her in my arms, breathing her in and not wanting to let go. Chloe was mine. It was clear now. I would claim her as mine and anyone who thinks they can challenge that, would soon learn the meaning of the word Xavier.
