Chapter 106 106
Maisie's pov
Xavier stood like a statue in the middle of the conference room, his jaw loose and eyes wide, staring at me like the universe had played a trick on him.
Every eye in the room, from the board members to the employees and even Kylie, was on him. The silence in the room was so intense, it could only be broken by the faint whirring of the air conditioner.
Finally, one of the senior board members, her patience obviously exhausted, spoke, her voice sharp and glacial, “Alpha Xavier, your services are no longer needed. It's time you actually step away from this company. Your reckless decision making, as well as Ms. Kylie's, have cost this company enough already. We cannot afford to tolerate it any longer.”
My chest rose and fell with each passing second and I watched as Xavier's face drained of its colour. He opened his mouth to argue but nothing came out. The board members exchanged quiet, significant nods, their decision clearly made. They would not listen to him.
"Please," another member added in a stern voice, "gather your belongings and leave. The company cannot run on your terms any longer."
Kylie's face went ashen, her usual overbearing arrogance replaced with sheer bewilderment. She stammered, "Wait, what? You can't-"
"Enough," the first board member declared decisively, cutting her off. "It's done."
Xavier's legs trembled as he slowly turned around, the burden of humiliation crushing him. I could see the burning mixture of rage, shame, and disbelief churning in his expression. He had never seemed so small, so vulnerable, so… ordinary.
As they escorted him and Kylie away, the tension in the room subsided.
I glanced at Elder Marcus standing at the side of the room. He had never liked me, particularly when I was married to Xavier, and I always felt his presence as a cold shadow. But as he met my gaze, his expression softened.
"Maisie," he said in a low voice, "I believe... You're going to do a great job."
I blinked, surprised, "Thank you Elder Marcus, you have nothing to worry about. This company will be in good hands now."
He nodded slowly, almost reluctantly, but his eyes held a glimmer of pride. I sensed the quiet shame of the other pack elders; they had stood there and watched Xavier's spectacular failure, and not one of them had anything to say. Silently, they turned and filed out of the office.
I let out a long breath and looked around the office. MG Global was always my dream, my world and now it was mine once again. A triumphant grin spread across my face. "Finally... I have it."
Clyde, Emma, Elma and Roman rushed forward, their faces a picture of relief and pride.
"Congratulations," Clyde said, grinning softly.
"We have a lot to do," Emma added, determination shining brightly in her eyes, "we will review the papers again to decide how best to bring the company back from the brink of destruction."
"Thank you," I said, my voice steady and strong, "I appreciate that."
They all left the room and Roman and I were alone. I walked over to the window and stared out at the city. It seemed so alive and full of potential, the sun glinting off the glass towers, and for the first time in years I felt like I was in control of my own destiny.
Suddenly I felt a warmth behind me and Roman slid his arms around my waist. He hugged me from behind, his presence a comforting weight against my back.
"How do you feel?" he asked softly, his voice near my ear.
I placed my hands over his. "Good, but... Truthfully none of this would have happened if Xavier hadn't abandoned me and our daughter, if he'd been there for me when I needed him." My voice cracked slightly as I spoke.
Roman squeezed me tighter. "It's okay. It's in the past. You've moved on, and that's what counts."
I turned in his arms, and gently caressed his face with my hands. "Thank you... For always being there, Roman. Even when I pushed you away, even when I was afraid... You never left."
He gazed at me, his eyes darkened with emotion, "I never will."
I swallowed. "I... I love that you've been here. I'm… glad I can finally trust somebody completely."
Roman's gaze intensified and he softly cupped my face with his hands, "Maisie... I love you."
The world seemed to still. I cupped his face with my own two hands, and felt the warmth of his love and support, "I love you too."
Back at the mansion, the celebration was in full swing. Clyde and Emma greeted us with champagne, and Alpha Shakana along with his brothers were all cheering us on. Respect for myself, Roman, and the team hung in the air like electricity.
In the midst of all the congratulations, I saw Emma and Cole Anderson, Roman's best friend, heading to the bathrooms at the same time. Everyone in the room was too occupied with themselves to notice their synchronized trip to the restrooms.
Clyde leaned over to me, curious, "So what's the next step?"
I took a deep breath, my mind already formulating a plan, "MW Global will be restructured and revitalized. We'll start by changing the name to better reflect the company's new vision. All employees who were a part of the previous regime and don't align with our vision will be replaced. Production will be restored, and I will be the public face of the company. We will make sure every client, investor, and partner knows MW Global is back and back in force!"
Clyde grinned, impressed. "Ambitious. I like it."
I smiled, feeling a wave of pride and confidence wash over me, "We will reclaim everything. Every single asset, contract, every drop of reputation-and we will do it together."
Roman placed his hand on mine and looked at me, his eyes filled with confidence and a steady resolve, "We've got this.”
