# Chapter 163

# Chapter 163
Kira's POV

My heart skipped several beats when Ethan's eyes locked with mine. The smug smile spreading across his face told me everything I needed to know—my cover was blown, and with it, any element of surprise I'd hoped to maintain.

"Why don't you come down and join me, Kira?" Ethan called up, his voice eerily calm. "Witness history in the making."

I scanned the room quickly, calculating my options. The observation platform offered safety but no way to stop what was happening below. The countdown timer on the wall flashed ominously. Whatever Ethan was planning, it was about to happen, and I couldn't stop it from up here.

"Fuck it," I muttered and made my decision.

In one fluid motion, I vaulted over the railing and dropped to the floor below, landing in a crouch at the edge of the main control room.

What I saw stole my breath away. The main control room was massive, dominated by a central energy core that pulsed with unnatural blue light. Around it, ten raised platforms formed a circle, each equipped with what looked like neural interface chairs. The walls were lined with massive display screens, each showing real-time feeds of different werewolf territories. Some already showed packs moving in strange, synchronized patterns, like puppets dancing to the same invisible strings.

And at the center of it all stood Ethan. In his hand was a glowing device, its surface etched with intricate circuitry. His eyes gleamed with a fervor that sent chills down my spine.

"Finally face to face, Kira," he said, his voice amplified by the room's acoustics. "Come, take a look at my new world."

I moved cautiously along the perimeter, keeping my distance but trying to get a better view of the control panel. "Controlling Alphas to rule werewolf society? That's your grand plan?" I asked, hoping to keep him talking while I assessed the situation.

Ethan's smile widened. "Not just control. Evolution. Imagine it—a completely unified werewolf society. No infighting, no power struggles, just pure order."

"You're talking about enslavement, not unification," I countered, noticing how the energy field pulsated in a rhythmic pattern. There might be gaps in its coverage.

Ethan shook his head, disappointment flashing across his face. "Your thinking is so limited. I'm not controlling them—I'm liberating them. My consciousness will guide them, but their abilities remain their own."

As we spoke, I edged closer to one of the subsidiary control panels. The energy field was growing stronger by the second. Whatever window I had was closing fast.

Ethan turned back to the main console and initiated the next phase. The energy surged, flowing into each of the platforms. The countdown accelerated.

I reached for the tranquilizer gun at my hip, aimed quickly, and fired. The dart cut through the air but deflected off the energy field at the last second, spiraling harmlessly to the floor.

"Shit," I hissed under my breath.

My comm device vibrated slightly against my ear—a signal that my team was closing in. I needed to keep Ethan talking, keep him focused on me.

I studied the energy field, noticing fluctuations in its pattern. There were moments when it seemed thinner, weaker. If I timed it right...

"You used Rocco's pain," I said, deliberately touching a nerve. "His love for his sister. You made him your tool."

Ethan raised an eyebrow, amused. "I merely provided direction. His hatred was real enough."

"You manipulated everyone," I pressed. "Including my father's accident."

A non-committal smile played at Ethan's lips. "Every great plan requires some sacrifices. Your father was... stubborn."

Rage flared in my chest. "How many lives have you destroyed? For what? Power?"

Ethan's expression suddenly hardened, his eyes burning with intensity. "For necessary change! Werewolf society has stagnated for centuries. Ancient rules, outdated traditions. We could have ruled this world, yet we hide in the shadows."

I saw it then—the fanaticism, the absolute conviction. "So this is all about your ambition."

"Soon," Ethan said, activating another control sequence, "my consciousness will exist within every major Pack leader. One mind, multiple bodies. Perfect unity."

I was preparing to make another approach when I noticed movement at the side door. I kept my expression neutral, not wanting to alert Ethan.

"And what happens to their minds?" I asked, trying to hold his attention.

Suddenly, a secondary energy node erupted in sparks, causing a momentary disruption in the system. Ethan whirled toward the source of the interference, and I seized my chance.

I sprinted toward the main control panel, diving through the energy barrier during its momentary weakening. My skin burned as I passed through, but I made it to the console. My fingers flew across the controls, trying to abort the sequence.

"No!" Ethan roared, lunging toward me, but a blur of movement intercepted him.

Rocco stood between us, his stance wide and solid. "Long time no see, Ethan," he growled, his voice low and dangerous.

Ethan's shock gave way to a cold smile. "Blackwood. I guess you know the truth now. How does it feel to be the pawn?"

"Better than being the monster," Rocco replied, his eyes never leaving Ethan.

I frantically worked at the console, but hit a security wall. "The console needs verification codes! I can't stop the program!" I called out to Rocco.

Ethan laughed triumphantly. "Of course you can't. Only I know the codes. Unless you kill me, the program will continue."

Rocco and I exchanged a glance. "Kira, how much time?" he asked.

I looked at the countdown. "Three minutes! The system's already starting to transmit to the targets!"

Ethan spread his arms wide. "Too late. Even if you kill me now, the portions already transmitted will still execute. My consciousness has begun to spread."

I turned back to the console, analyzing the data streams. The energy distribution system might be vulnerable. If I could redirect the pathways, create an overload...

I began reprogramming, redirecting energy flows while Rocco and Ethan engaged in a brutal fight. Both men moved with Alpha wolf strength and speed, their bodies blurring with motion. The facility began to destabilize, chunks of ceiling falling as warning alarms blared.

"Rebecca," I shouted into my comm, "I need to know how to overload the main system without causing a chain reaction!"

Rebecca's voice came through with instructions, and I worked furiously to implement them. Meanwhile, Rocco and Ethan's fight was causing more system damage, inadvertently helping my plan.

"You'll destroy everything!" Ethan shouted as he realized what I was doing. "Including the imprisoned Alphas!"

"It's over," Rocco said. "Your 'new world' isn't coming."

Ethan suddenly laughed, a chilling sound that echoed through the chamber. "You think this is everything? I have backup facilities. This is just the beginning."

He activated a device on his wrist. "If I can't complete it, then no one will. Self-destruct protocol initiated."

The facility shuddered violently, the energy core becoming unstable.

"Rocco!" I shouted. "We need to go! The whole system is going to collapse!"

Rocco knocked Ethan unconscious with a powerful blow and began dragging him toward the exit. I finished my destructive programming, ensuring the consciousness transfer program would be completely corrupted, then grabbed several key data drives and an uninitiated "consciousness vessel" prototype.

We ran through the violently shaking facility, debris falling all around us. A massive section of ceiling collapsed, blocking our primary escape route.

"This way!" Rocco shouted, hauling Ethan's limp form as we detoured down a side corridor.

"Andy," I called into my comm, "are all personnel evacuated?"

"Confirmed," came the reply. "We're all clear. Where are you?"

"Still inside. Primary exit blocked. Looking for alternate route."

We found an emergency exit and burst through just as the structure began to implode behind us. We sprinted across the clearing, the ground trembling beneath our feet.

We'd barely reached a safe distance when the entire facility exploded, the force of the blast throwing us to the ground. I covered my head as debris rained down around us.

When I looked up, the building was a smoking ruin, flames licking at what remained of the walls. Ethan, lying face-down nearby, stirred and tried to crawl away. Rocco was on him in an instant, restraining him with zip ties.

As the smoke cleared, I saw our team members gathering. Andy approached, limping slightly but alive.

"You did it," he said simply.

I nodded, too exhausted for more. "For now."

Rocco jerked his head toward the restrained Ethan. "Now we have more pressing matters."

I held up the consciousness vessel I'd salvaged. "Yes. Kim needs us."

Andy gently touched the device. "Can Rebecca use this to help her?"

I looked at both men, gratitude washing over me for their help, their loyalty, their courage. "Thank you. Both of you. Now, let's go home."
