Chapter 98 Are they separating?!
98\. Are they separating?!
In the following evening, Aurora returned back to Damien after getting up from a nap.
"Damien?" She stopped at the doorstep of the study but found the room empty.
His laptop was gone, so did the files she's seen laden on his desk that he was referring to. Aura called out for him again and then shut the door behind her.
'He told me he would be in the study. Where did he go all of a sudden? Ugh, I want you around me, Damien Hunter. Where the hell are you?' She pouted and trudged back to their room.
Aura instead walked to the hall. She was about to settle down on the couch when she saw Madam Martha coming towards her.
"Good evening, honey,"
"Good evening, Ma." Aura hugged her happily and the two of them adjusted beside each other.
"You want me to make you something, baby? Like soup or anything."
Aura who was looking around for Damien brought her face to look at her mother and declined politely. Madam Martha read through her expressions and smiled. She caressed Aura's face and answered her queries.
"Damien received a call from Brian and went to the headquarters on an urgent basis. He shall return soon." Aura sighed.
At least she had the information regarding his whereabouts. She didn't mind him leaving either since Damien had been operating from the mansion from the last half the month.
As soon as Aura entered her ninth month, Damien promised to be with her. He had been very gentle and caring towards her. But the problem was that she was used to him. She wanted him when her eyes opened and before she fell asleep. Aura missed him around her.
"Okay, Brian, we'll deal with that later on. The situation is under our control at the moment so there is no need to worry about it now." Aura's head spun to the huge entrance of the mansion.
Her face bloomed up like a flower from a small bud. She got up and ran in his direction but slowed down as she met his stern gaze.
"Yep, okay." Having disconnected the call, he ground his choppers aggressively and glared at her like a devil. "What's with you, Aurora Hunter? Why don't you listen to me?"
He grunted and took her by the wrist with slight stiffness. Damien made her sit on the couch and brought his smoldering golden eyes on her face, "Nobody violates my words as much as you do. I am totally fed up with you now. Just because you are my wife it doesn't mean you will overstep my orders. You have to respect them too." His hard tone made her eyes twinkle.
One can see he was pissed due to some other reason but the frustration was coming out on poor Aurora who ever wanted was his presence.
"What made you leave the bedroom now?" Aura controlled her tears as she felt his grip compressing on her wrists.
"You were not there in the room. I... I came to look for you." Her innocent reply was not enraging but he scowled.
"Who told you to come look for me?" Damien let go of her wrists and rose. He stood like a mountain over her head while she gulped her tears. "I may be operating from home Aura but I have to go out for important meetings. You can't expect me to linger around you all time."
"I... I missed you."
"I am always around you, there's no way you could be missing me so much when I am hardly gone for an hour two." His hand went to his hair.
He turned around to avoid her tears. Her wrenching tears echoed through the air but the alpha seemed to have blocked his ears. He twisted his mouth sourly and eyed Madam Martha as if ordering her to take Aura away to their quarters.
Madam Martha sensed something was wrong with his mood but she didn't dare utter a word. She covered Aura's shoulders and helped her stand up.
"Come on, baby, let's go and rest." Giving him one last look, Aura turned around and left, her eyes watering constantly.
The servants who had been witnessing the event from behind the pillars and at a distance quickly scurried away as they sensed their alpha's dark eyes catching them. The area was emptied within no time, leaving Damien alone in the huge hall with a sulking feeling.
'She is fucking pregnant! You shouldn't have screamed at her like that.' He heard his wolf.
Damien didn't respond. He sat on the couch and clutched his head. His racing heart ached with anguish as the precious tears of her eyes dawned on him.
He regretted shouting at her now that she was gone. Now that he was alone and reprocessed how he treated his eight and half months pregnant wife.
"What the hell did I do?" He rose and sprinted towards their bedroom.
Her hurt sobs and laborious breathing was audible down the corridor. As Damien dragged his steps further, his heart wrenched. He felt remorseful for hurting her.
"Aura," His panicked voice rumbled in their bedroom.
She was wine red and trembling awfully. Her teeth sunk in her plump lips as she tried to arrest her sobs in her mouth.
"I am sorry, love," Damien sat on the edge of the bed and pulled her head against his chest. "I am extremely sorry."
"You are cruel. I wish I never returned to you." Her words stab his heart.
But he knew the fault was his and those words were the outcome of her pregnancy hormones and the pain he cast on her. He was indeed sorry but the root cause that made him vent like that was even scarier. It was so disturbing that he could not control his temper.
"Sshh, don't you ever say that. I would die without you." His voice fell a few octaves lower.
"I don't want to be with you."
"Where else would you go?"
"Anywhere but I won't stay here. I... I don't want to stay with you." Damien smiled sadly at her words.
Why? Her body was contradicting her tone. She clutched at his shirt and pressed her face harder against his chest.
"I will leave the room if you want— I'll leave the mansion if you order. This house is yours, Aura." He said only to sense her wrap her hands around his shoulders and cry harder.
"I only wanted to be with you when I woke up. But you," She choked and coughed.
Scared, Alpha Damien kissed her hair and gestured to Madam Martha to call the doctor. She wouldn't stop breathing hard.
"I am sorry, Aura. Something happened and I couldn't hold my outrage. It came out on you." He hugged her tightly.
Soon she was under control and composed. Her tears were bothersome provided that they wouldn't stop streaming. But some lighthearted and lame jokes were replaced with a glimmer in her eyes.
"Don't you ever dare shout at me like that. I am your Luna, and I have every right to go beyond your words or not follow them." She pouted.
"Never. You can even change the law and system in the pack if you wish, my Luna." Damien put some strand of her loose hair behind her ear and kissed her forehead. "You know I never did this before... It's just that," He couldn't tell her the reason.
Hence, he smiled and tried to change the topic, "Okay, Ginny phoned me."
"She did? How is she, Damien?" Aura squealed.
She's become good friends with her. In the last few months, Ginny and her did a lot of things together. If not Damien then Aura loved her presence around her. She's become a great company to her.
Had it not been for a new shoot project for a big brand, Ginny would not have left. Today marks the fifteenth day.
"She is good. But she sounded mad and asked me to ask you where do you keep your phone. She's been trying to video call you since morning." Aura started rummaging her phone under and around the pillows.
"It's here," Madam Martha, who had been quietly watching the couple have their cute conversation forward her phone.
"Oh, it's on silent." Aura sheepishly smiled. "Damn, there are thirty one missed calls and eight video call notifications."
Damien forced his lips to smile. He watched her brighten and laugh happily as the video call connected with Ginny.
"You weirdo, where the fck have you been the whole day?" Ginny bellowed excitedly. "I've been trying to call you since morning."
"Sorry, my phone was on silent." Damien watched her reply cheerfully.
Ginny happened to be a good company. She spent most of her time here in the mansion with Aurora when she was not working. It was helpful given that it would distract Aura from her alpha husband and concentrate on Ginny and her crazy talks. This allowed Damien invest some time towards his business.
"Leave everything aside and listen to me carefully," Ginny sounded extraordinarily happy. "You won't believe who I met this morning?"
"Who?"
"Scott Steiner, the sexy actor from Australia." Damien's eyes rolled at the mention of his name.
These girls loved that man who was not even half handsome as him. But they loved him like they would feast on him if they ever happened to cross a path with him.
"Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! Tell me this is not a lie."
"Damn, it's not. You can bet on it." Ginny answered.
"Gosh, why the hell am I not there with you. I love him so much. He's a sexy beast. I am jealous of you, Ginny. Tell me how did the meeting go?" Damien didn't like her choice of words and excitement while describing other man but he was okay as long as she was distracted and didn't think about his stupid scolding.
He got up, kissed her head, greeted Ginny and left the room. Having come back to the hall, just as he rested his butt down Madam Martha appeared.
"What it is, Damien?" Her expressions indicated that she breathed fear around him and in his chest.
