Twenty Seven

Twenty Seven
Amber.

Carmen dragged me out of the halls where we just had our not so good encounter. Her expression was dark with anger and it seemed she was restraining herself from blurting out something that would alarm me. If she was trying to hide it from me then she was doing a bad job because I was even more suspicious.

"Carmen, you're hurting me." I finally cried out and I watched her return back to reality. She blinked rapidly, her shoulders heaved down her gaze still on me, she had a sorry look.

"I am sorry about that, I was…." Her words trailed off in her mouth.

"Angry?" I asked. "Is there something I need to know?"

I shifted my weight to another leg and I looked at her, my heart running miles. I hated being lied to, it brought back the unfriendly memories of Reece. All these years I had believed bullying was just his nature and an escape to whatever is it that held him down, but he seems he wasn't just a bully afterall. He was also a psychopath and power thirsty greedy guy.

"I don't know where to start from."

"Okay, I think info." I braced myself and shifted closer to her in fear that our conversation was illegal or would be heard by the wrong people. I didn't even know who she was and what role she played in the pack. "Let's start from who Brend is."

"I didn't expect you to ask that." She paused.

I shrugged. "It doesn't matter does it?"

"She is Raze's… girlfriend. Would I say his old acquaintance now you are here, her presence shouldn't be a bother." She explained.

A frown crept its way to my face. "Who am I to Raze that would make him reject his girlfriend? Hell we aren't even close to being anything." I made it clear to her but the faint heat between my legs that reminded me of our not so good encounter spoke numbers.

I felt a pat on my shoulders, she watched me intently, her two hands by my side. "You don't have to bother about anything Amber, I sure won't let Brenda get to you."

I shrugged from her hold and had an annoyed look plastered on my face. "Why do you all keep talking like I am Raze property, you are all intentionally giving me false hopes so I won't pay heed to the warnings in my head." Those were the loudest words I have blurted since I came here.

In return she gave me a 'sorry it's not in my place to tell you to look.

"Fine, let's get on with something else." I told her and she perked up immediately.

Her bright smiles returned, she pulled my hands towards the exit of the palace. "Come, I bet you haven't had a good tour round this large palace?"

"No." I said in response.

"That's great, now let me give you the most pleasant tour."

She led me through the courtyard that was decorated with different ornamental flowers. They were placed in a block pattern where we had to find our way in their midst, but Carmen wasn't finding or looking for anything, she just walked through without having to think twice. I walked sheepishly at her back as she led me through, and we finally arrived at the most beautiful garden I have ever seen.

"Wow. It's so beautiful."

"I know right?" She raised an amused brow at me and focused her attention back to the garden.

The garden had lots of green flowers, very light and shiny green that you could mistake them for fluorescent papers. A few had perches of different coloured buds.

"This is Alpha Raze special Garden."

My eyes widened in shock, my heart started to race and I took a step back from the beauty in front of me. "Why did you bring me here? Won't he get mad? Would we get punished?"

She smirked. "I won't get punished." She paused for effect. "But you might."

Colour rose to my cheeks as my last punishment went through my eyes. No, I didn't want that. I didn't want to be left hanging and wanting, he clearly loved that.

"I don't want to, let's get out of here." I pulled her against her protest and went to God knows where, because I didn't have the faintest idea of where I was leading her to, I just wanted us to get out of here.

'To avoid being punished.' My subconscious added and I blocked the thought.

"Quite a good lead, you led us to a very interesting point." She smiled, her gaze pinned somewhere, I followed I and it landed on the kitchen. It was really large, I could see workers moving in and out as they made whatever delicacies they were cooking up.

"Do they cook for the whole pack?" I asked.

"Yes." She smiled and I wondered why the hell she did that.

"Why?" I asked in horror. "Aren't pack members preparing their food themselves rather than putting the load on these women and eating for free?"

I really detested the idea, I knew how it felt to have all the loads of work dumped on you and have people treat it like it was worth nothing.

"Hey. Calm down will you?" She regarded me with concern and went further to explain. "First, don't get it that we are exploiting them. First we are a warrior pack and every agile member here fights for the protection of the pack, which is an edge for them to get free food." She quoted. "But still, they prepare and sell it at our tavern"

"What's that?"

"Like our bar? Or would I say club?" She shrugged.

"Who would have thought that the ever almighty warrior pack also has lots of side yet to see." I mused loudly.

She flashed me a grin. "Oh dear, there are truly a lot of things you are oblivious to and I'll do my best to show you around.

"Alright then, get to it."
