Chapter 9 Blood At The Border
Chapter 9
Mila's POV.
The blurry vision of the world settled in front of me. Like I was dreaming and even if I was, I prayed that someone should please wake me up. Of course, it looks as if the moon goddess had answered the latter and left the former for me to fix.
But wait a minute.
This doesn't look good. As the sharp pain sent the reality of the world suddenly in front of me down my spine. One of my eyes had completely closed up while I could hardly see with the other.
The world before me was marked with noise, bonfire, and pandemonium.
Then reality hit me, as I found myself being tied to a stark. Stark naked. With barbed wire. Blood dripped from my nostrils.
Pandemonium of wolves enveloped me. Roaring with condemnation, destruction and disdain.
Death to Mila!
Death to Mila!
Was the chorus from the crowd. It snapped from my imagination and I quickly understood where I was.
It was at the border and death which Damien had tried his best to prevent me from seeing had finally come.
“Welcome home,” that would be the voice of Mr death as he welcomed into his warm and embrace arm, though painfully and regrettably.
I knew by this time Damien and his grandmother would have been spared the worst judgement that would come was banishing him for aiding my escape.
For a moment I searched through the crowd, hoping to see Damien, but he was nowhere to be found. Gone.
He must have been banished and his punishment carried out in silence.
Then the chaos died down.
silence spread through the crowd as a tall greyed-hair figure stepped into the scene. Facing the crowd, At first, I didn't see a face. Then he turned. It was him. Alpha Vexhood Clapperthorn. The man behind all these ordeals. My ordeals.
His fur cloak dragged against the death and his silver eyes glimmered with the calm of judgment long rehearsed for this moment.
He lifted his staff, a black oak tipped with silver fang and murmured faded until only the crackling of the sound remained.
By the decree of our king, Alpha Jax Redmane,” He paused a bit looking into the crowd. “ We gathered tonight to deliver the judgement upon one who had defiled the sacred law of this pack.”
He turned his gaze towards me unflinchingly, ancient and cold.
Mila, the daughter of Lucien Blackthorn, the great healer. You are branded a traitor of the stormfang pack and thereby charged with the following crimes.”
He unrolled a scroll and the edges blackened with torches that came from the surrounding.
First-manipulating the new king and having sexual intercourse in the Passover week.
Secondly- lying against the gods of our land that a letter was sent to our king to violate you in the Passover week.
Thirdly- poisoning the Queen mother, until she met her untimely death.
Lastly-poisoning the only water in the stormfang suitable for drinking.
He lowered the scroll , every eye of the crowd burnt into me.
“Do you deny these charges?”
My voice cracked as I tried to gather the remaining energy in me to counter the lie. But a rasp escaped through my throat.
How will I defend myself in front of these evil people who just wanted nothing but death to my soul?
Elder Vexhood nodded as if my silence was proof of guilt.
“Then by the will of the moon goddess and the and the law written in the blood of our ancestors. I, Alpha Vexhood of the stormfang pack, pronounced your sentence…”
He struck the ground with his staff, and the crowd howled.
“...death… by stoning!”
A ripple of sound tore through the air. Some laughed. Some growled. Some cheered.
Alpha Vexhood thundered one last time. “Let her remnant be burnt and let it be cast out into the evil forest far beyond the shores of this pack.”
Then a big roar among the crowd. Th
Then the first stone flew, it hit me on my shoulder. It felt like a fire. It felt like a bone breaking. I gasped.
Then the second followed. Then…
A strong voice ran into the scene.
“Stop!”
My heart froze.
Damien!
What … is he doing here? He should have been on a journey far away from here with her grandmother to a distant pack.
The angry mob paused for a minute.
Damien crawled to where elder Vexhood was standing. He looked hurt, a little weak but his eyes were still filled with fire.
"Don't let him come closer.”
Alpha Vexhood fumed. “I warned you not to step your feet into this pack again but you insist.”
“Please don't let them do this,” Damien begged as he crawled on the ground towards Alpha vexhood standpoint.
He was quickly dragged away from the Alpha Vexhood standpoint like a cursed object.
“What should be done to him?” Alpha Vexhood asked.
“Since he had insisted on following his cursed mate to the afterlife,” One with a heavy stone cried out, " Let the same fate that fell on wicked Mila fell on him too!"
Yes!" Another one opined in anger.
And the noise spreads throughout
“Death to Damien!”
Alpha Vexhood raised his hand in affirmation.
“The pack has the final say.”
Like they have been waiting for that from Alpha Vexhood.
A big stone rolled in the air. It hit Damien while tossing him to the ground.
He staggered up rushing to save and guide me from where I had been tied to.
A series of stones came hitting both of us.
He finally got to me. Hugging himself . Our eyes locked on each other.
I… I am so… s..” before he could finish it, a very large stone hit his head, splashing every content of his
brain on me.
“Da… mi…” I try to force myself to say something
Until another stone came in and hit me in the head.
Then darkness overwhelmed my vision.
