Chapter 199 THE UNEXPECTED VISITOR.
Chapter 199
“ALPHA JAX! WHAT?!”
The voice erupted from my lips, as though the ground should open up and swallow me whole.
I wasn’t the only one. Everyone else froze too, shock painted across their faces, like bearers of terrible news.
The air in the room stood still. It was supposed to be cold and chilling, yet it burned against my skin like hot coal.
My lips parted, and I couldn’t close them. My knees buckled inward. Every part of my body trembled as though I were about to give my last breath.
Alpha Vexhood wasn’t left out either. He rose from the throne. His totem slipped from his hand instantly and struck the polished floor with a strange sound. He quickly exchanged glances with me. He knew the hen had come to roost.
“No one…” Alpha Jax’s voice cut through the silence. “No one will take my place, I mean my ancestors' place!”
“Alpha Jax!” A few voices echoed, murmurs rippling through the air.
He quickly replied to their murmuring and shock plastered on everyone's face.
“I am still alive, and no one born of a woman will take my place.”
Everyone stared as though a ghost had appeared in our midst. We looked at him from head to toe. He was a shadow, a shame of his former self.
His clothes were torn, like a man who had escaped an inferno by sheer luck. There was no trace of royal grace. Absolutely nothing.
His hair was dirty and unkempt, his regalia shredded, his shoes worn and covered in rubble and mud. It was obvious, he had clawed his way out of hell.
Everything in the room went still to the extent one could hear the sound of a needle if it fell.
Alpha Jax's worn out shoes dragged against the floor as he walked into the centre of the room, using the last of his strength, toward the throne.
He looked at me from head to toe, like I was something one should not talk about.
It felt as though the earth should open and swallow me whole.
Then he faced the crowd.
“I am back to reclaim the rightful place of my ancestors. No one will take this seat from me.”
“Thank you so much, Rosa,” he said sharply. “I saw all your evil works.”
I couldn’t respond. My body trembled violently, rooted to the same spot.
“I know,” he continued calmly, “you have been evil all along. I needed to send you to the abyss. You instructed Brielle to bug my room, and when she was about to be exposed, you tricked her into Alpha Dominion’s pack to harvest my life like an unripe fruit…”
“Please, Alpha Jax…” My eyes flickered to Alpha Vexhood.
He was staring at the floor, as though he weren’t even in the room, like the gods were whispering secrets to him. He gripped his totem firmly, never once looking up.
“Here is my judgment….”
“No judgment!” Alpha Vexhood snapped, clapping his hands once as he lifted his gaze. Like he had just returned to the room. He picked up his totem that slipped off his hand.
“You will go back to where you came from. Your reign is over, and no one will stop my lineage from claiming this throne. I worked very hard to get you here!”
Alpha Jax let out a deep, hollow laugh. It sounded almost theatrical.
“You must be joking, Vexhood…” Alpha Jax fired back , no alpha. Nothing. His voice was laced with venom. “I know your manipulation and wickedness have come to an end. You slowly poisoned my father—the poor wolf begged for death before it finally came. The same fate befell my mother. She died from poison, all orchestrated by you.”
The whole world, including myself, is like two long-term enemies trying to settle a long term feud.
“And Mila, my soulmate, who tried to save her… she became a victim of your schemes as well.”
“Enough! Do not speak filth of the gods!”
“Gods? From your mouth, Vexhood? Do you even know that name? Do you even know if it truly exists?” Alpha Jax scoffed. “The gods are not speaking. They are not talkative. Everything you’ve done in this pack comes from your own greed, your devilish ambition to become king and carry out to manipulate these foolish ones who are prone to your deceit.”
Jax's voice dropped.
“You conspired with this wicked lot to kill Mila, her own sister!”
The murmurs deepened. Eyes darted from one face to another.
“And you lot should keep quiet too!” Alpha Jax barked at the crowd. “Because this devil incarnate…” he pointed at Alpha Vexhood, who now stared at the ceiling, muttering incoherently as though in prayer… “the one you call the voice of the gods… is nothing but a fraud!”
“He worked with your bloody queen to kill Mila and convinced you fools that she was the evil threatening this pack!”
“You shameless lot stoned her to death. And you…” his gaze hardened, “you dragged me into your schemes so this greedy old bastard could turn me against my own savior… your savior. Look at what everything has become!”
“Enough! Bloody, loose tongue!” Alpha Vexhood’s voice lashed through the room like a whip.
“You cannot silence me,” Alpha Jax shot back. “The worst you can do is strike that filthy totem and spill more blood.”
The words hit Alpha Vexhood hard. His control began to crack.
With a sudden motion, he slammed his totem to the ground.
It glowed, green and ominous.
Alpha Jax turned to him, spreading his arms wide, as though welcoming death.
“Go on, Alpha Vexhood,” he said calmly, shutting his eyes. “I pray our paths never cross again in the afterlife.”
Panic settled among the crowd, anticipation thick in the air. Everyone knows what will follow. Loud thud would hit the ground and blood would start flowing like a stream finding its path.
Then…
BOOM!
The strike didn’t hit Alpha Jax.
It hit someone else. And that someone else… was Alpha Vexhood.
