Chapter 182 WHEN DEATH STRUCK UNEXPECTEDLY

Chapter 182 WHEN DEATH STRUCK UNEXPECTEDLY

Chapter 179

Jax’s POV

Before I could reach for my gun.

Before I could turn.

Leo had already brought out his gun.

Click.

Bang!

A bullet, from what seemed like a shotgun, erupted.

It hit my chest.

I lowered gradually to the ground, my gun still clasped in my hand.

My body hit the floor with a dull thud.

My vision blurred.

I could hear faint, distant communication laced with screaming.

“Abomination! You shot a king… an anointed king… a sitting king!”

I could hear the distant voice. “Oh my God, Leo, what have you done?”

“I will kill him twice for six gold bars… mother…”

Before I could give it up,

I heard multiple gunshots again, something like Brielle had shot too from where she lay on the bed.

Then everything turned to darkness.

Leo’s POV

I sprang up in joy as I drifted toward Mother.

“Mother, we did it!”

“What did you do, bastard child?” Mother countered, her voice erupting through the air. She quickly pushed me away, as if my body carried vermin and I was ready to infect her.

“You’ve placed a curse on our bloodline!”

“Don’t you see what your son has done, Erasmus?” my mother’s voice erupted again. “He has finally exposed this family to the wrath of the gods!”

“Mother, enough!” I snapped, my voice tense with anger, holding the gun like I might use it on her, if not for the fact that she is my mother.

I turned to my father, my clothes drenched in the blood of Alpha Jax and Brielle. Their blood splattered everywhere.

“I will do that again and again for five gold bars!”

I walked closer to my father.

“All I want is to take you, Mother, and Melissa out of this miserable lifestyle.”

“They will look for us and find us, my stupid son.”

“You think the sound of the bullet will not start attracting pack members here?” Mother’s voice erupted again. “You think people will not start asking questions?”

“How can you be so dumb? How could you not think this through before you laid your hands on it?”

“If no one saw you coming, what about the border police? Won’t pack members in Stormfang ask for their king? Didn’t they know when both of you left the pack? What about the driver that brought him here?”

“Oh! My God!”

The words hit me.

My face widened.

“Let me quickly go and handle that…”

I moved closer to Father while Mother was still erupting with fear and anger.

Father was the only one bold enough to support this move.

“Father,” my voice softened as I drew closer to him, “please silence every patient who does not want to cooperate.”

I reached for the other pistol tucked at my back.

He nodded.

“Don’t worry, son. This is a small job.”

I tapped his back repeatedly.

“Oh God!” Mother’s voice erupted again. She stood still at the corner of the room, like seeing blood wasn’t part of her life.

“Shut up there, old wolf!” I snapped, directing my gun at her. “I don’t want any noise here.”

I left them and jumped over the lifeless body of Alpha Jax. His blood trickled out like a burst tap.

As I stepped out, my shoes clicked fast against the floor.

My shotgun was clasped tightly in my hand.

I didn’t take the passageway we used earlier. Instead, I went through the back of the building leading to the storeroom, and from there, it would take me to the compound.

Thankfully, the gate had been shut by my father.

I crawled low to the car that brought the king.

Damn.

The driver was gone. The door was left open.

I looked around. I knew he must have climbed the fence to escape.

I opened the gate gradually.

He wouldn’t have gone far.

This place was surrounded by trees and thick grass, the extreme end of the pack, leading to the big lagoon, far from the city.

I scanned the ground, checking for footprints with my torchlight. No sign he was hiding behind the trees.

Something told me he wouldn’t go far into the thick forest.

Something told me he was close.

My torch in one hand. My gun in the other.

Then I saw it, his footprints leading into the nearest bushes.

I traced them carefully to the foot of a nearby tree.

Then a shadow appeared behind it.

A gun clicked.

“Come out of there. Now!”

I directed my torch at the tree, my grip tightening around the gun.

“Please, don’t kill me,” the voice cried, hands raised in surrender. His voice trembled with fear.

He stepped out hurriedly. I immediately directed him toward the can
al close to the healing house.

“Move!” I ordered.

“P-please don’t kill me,” he stammered, his voice shaking.

Then I cocked my gun.
