Chapter 147 The Hidden Recorder
Chapter 139
Jax's POV.
For the past couple of days myself and lyra had been having some kind of back and forth.
I can't do this anymore,” she said as she held her mop to her side and turned to me.
Why?" I replied as I stood from the bed, gravitating towards her.
It was obvious that her face was overwhelmed with a lot of concern.
" Your Luna challenged me if I was having something with you…”
“You mean Rosa?”
“Yes,” her breathing hitched, I quickly observed the inward and outward movement of her chest, "she even went ahead to threaten me…”
" How did she threaten you?”
She said she will make me regret it throughout the rest of my life if I try to have anything to do with you.”
“You know that is an empty threat from Rosa, since she couldn't have me,” I replied, drifting closer to her, my eyes lurking into eyes, " so anyone she sees around me, she would try to threaten them from not having anything to do with me."
" That is why I just don't want to have anything to do with you," I turned to Jax, let caught this off. This can't work, you know…”
“Dont say that…” I quickly interrupted her before she could say more, "You know that will not be possible, you can ask for any other thing… I will so much agree with you…”
I drifted to her and drew her closer to me, and kissed her on the forehead. “I am just so used to you now lyra… I promise to… ”
The words stuck to my throat, like I had taken something abominable. I paused.
Then a knock at the main door, not the one that led to my bedroom but the living room. Outside the cottage.
The air in the room froze, myself and lyra lurked eyes on each. Silence filled the room.
Lyra thrust her hand forward, toward me for me to keep quiet for a moment.
She opened the door slightly, the door drifted partly apart. It creaked either and she squeezed brow. It was someone. Someone she didn't expect.
I tiptoed towards her, then someone, one of the maids, an omega.
She walked into the living room. But something was wrong with her composure.
I wrinkled my face. I watched her next step.
She looked everywhere around to check if someone was either coming into the room or watching her.
When she saw that the road was cleared.
She went back to the food she placed on the table. At first my mind almost jumped out from my mouth.
I thought she wanted to poison the meal she brought. I would spring out of the bedroom. I don't care what pack members would say if they Lyra with me in the bedroom together.
I would have instructed Brielle, or whatever her name is called, to start eating the poison she prepared for me.
I would go ahead to ask who sent her and what was her mission to poison me.
Lyra instructed me to wait , watch and see what was about to be unveiled. Like it had been revealed to her by the gods.
Then we saw Brielle tucked her slender hand under her overall and she brought out something that looks like a recording device.
Small. Very difficult to notice, not up to a few inches in length.
Brielle looked everywhere around her to check one more time if someone was watching.
She wanted to place it at the back of the wall clock right there in the living room. But quickly found out that that place was not secured enough.
She then quickly placed the recorder at the pottery stand close to the dining room.
I yanked up.
“Let me challenge that idiot!” He muttered, gritting my teeth. I balled my hand into a fist. My hair stood up.
She quickly pulled me back as I was about to reach for the door knob to challenge the imposter.
“You can't do that while I am here with you.” She warned, pointing her hands towards me like a dagger, " She would be the one to spread the news through the pack that we are having something together…”
I was startled. Eyes widened apart. Someone that wants to bug the king's palace? That is nothing but treason. I should banish her from the pack or throw her into prison where she spent the rest of her fruitful life in jail.
“You can go ahead and do whatever you want to do, but allow me to finish my work and leave this room first.”
Lyra clapped back. She has a point there. I had to allow her to leave my room before embarking on any action.
Then we heard resounding steps moving towards the bedroom door.
Lyra quickly jumped behind the door , hiding like a snake in the thickest part of a forest ready to prey on its food.
Bang… bang…
“My lord, …I just want to tell you that your food is ready.”
The voice of Brielle echoed behind the door. Like she was innocent, like she couldn't hurt a fly.
You can go,” I cleared my throat, my hand attached to the door, probably Brielle could open the door from her side, to check what was going inside. Spies will always be spies.
“... I will send for you or any of the maid anytime I need you,"
Ok, your honor," Brielle replied and left.
I could hear the sound of her footsteps as it disappeared away from the door steps.
I allowed the footsteps to die down. When I finally moved from the door.
No one can tell me otherwise… it was Rosa that sent her!”
Lyra picked up her mop from the floor. She didn't respond. She turned to me
“This is one of the reasons I told you this won't work,”
I clenched my jaw, slammed my fist into my palm, “I am getting to the root of the matter now! This is a treasonable offense.”
