Chapter 110 The Confession

Chapter 110 The Confession
Chapter 110

Alpha Jax’s POV

Sweat trickled down from my head and slowly it dripped to the tip of my nose.

I quickly shook it off as droplet of sweat vanished into the air.

I sucked in deep breath and looked around the room.

The stone walls. The tall window. My bed.

My stomach clumped together.

This wasn’t a dream.

The beach. The storm. The voice. My father.

Real.

My fingers curled at my sides. My heart thudded hard, like it wanted to break free.

He hadn’t abandoned me.

He hadn’t left me to suffer alone.

He had come back to warn me.

A loud rattle burst through the silence.

I stiffened.

The door shook again.

I turned my head slowly toward it, my eyes moving to the clock on the wall. The short hand rested just past six.

Six in the morning.

The sun had not risen. The pack would still be asleep.

Who could have the audacity to knock on the alpha's door at this ungodly hour unless something had gone wrong again.

My jaw tightened.

Another knock. Harder.

I erupted in anger.

I swung my leg on the bed I lay on.

“Who is that?” I asked.

My voice sounded rough, cracked, like dry wood snapping in fire.

Then I waited for a moment.

A voice suddenly cut-through. Think and urgent.

“I’m sorry for the disturbance, my lord. Alpha Francis demands to see you. He said it is urgent. A matter of life and death.”

Alpha Francis.

My brows pulled together.

The viticulturist.

“What does he want now?” I muttered under my breath.

I rubbed my face, then answered louder, “Fine. Tell him I’m coming.”

“Yes, my lord.”

Footsteps hurried away.

I pulled off my night robe and threw it on the chair. My hands moved fast, careless. I grabbed simple clothes and slipped them on without thinking.

My mind was already racing.

Life and death.

That phrase echoed too loudly.

A few minutes later, I entered the palace hall.

The place felt empty. Cold.

The walls were dim, only half-lit. Some of the lights were still broken from the lightning strike days ago. Cracks ran through the stone like scars.

Before I could to the king’s seat, someone darted towards me.

Alpha Francis.

He fell fast ok his knees to the extent that his robe scraped the tiled floor. He grabbed my leg along.

“My lord!” he cried.

His forehead pressed to the cold stone. His shoulders shook. Tears soaked his beard.

I froze.

My arms crossed over my chest on their own.

“What is wrong, Alpha Francis?” I asked.

My voice came out calm, but my stomach twisted.

“A lot is wrong,” he sobbed. “A lot is wrong with us, my lord.”

His grip tightened around my legs, his fingers trembling.

Pack members would talk if they saw this.

A prominent Alpha kneeling. Crying. Begging at dawn.

Rumors would spread like fire.

“Stand up,” I said firmly. “Now.”

I bent down and pulled him by the arm, forcing him up.

He stumbled but managed to stand, his eyes red and swollen. His lips quivered as he wiped his face with his sleeve.

The damaged hall felt heavier with every breath.

Images flashed in my mind.

Lightning tearing through the sky.

The screams.

Bodies falling.

The Omega who had confessed.

The crack of thunder that killed her before she could say more.

Twenty lives gone in seconds.

I clenched my jaw.

Alpha Francis swallowed hard. His hands twisted together in front of him.

“My household,” he said, his voice shaking, “has committed a great sin against yours.”

My legs locked.

“What did you say?” I asked quietly.

He dropped again, slower this time, kneeling but not touching me. His head bowed low.

“My fated mate,” he whispered. “Lady Sarah. She has sinned.”

My fingers dug into my arms.

“How?” I asked.

The word barely left my mouth.

He lifted his head. His eyes were full of fear.

“She knows everyone who took part in Mila’s death.”

The hall seemed to tilt.

Mila.

The name hit me like a punch.

My father’s voice echoed in my head.

Question everything.

Especially Mila.

My chest tightened.

“You must be lying,” I said. “This is not funny.”

“I swear to the gods,” Alpha Francis cried. “I did not know. She hid it from me.”

He shook his head again and again.

“All the elders,” he continued. “They were involved. Every one of them.”

My breath caught.

“They poisoned her,” he said. “With Silencium-9.”

The words crushed me.

I threw my hand to my head like disaster had happened to you.

Silencium-9.

A silent killer.

My knees felt weak.

“They lied to you,” Alpha Francis went on, his voice breaking. “They made you believe false things. Mila knew nothing about your mother’s death. Nothing.”

My heart dropped.

Each word felt like a blade cutting deeper.

“Every lie told about her,” he said softly, “she was innocent.”

My hand curled into a fist.

Anger burned hot, mixing with regret.

“I only learned the truth last night,” he added quickly. “I swear it.”

I lowered my hand and looked at him.

“Enough,” I said. “Send your Luna to me. Now.”

His face squeezed up and he nodded slowly.

“She is gone,” he whispered.

My chest tightened.

“What do you mean?” I demanded.

“She confessed,” he said. “Then she poisoned herself. Yesterday.”

The room went silent.

My ears rang.

“Right in front of me,” he continued, his voice hollow. “Right in front of our pup. She was still holding her stomach.”

The words crushed what little air I had left.

I turned away.

My back faced him now.

I couldn't bear it anymore. Looking and speaking.

Everything in me shattered like porcelain.

My father’s warning.

Mila’s name.

The lies.

The deaths.

I took a step forward.

Then another.

My feet felt heavy, like they were sinking into the floor.

I walked away without a word.

Behind me, Alpha Francis stayed silent.

I left the hall.

The day had not yet broken, so the palace corridor's was dark.

The palace corridors blurred as I walked.

My thoughts twisted together, forming ugly pictures in my mind. Mila. My mother. The elders. The gods.

The truth hid
ing behind blood and lightning.

I reached my room.

I shut the door.

Then I walked to the laid down on the bed, my eyes staring at white ceiling.

My chest rose and fell like something evil lurked around the corner.

Then my eyes shifted.

Something white lay on the bed.

A folded paper. A note.
