Chapter 12 DECLERATION OF WAR

Chapter 12 DECLERATION OF WAR
Chapter 12:

Sera's POV

The council hall buzzed with tension thick enough to choke on. Every Alpha in attendance had positioned themselves strategically, allies clustered together, enemies maintaining careful distance, neutrals trying to look invisible.

I swept in with Dante at my side and Asher between us, our combined guard force making a statement impossible to miss. Conversations died mid-sentence. Eyes tracked our movement with predatory calculation.

Good. Let them stare. Let them wonder.

"The Twilight Sovereign and Alpha Dante, arriving together," someone whispered. "With the child."

"Bold move, bringing the boy."

"Or desperate."

I ignored the commentary, moving to our designated seats. Asher climbed into the chair between us, swinging his legs with the oblivious energy of a child who didn't understand he was the center of a political hurricane.

"Mama, why does everyone keep staring?" he asked, not quite whispering.

"Because we're interesting," I said simply.

"Uncle Marcus says interesting is dangerous."

"Uncle Marcus is correct."

Elder Moira struck her staff against the floor, calling for order. The hall gradually quieted, though tension remained razor-sharp.

"This emergency session of the Continental Alpha Council is now convened." Her voice carried formal weight. "We gather to address the motion submitted by the High Council regarding leadership accountability and territorial stability."

Five High Council members sat in elevated seats at the front, the same ones from yesterday's attack. Their expressions were serene, confident. They thought they'd already won.

"The motion is simple," the lead Council member, Elder Theron, began. "Territories that show significant decline over extended periods pose risks to regional stability. We propose that Alphas demonstrating consistent failure be subject to votes of no confidence and potential replacement."

"This is a blatant power grab," Alpha Chen interjected. "The High Council has no authority-"

"We have every authority granted by the Continental Accords," Theron cut him off smoothly. "The same accords every Alpha here has sworn to uphold. Or do you wish to void those agreements?"

Silence. No one wanted to be first to challenge the accords publicly.

"The primary case study," Theron continued, "is the Crimson Fang Territory under Alpha Dante's leadership. Over five years, we've documented crop failures, population decline, infrastructure deterioration, and general territorial weakening."

Murmurs of agreement rippled through the hall. Dante's failures were public knowledge.

"We propose that Alpha Dante be removed from leadership and a Council-approved successor be installed to rehabilitate the territory."

"I have a question," I said clearly, cutting through the rising debate.

All eyes turned to me. Theron's smile was thin and cold.

"The Twilight Sovereign may speak."

I stood slowly, letting power radiate from me in visible waves. "You claim Crimson Fang's decline is due to leadership failure. But you fail to mention why the territory is dying."

"Mismanagement-"

"Rejection." The word cracked like a whip. "The territory is dying because five years ago, Alpha Dante rejected his true Luna and accepted a false mate bond created by your Council."

Shocked gasps. Frantic whispers. Theron's expression flickered just for a moment, but enough.

"That's quite an accusation," he said carefully.

"It's the truth." I let my gaze sweep the assembled Alphas. "The High Council has been manipulating powerful packs for decades. False mate bonds, planted Lunas, orchestrated conflicts, all designed to weaken territories and increase Council control."

"This is absurd-"

"Is it?" Dante stood beside me. "Five years ago, I rejected Sera based on lies the Council fed me. Lies that she was unfaithful, that our bond was weak, that she would destroy my pack. I accepted a mate bond with Lydia that never felt right because it was artificially constructed using Council magic."

The hall erupted. Alphas shouting questions, accusations flying, Moira pounding her staff for order.

"These claims are serious," Moira said once silence was restored. "Do you have proof?"

"I do." Lydia's voice cut through the chaos.

Every head whipped around. My stepsister stood in the doorway, flanked by Lyssa and two guards. She looked terrified but determined.

"Lady Lydia," Theron's voice was dangerously soft. "You were exiled-"

"I was." She moved forward with shaking steps. "But before I left, I thought the Council should hear the truth. About how you recruited me at seventeen. How you taught me to lie and manipulate. How you created a false mate bond and placed me in Crimson Fang specifically to weaken Alpha Dante."

"She's lying to save herself-"

"I have proof." Lydia pulled a small crystal from her pocket, similar to the one that had been planted on Asher, but different. "Communication records. Every conversation I had with Council handlers over five years. Every instruction, every manipulation, every lie I was told to tell."

She threw the crystal onto the council floor. It shattered, and images erupted into the air. magical projections showing conversations, written orders, damning evidence of Council conspiracy.

The hall exploded into chaos.

"ORDER!" Moira's voice carried Alpha Command that forced everyone to silence. "These accusations are severe. The Council will need time to review-"

"There's no time," I cut in. "Because while we've been focused on political theater, the High Council has been planning to kidnap my son."

Gasps. Heads turning to look at Asher, who sat very still between our chairs.

"Yesterday's attack wasn't random," I continued. "It was reconnaissance. They planted tracking magic on Asher, gathered intelligence on our defenses, and planned a secondary extraction during today's vote when attention would be divided."

"Preposterous-" Theron started.

"Is it?" Dante's voice was cold fury. "Explain the dead servant found in my pack house this morning. The one who delivered a poisoned toy meant for my son. The toy saturated with Moonsbane meant to destabilize his power and make him easier to capture."

"We know nothing about-"

"You know everything about it," I snarled. "Because you ordered it. Just like you ordered the false bond. Just like you ordered my family's genocide twenty-five years ago."

Silence crashed over the hall. Absolute. Suffocating.

"The Lunar Lycan purge," Alpha Chen said slowly. "You're claiming the Council-"

"Orchestrated it." I let silver flood my eyes, let my power manifest visibly. "My family was exterminated because we represented a threat to Council control. They hunted every Lunar Lycan heir, murdered entire bloodlines, and erased our history. All to ensure no one could challenge their authority."

"And now?" Theron's mask was slipping, rage bleeding through. "Now you come here with wild accusations and expect-"

"I expect nothing." I moved down from our seats, approaching the Council platform. "I'm simply declaring war."

The words hung in the air like drawn blades.

"War?" Theron laughed, but it sounded forced. "You're declaring war on the High Council?"

"I'm declaring war on corruption." I looked at every Alpha present. "For twenty-five years, the High Council has manipulated us. Weakened strong packs, eliminated threats, controlled who rises and who falls. They've made us believe we need their oversight, their guidance, their permission to rule our own territories."

"We maintain order-"

"You maintain control." Dante joined me, standing shoulder to shoulder. "And I was too blind, too arrogant to see it. But I see it now. The false bond that made me reject my true mate. The deliberate weakening of my territory. The constant interference in pack affairs. You don't maintain order, you create chaos to justify your existence."

"This is treason," another Council member hissed.

"This is truth." I turned to face the assembled Alphas. "Every wolf in this hall has felt Council pressure. Territories mysteriously struggling after refusing Council 'suggestions.' Alphas losing power after challenging Council decisions. Mates torn apart, families destroyed, all in service of keeping us weak and divided."

Murmurs of agreement. Alphas exchanging glances.

"So here's my declaration," I continued. "Aurora Territory no longer recognizes High Council authority. We will govern ourselves, trade freely, and defend our sovereignty against anyone who challenges it."

"You'll be isolated," Theron warned. "No allies, no trade partners-"

"She'll have Crimson Fang," Dante said firmly. "We stand with Aurora. And we also reject Council authority."

"Two territories against the world-"

"Three." Alpha Chen stood. "Eastern Ridge stands with the Twilight Sovereign."

"Four." Another Alpha rose. "If half of what she says is true-"

"It's all true." More Alphas standing, voices joining. "We've all suffered under Council manipulation."

I watched the tide turn. Not everyone....some Alphas remained seated, loyal to the Council or too afraid to break away. But enough. More than enough.

"This is madness," Theron snarled. "You're destroying the order that's kept wolf society stable for generations-"

"That order was built on genocide and lies," I shot back. "And it ends now."

"You think you can challenge us?" Theron's power manifested, crackling in the air. "The Council has resources you can't imagine. Armies, magic, allies in every territory-"

"And I have truth." I let my full Lunar Lycan power manifest. Silver light blazing, filling the hall with radiance that made even the strongest Alphas shield their eyes. "I have justice. And I have wolves tired of living under your thumb."

"Mama!" Asher's voice cut through the tension.
