Chapter 29 A Future Already Written

Chapter 29 A Future Already Written
Magnus’s POV

I hadn’t planned to take Evra out of the castle this morning. But after what happened last night… that plan changed.
She can no longer be treated as something that just needs to be locked away and monitored from a safe distance. Whatever is starting to awaken inside her—and whatever is responding to it—has already gone past that point.
And I’m not taking the risk of leaving her anywhere without being able to keep an eye on her.
“I have an important meeting at the office. You’re coming with me,” I said bluntly, right as her door opened.
“Seriously?” her voice came out flat when I told her that.
She stood near the doorway, arms crossed over her chest, clearly not liking the idea.
“You’re taking me to your office?” she asked again.
“I’m not leaving you here without my own supervision,” I replied shortly.
“That’s not an answer.”
I nodded. “Right. It’s a decision.”
Evra narrowed her eyes. “I’m not part of your pack that has to follow you everywhere you go.”
“I never said you were part of my pack.” I stepped closer. “That’s exactly why… I’m not leaving you alone right now.”
She held my gaze for a few seconds. Looking for an opening. Looking for a reason to refuse.
There wasn’t one.
And she knew it.
“I’m not going to be your display,” she said in the end.
I almost smiled. “You’re too loud to be called a display, Evra.”
She let out a quiet scoff, but didn’t argue anymore. And that was enough.

The Rivenhall Dominion building stood in the center of Rivenhall city. Evra didn’t say much after we arrived. But I could feel it.
Her attention was sharp. Not just on the wolves around us—but also on something unseen.
Varon noticed it too.
“She’s sensing something here,” he said in my mind.
Of course. This place was built on top of an old energy line. Stable, but not dead. Still, I didn’t explain that to her.
Dareth was already waiting when we walked in. His gaze shifted from me… to Evra.
One second. And that was enough to read the situation and draw his own conclusion.
“The meeting is ready,” he said.
I nodded.
“You brought her,” he added. And that clearly wasn’t a question.
“Yes.”
Dareth didn’t look surprised. But he definitely had questions.
“From now on… she comes with me,” I added.
Dareth glanced at Evra once more before giving a slight nod.
“Understood, Alpha.”

The third-floor meeting room was designed for one purpose: to make sure no one could truly lie inside it. And today, I wanted to see who would try.
The Alpha from Black Hollow Pack was already seated when I walked in. A dark gray expensive suit fit his frame, emphasizing his authority. But when I looked at his face, his expression didn’t match the confidence of his outfit.
He stood as soon as he saw me. Then his gaze stopped. On Evra.
His brow lifted slightly.
“Alpha Rivenhall,” he greeted me.
I sat down without wasting time on unnecessary pleasantries.
Evra didn’t sit beside me. She took a seat behind me. Slightly to the side. A position that wasn’t obvious… but still within my line of sight.
Good. She understood what she needed to do to stay safe.
“Let’s get straight to it,” I said. “You must have come here with a problem.”
That Alpha—Kael Thornridge—smiled faintly.
“And I’m sure you can turn it into a profit.”
“I’m not interested in problems that can’t be paid for well.”
He chuckled.
“Then we’ll get along.”
“Let’s hope so. Because you already know I don’t take on anything that puts me at a loss.”
But before he could respond, his gaze drifted back to Evra. Longer this time.
“I didn’t know you brought a guest.”
I leaned back casually. “Not a guest.”
“Then?”
I said flatly, “My pet.”
Silence hung for a few seconds before Kael laughed. Not a small laugh. But one full of certainty that it was a joke.
“Interesting,” he said. “I didn’t know Alpha Rivenhall had such a sense of humor.”
I glanced at Evra, and she didn’t react. She just looked back at him.
And that… was enough to make Kael’s laughter ease a little. But he still took it as a joke.
“Well then,” he said as he stood slightly, “I hope your pet doesn’t bite.”
He walked toward Evra.
I didn’t stop him. Even Varon just stayed quiet, watching.
“Let him,” he said.
Kael extended his hand. He intended to greet Evra.
“Kael Thornridge.”
Evra didn’t respond immediately. She just looked at his hand for a few seconds before finally taking it.
And I saw her change instantly. Her eyes widened, not blinking at all. Her body froze, stiff.
Varon surged inside me.
“Something’s happening to her.”
I stepped forward halfway. “Evra?”
She didn’t answer. Her hand was still touching Kael’s. But her breathing stopped.
Completely stopped.
Kael frowned, confused. He even struggled to pull his hand away.
“What’s going on? What’s wrong with this woman?”
And after a few seconds, Evra finally pulled her hand back.
Fast.
Like she had been jolted out of something only she could see.
Evra stepped back once. Then again.
Her breath was still held. Her chest wasn’t moving. Her eyes remained open.
Varon growled hard inside me.
“That’s not a normal reaction. I’ve never seen her like this.”
I already knew that.
“Evra.” I tried calling her again.
She still didn’t respond. And then… her breath broke. Like someone finally surfacing after being underwater too long.
“—hah—”
Evra gasped for air. Oxygen rushed in too fast, uneven. Her hands trembled slightly.
Kael now clearly had no idea what had just happened.
“What is going on?”
I didn’t take my eyes off Evra.
“What did you see?” I asked.
Evra looked at me. And what was in her eyes… wasn’t confusion.
It was certainty. Sharp. Unshakable.
She took another breath, trying to steady it, though it still came uneven.
And once she regained a bit of control, Evra spoke in a voice that was far too calm for the situation.
“Your pack…” she said, looking at Kael. “…is going to fall.”
Silence immediately filled the room.
Kael stiffened, while I didn’t move.
And the next second, Kael let out a small laugh.
A reflex. Like he didn’t believe it.
“Excuse me?”
Evra didn’t look away.
“In one week.”
Kael’s smile slowly faded.
“That’s a strange joke,” he said.
Evra shook her head slightly.
“No. It’s not a joke.”
“Is this woman insane?”
Evra ignored him. Instead, she locked eyes with Kael sharply and continued, “And when it happens… not a single one of your pack will be left to save. Including you, Alpha.”
