Chapter 253 The Running Away

Chapter 253 The Running Away
Maeve stopped breathing the moment she saw that man. Her heart stopped. She knew that man. Even with his face hidden behind the mask, she knew him. She knew that if he saw her, he was going to kill her.
“Vespera! What the hell are you…?” Thorin snapped at Vespera, but the very next second, his whole body relaxed. The smell was so close to him. The feeling was so close to him. He could feel a warm aura engulfing him from behind. He could feel the feeling of love enveloping his whole body. He closed his eyes and let the feeling and the smell wash over him.
“Vespera! Were you going to slap…?” shouted Corvin, and he too stopped talking and moving. Both Thorin and Corvin turned at the same time to look at Maeve.
Maeve’s mouth fell open, and her breath got caught in her throat. She looked at Thorin’s eyes and knew that he too had recognised her. She gulped with her mouth open, which was not an easy task. Her feet started working on their own.
“Thorin!” Vespera’s voice turned soft, almost hurt. “She destroyed my shoes and then started calling me names. Take me away from her. She is cruel. Please, let’s just go. I want a drink to drown my sorrows,” a drop of tear dropped down her cheek.
But Thorin was not listening to her. he was busy looking at Maeve. Even with a mask on, he knew it was her. The same eyes, the same lips, but the cheeks were fuller now. Maeve took a step back, another step and step after step, she started moving away from Thorin.
He let go of Vespera’s hand, and as if Maeve was pulling him with her, he almost started moving towards her.
“Thorin! Where are you going?” sobbed Vespera. She urgently looked at her friend. Her friend handed her a small packet. Vespera hid it and made sure that the moment she handed a drink to Thorin, it would be laced with the drug in that packet. “I am making you mine today,” thought Vespera through gritted teeth.
But Maeve had increased her distance from Thorin. She lifted her dress and almost sprinted away. Where she was going, she had no idea. She just wanted to run away. “STOP!!!” roared Thorin. He let his alpha power wash over everyone, and everyone froze in their position. The wave was so heavy that every single person in the party, be it human or a wolf, fell down to their knees. “No one will move without my say-so!” ordered Thorin, and ran behind Maeve.
He was not letting her get away this time. Nor was he letting anyone disturb him. he didn’t want anyone else to come after him. He had to talk to the girl who broke his heart and ran away. Thorin lifted his hand and this time tried his real power. For a second, he forgot that his power didn’t work near her.
“Ughh!! I am an idiot! Fine! Super speed it is!”
Maeve kept running and running, turning corners left and right. She thought if she could run faster, maybe Thorin would not be able to come after her. How wrong was she? Her dress kept giving her problems. The heavy, full skirt of the dress made it difficult for her to run. The layers and layers of fabric kept slipping from her grip and then landed on her shoes. She stumbled a few times, but her need to run away was greater than that.
Breathing heavily, glancing back again and again, she thought she had left Thorin far behind, but suddenly she felt a gust of wind behind her, and she was floating in the air. “What?” asked Maeve, unable to understand what had happened to her.
Thorin ran like the wind and caught up to Maeve. Her scent made him run even faster. The moment he saw her, he smirked in happiness. “Want to run? Let’s see how you run now!” He went close to her, and before Maeve could understand anything, he scooped her up in his arms and ran inside the first door he saw.
He knew no one was following him, no one was coming to disturb him, so he didn’t even bother to close the door. He took her inside the room and stopped when he reached the end of the room. He placed her on the ground and softly shoved her against the wall. He stood before her with his hands placed on her shoulders, caging her in with his body, keeping her in place.
They were both breathing heavily. Maeve was breathing fast in fear for her life and Valeska’s life. Thorin was breathing heavily as his heart was ready to jump out of his chest. Maeve's presence always soothed him, but this time his heart was doing somersaults in happiness. He had finally found his Eve. He just had to make sure after seeing her face. Although, he was sure that the woman standing before him was his Eve. She had the same smell, same aura, same eyes, same lips.
Maeve had lost her voice. She wanted to shout at him, snap at him for betraying her, but she knew she had to play safe. She had to act as if she didn’t know him. That was the only way he would believe that she listened to his advice and stop chasing him, stop telling people that she knew Thorin. She remembered what Alaric told her that day. She was never giving Thorin another chance to hurt her.
Thorin had her pinned to the wall. He could see her chest falling and rising in a fast rhythm. He looked at her face; the elegant mask had half her face hidden, but he could see the eyes. he knew those eyes. he lifted one hand and slowly moved his hand behind her head. One pull on the string and the mask loosened. Thorin grabbed the mask, and his hand shook with anticipation. The moment he removed the mask, his heart jumped out of his chest. He found his heart. She was standing before him.
“It’s you! It’s you!” his breath shuddered. “I… I fou… I found… It’s you!” Thorin was on the verge of crying. The girl he had been searching for was finally standing before him, enclosed within his tall stature.
Maeve closed her eyes and, after gathering a little courage, she snapped at him. “What the hell are you doing? Who are you? Why did you bring me here? Let me go!!”
“What!!??” Thorin was shocked beyond his comprehension.
“Let me go!” Maeve lifted her hand and tried to push him away, but Thorin didn’t even budge. She could feel his firm chest muscles under his princely clothes. He looked so good.
Thorin removed his own mask and asked, “What are you talking about? It’s me!”
“Who? I don’t…” Maeve started speaking, but Thorin had had enough. He had waited to find her for years. Her lips were moving just like last time, and it was impossible for him to keep his control.
