Secrets and surrender
Talon
My eyes narrowing as silence thickened between us. Anthena shifted, glancing uneasily at the closed door behind her, clearly unsettled.
“Anthena,” I murmured, my voice dropping to a near whisper, “do you have any idea what you’ve just walked into?”
Her gaze darted up to meet mine, confusion flickering across her face. She opened her mouth, as if to speak, then closed it, unable to hide a faint tremor of uncertainty.
I leaned in closer, my breath brushing against her ear. “Because whatever secrets you’re keeping…” I let the words linger, heavy and ominous, “they’re about to come out. Every last one.”
Her face blanched, her steps faltering as she instinctively backed away, but I blocked her path, my eyes sharp and unrelenting.
“Now,” I said softly, my tone laced with dark intent, “tell me the truth. Or I’ll make sure you regret ever stepping foot in this office.”
Anthena’s gaze met mine, but instead of fear, I saw a spark of defiance beneath her confusion. “Sir,” she replied, her voice steady but edged with frustration, “could you speak plainly? Because right now, I have no idea what you're accusing me of.”
I held her gaze, assessing her. She was a perfect picture of confusion, as if she truly didn’t know what I was talking about. But that, too, could be an act. "Fine," I said finally, my tone sharp and unrelenting. “Who sent you here? My rivals? My enemies?”
Her brow furrowed as she raised her hands in protest. “No one sent me. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
I studied her closely, unwilling to let the tension break. "But you’ve been acting suspicious."
Her eyes flashed with anger, and she stood up straighter. “Suspicious? How?” Her voice rose, edged with frustration. “I won’t stand here and let you accuse me of something I know nothing about. If you'll excuse me, I have work to get back to.”
Before I could respond, she turned on her heel and walked out, her every step laced with indignation. I watched her go, my mind whirling. Could she truly be innocent? Or was she just that good at hiding her intentions? Either way, I’d need to keep a close eye on her.
I sat back, my thoughts tangled between the day's tasks—the packs, the elders, the board—and the sudden, unanticipated presence of Anthena Wellington. The woman who, for reasons still beyond my understanding, was fated to be my mate.
Just then, a sharp knock interrupted my thoughts. I glanced up as Evans entered, a look of mild unease on his face.
"Sir, we found nothing on Anthena,” he said, his voice cautious.
"Keeping searching," I ordered.
Third person POV
Cassie slumped against the leather booth in the dim, amber glow of the private bar, her gaze fixed on the empty glass before her. The ache in her chest throbbed with disappointment and simmering anger. All her ambitions, her carefully laid plans—shattered. She cursed herself for pushing too hard, for letting her fear of her fated mate cloud her judgment. And now, it was over.
"Another," she signaled to the bartender, watching as the liquid filled her glass. She hoped for even a hint of drunken relief, but her body processed it too quickly. She would have to stay painfully sober tonight, it seemed.
She’d just taken a sip when her attention snapped to the figure entering the bar—a familiar, effortless stride, the casual confidence in every movement. Kelsey. Her fated mate.
She tensed as he approached, settling beside her with a smile that made her heart skip, despite herself. “Hey, mate,” he said softly, his voice warm and low. The word sent a small jolt through her, but she fought to keep her expression neutral.
“Hey,” she replied, her tone clipped as she poured herself another drink. Without missing a beat, Kelsey took the bottle from her hand, pouring her drink himself.
“It’s not right for someone as beautiful as you to pour her own drink,” he said, his gaze soft yet piercing.
Cassie’s face softened, her walls threatening to crumble. She barely knew him, yet he seemed to see straight through her. “Thanks,” she murmured, downing her drink in one gulp.
He reached out, catching her wrist gently as she reached for the bottle again. “Take it slow,” he advised, his tone laced with a quiet concern. It almost felt real.
But Cassie knew better. She’d seen enough to know everyone had motives, especially this man, who’d only just stumbled into her life. With a scowl, she pulled her wrist away. “What do you want?” she snapped, barely hiding the irritation simmering beneath her calm exterior. “I’m not going to just accept this ‘fated mates’ nonsense.”
She slammed her tab onto the counter and rose abruptly, intending to storm out, but Kelsey followed, catching up with her outside. The night was thick with mist, cloaking them in a heavy silence.
“Cassie,” he called, his voice soft yet unyielding. He took her arm, his grip firm but gentle. “I’m not asking you to accept it. I don’t believe in ‘fated’ anything either. But I do think we can be friends.”
The tenderness in his voice threw her off balance, and she felt her anger drain slightly. She didn’t answer, but when he offered to drive her home, she surprised herself by nodding. She climbed into his car, the air thick with an unspoken tension as they rode in silence, both stealing glances.
When they finally arrived, she hesitated. “Thanks for the ride,” she murmured, managing a small, reluctant smile.
“Anytime, beautiful,” he replied, his tone sincere. The word lingered in her mind, its warmth filling a hollow space she hadn’t realized was there. It was the first time anyone had spoken to her so genuinely, and she couldn't deny how good it felt. In all three years with Talon, he had never called her sweet names or offered to drive her home.
She turned to go, but as she reached her front door, she glanced back and found him still waiting, watching her with an unguarded, gentle expression that made her heart lurch.
“Hey,” she called softly, walking back toward him. “Would you like to come in for a drink?”
A slow smile spread across his face as he nodded, following her inside. Once there, the silence settled around them again, heavy and charged. She poured him a drink, their hands brushing as she handed it over. The light touch sent sparks skittering up her spine, and before she knew it, they were inches apart, their breaths mingling in the quiet room.
They didn’t need words. His lips found hers, tentative at first, then deepening with each second, each kiss a careful exploration, a test of boundaries and desire. She felt her body respond, every nerve alive under his touch. His hands slid down her waist, pulling her closer, their connection overwhelming, eclipsing any lingering doubts.
Cassie was dripping with wetness underneath while Kelsey length keeps getting harder.
"Ouch," a soft moan escaped Cassie's lips, yearning for more. Kelsey wanted to take it further. He grabbed her ass, squeezing it gently while she dipped her hands in his pants, grabbing his balls and squeezing it a little hard as he gave out the most pleasure filled moans.
Moments later, they were in her bedroom, stripping off their clothes as they went. The intensity built, each kiss, each touch stoking the fire between them until it consumed every rational thought. His mouth moved over her skin, and she gasped, arching into him, her mind lost to sensation as they fell together onto the bed.
There, Kelsey fondle her breasts and sucked it. Every of the touch sending sparkles through Cassie. Eventually, he thrust into her.
"Ouch," she winced in pain and pleasure.
"You're so fucking adorable," he groaned in a raspy and pleasure filled voice. He began riding her gently and delicately. Then Kelsey increased the intensity. He fucked her hard, recklessly and wildly. Every thrust pleasurable. Every moan increasing the intensity.
Cassie had never felt anything like it, this raw, electric connection. With every kiss, every touch, it felt as if he was claiming a part of her she didn’t even know was there. Their bodies moved together, a perfect rhythm, pushing each other toward a crescendo neither could resist.
Cassie didn’t regret it for a moment—in fact, she found herself craving more.
