Chapter 37

Chapter 37
HARLEY

Without a word, Shane leaned forward, his eyes locking onto mine, searching for any trace of doubt. But I held his gaze, my heart pounding with anticipation, a strange calm washing over me as I accepted what was unfolding between us.

Slowly, he lifted his hand, his fingers brushing softly along my cheek, a touch that sent a shiver down my spine. His face moved closer, his warm breath mingling with mine, and in that instant, the world narrowed to just us. Without another pause, he closed the distance, his lips pressing against mine, gentle at first, as if testing the boundaries of our newfound bond.

But then something shifted—something deeper, more powerful—and the kiss grew urgent, both of us drawn into an instinct we didn’t fully understand. I felt warmth bloom in my chest, spreading out, connecting us like an unbreakable thread.

My hands found their way to his shoulders, gripping him as though he were the only anchor in a swirling sea. I could feel his heart pounding in time with mine, the intensity of the moment pulling us even closer.

It was as if with that kiss, I could feel his very soul—the strength he carried, the protectiveness that wrapped around me like a shield, and the vulnerability he kept hidden beneath the surface. A sense of calm, almost a hum, flowed through me, like an energy connecting us.

When we finally pulled back, breathless, Shane’s eyes were darker, intense, and filled with something deeper than I could put into words. His hand lingered on my cheek, his thumb brushing across my skin as if reassuring himself I was real.

“I don’t know what to say,” I whispered, my voice shaky but filled with wonder. “I… I can feel it. I feel you, like you’re a part of me now.”

He gave a slight nod, a faint smile pulling at his lips. “It’s the wolf bond,” he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. “When I claimed you, it completed something inside me. You are… you’re everything, Harley.”

The words resonated within me, settling in places I hadn’t even known were empty. I felt a sudden, overwhelming warmth for this man who had stepped into my life so unexpectedly, bringing with him both mystery and a sense of belonging I hadn’t known I craved.

“How long have you known?” I asked softly, my fingers tracing along his jaw, memorizing the feel of him, this strange familiarity.

“Since the moment I saw you,” he said, a gentle fierceness in his voice. “Everything in me knew, Harley. Every instinct, every fiber… it’s all been drawn to you. It’s why I couldn’t stay away, even when I knew it would confuse you, even when you didn’t believe me.”

A soft smile tugged at my lips as I remembered my disbelief, how I’d dismissed him as something strange, a puzzle I couldn’t solve. Now, knowing what he was, it felt as if the missing pieces of my own life were finally falling into place.

“I thought you were just… intense,” I admitted, laughing softly. “But now… it’s like I finally see you, really see you.”

He chuckled, a sound that was both warm and grounding. “I know it’s a lot to take in. But, Harley, I promise I’ll be by your side through it all. I’ll protect you with everything I am.”

A silence fell between us, comfortable and charged. We stayed close, our hands lingering, fingers entwined as if neither of us wanted to break the contact. I felt a warmth pooling inside me, a certainty that I had found someone who would stand by me, no matter what came next.

Then, without warning, the door creaked open. I pulled back quickly, feeling the rush of reality return, and looked up to see the old woman standing there, her eyebrow arched, a knowing smile on her lips.

“Well, I see the bond has been made,” she said, her voice light with amusement. “It’s good to know my efforts haven’t been in vain.”

Shane cleared his throat, sitting back slightly, though his hand still held mine tightly, as if unwilling to let go. I felt my cheeks warm, but I met her gaze with a newfound strength.

“Yes,” I said, my voice steadier than I felt. “Thank you… for everything. I don’t know how to repay you.”

The old woman waved her hand, her smile softening. “No repayment is needed, child. This was always meant to be. Now, go on. You both have much to face, and you’ll need each other’s strength to get through it.”

With a final nod, she turned and left, leaving Shane and me in silence once more. I looked back at him, feeling the weight of what had just happened, but for the first time, I didn’t feel alone. I felt ready.
