Chapter 62 King Of Rogues

Chapter 62 King Of Rogues
LAURA
My knees buckled, and I sank into the nearest chair, my hands shaking so badly. My entire body shook, and I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to steady the tremors. Mack rushed to the seat next to me, her eyes filled with worry. "Who was that?" she asked, her eyes darting around the hospital hallway, as if she expected someone to jump out of the shadows. "Blade," I said simply clenching my jaw. Her eyes widened, and I saw the realization hit her. "Blade?" she whispered, leaning closer. "He gave you the poison, didn’t he?" I nodded, my breath hitching. Mackenzie ran a hand through her hair, looking at me in disbelief. "I knew it," she muttered, angrily. "I knew Blade was never to be trusted. The moment I saw him talking to Sarah, I had a bad feeling. I told you, Laura. I told you he was trouble." I stayed silent, my head bowed. Her words weren’t meant to hurt, but they stung nonetheless. She leaned closer, her voice lower as she asked "Why is he doing all this? What is his motive?" Her eyes searched mine. "I don’t know," I said, shaking my head. "None of this makes sense anymore, Mack. Nothing. Only Blade can give me the answer." She sighed and leaned back in her chair, her hand tugging at her hair again. "This is so messed up," she said, almost to herself. “What are you going to do?” she asked softly. “Blade’s not going to tell you anything, Laura. You know that.” I nodded again, my mind spinning. “I have to know what happened that day, Mack. I have to.” She was quiet for a moment and I knew she was thinking. “Maybe someone else can” she said looking at me. “Who?” I asked “Sarah.” "Sarah?" I repeated, staring at her like she’d lost her mind. "You think Sarah will help me? Are you serious, Mack?" "Yes," she said firmly. "We need to talk to Sarah. She’s the only one who might know what Blade’s up to." "Mack, Hello" I said hesitantly, "Sarah and I… we don’t exactly get along." "I know," she said, placing a hand on my knee. I opened my mouth to argue, but I stopped. Mack was right. If anyone had answers, it would be Sarah. But the thought of talking to her made my stomach churn and I knew she wouldn’t help me. Mack, you can’t be serious. Sarah would never help me. She hates me!” Mack shook her head firmly. “She might not like you, but she doesn’t want Julian dead. Think about it, Laura. Who does Sarah love the most?” I rolled my eyes. “Herself.” Mack cracked a small, humorless smile. “True. But aside from herself, she loves Julian. You know she does. She’s been obsessed with him for years. If you approach her the right way, she might help. Especially if we can give her something she wants in return.” I shook my head, unsure. I didn’t like the idea of going to Sarah for help. “Mack, I don’t think she’d ever help me. Even if she cared about Julian, she’d probably just use this to hurt me.” Mack leaned forward, gripping my arm. “Listen to me, Laura. We don’t have many options. Blade won’t tell you the truth, and the longer we wait, the worse things could get. Sarah might be our only shot.” I knew Mack was right, but the thought of trusting Sarah felt like jumping into shark-infested waters. “what if she makes things worse? What if she lies?” I asked “Then we’ll deal with it,” Mack said firmly. “But we have to try. If we can convince her, maybe she’ll tell us what she knows. And if not…” She trailed off, “We’ll figure something else out.” I took a deep breath, “Okay,” I said finally. “I’ll do it. I agreed but I was still in doubt. Could Sarah really help? Or was I walking into another trap? I didn’t know. But I had no choice but to try. The doctor walked out of the room at that moment, looking calm but serious. I ran to him, my heart pounding in my chest. “Doctor, how is he?” I asked breathlessly. He gave me a small reassuring smile. “He is out of danger,” he said. “A large concentration of poison was found in his system, but it hadn’t reached his chest yet. We managed to flush most of it out in time.” I let out a shaky breath. Behind me, I heard Mackenzie exhale deeply as well. “He’s stable now,” the doctor continued. “He’s sleeping it off and should wake up soon. He’ll be weak for a while, but he’s going to be okay.” “Thank you,” I said simply. The doctor nodded and walked away. I turned to Mack, who gave me a small, tight smile. Before either of us could speak, I hear someone call my name. “Laura!” James called coming up to me his face looking worried. “I called him,” Mack said shrugging. I nodded, grateful for her foresight. “James,” I said, turning to him. “Can you stay with Julian for a bit? Mack and I need to take care of something.” He looked between the two of us, waiting for an explanation. What’s going on? What happened to Julian?” “There’s no time to explain right now,” Mack cut in, already tugging me toward the exit. “Just stay with him, okay? We’ll be back soon.” James hesitated, but he nodded. “Alright. Just… be careful.” Mackenzie and I rushed out of the hospital, we reached the castle in record time, my heart racing for reasons that had nothing to do with the drive. As we pulled up, I saw Sarah about to leave. “Sarah!” I called out, stepping out of the car. She turned at the sound of my voice, her face instantly twisting into a scowl. The hatred in her eyes was so intense and she looked at me like I was a worm. “What do you want, Laura?” she snapped. Mack and I hurried up to her, and I forced myself to stay calm. “We need to ask you something,” I said quickly. Sarah rolled her eyes, crossing her arms. “Why would I tell you anything?” “Because it’s important,” Mack added, her tone firm. “What is Blade’s motive, why is he causing all this problems?” I asked Sarah scoffed and turned to leave. “I have nothing to say to either of you.” “Blade wants to kill Julian,” I blurted out, my voice loud enough to stop her in her tracks. She froze mid-step, her back still to us. Slowly, she turned around, her eyes narrowing as they locked onto mine. “What did you just say?” she asked, her voice sharp. I took a deep breath. “Blade wants Julian dead,” I repeated. For a moment, Sarah said nothing, her expression unreadable. Then, with a faint smirk, she took a step closer. “You’re lying,” she said, though her voice lacked conviction. “I’m not,” I said firmly. “He is angry that the throne was not given to his father by their grandfather; and that’s why he has been causing all this troubles. If you can help then we’d help Julian and get the whole truth.” I explained “And if you care about Julian at all, you’ll help us” Mack added Sarah stared at me, her lips pressing into a thin line. She seemed to be weighing her options, her eyes flicking between Mack and me. "Fine," Sarah said finally, her voice clipped. Mackenzie and I exchanged glances, waiting for her to continue. “Blade is the king of rogues,” she said, her lips curling slightly as though amused by our shock. I couldn’t hide the surprise on my face. King of rogues? Blade? How had I not known this before? Mackenzie was the first to recover. “Where is he?” she asked, her voice low and urgent. Sarah’s smirk deepened. “There’s only one place you’ll find him. Sin City.” “Sin City?” Mack repeated, her brow furrowing. “The rogue club?” Sarah nodded. “That’s the one.” I stared at her, trying to process everything. “Thank you,” I said after a moment. Sarah shrugged, turning to leave. “Don’t thank me. I only told you because of Julian. And hopefully you might not make it back alive.” She added before waking off. I turned to Mack who was watching Sarah angrily. “We need to go to Sin City. Immediately.” Mack’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Are you insane? You can’t go in there alone! Blade would never let you leave alive!” “It doesn’t matter,” I said firmly. “I’m sick, Mack. I’m already dying. Why should I be scared of rogues? It doesn’t matter if I die in the hands of rogues or by this sickness, I’m dying either ways. Right now all I want is the truth.” She looked at me a sad expression on her face. “Laura, don’t say that,” she murmured. She hesitated, then added, “At least let me call James. He can assign guards to come with us.” I nodded, realizing she was right. “Fine. Call James,” I said. Just as Mackenzie reached for her phone, it rang, buzzing loudly in her hand. She glanced down at the screen. “It’s James,” she said, answering the call immediately. “James,” she said into the phone, I leaned closer, listening The hospital has been attacked,” James said, his voice grim. “What?” Mackenzie gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. Before I could react, a piercing scream echoed through the castle halls, followed by the unmistakable sound of glass shattering. My stomach dropped as chaos erupted around us. Footsteps thundered, voices yelled, and somewhere in the distance, someone shouted “We need reinforcements!”
