Chapter 169: I Was Never Yours

Chapter 169: I Was Never Yours
Dana’s POV

The way Zade kept emphasizing that Damian was living his life would have been very funny, if only it didn’t make my blood boil with so much rage.

I stood there, arms folded, watching him pace and rant, his voice echoing around the building as he exchanged sharp words with Marcus. Every sentence he spoke sounded rehearsed, like a record lines he had played so many times that he had started believing his own lies.

I couldn’t take it anymore.

I stepped forward, closing the distance between us.

“Zade, what exactly is your problem?” I asked, staring straight into his eyes.

The effect was instant.

He stopped mid sentence, his mouth hanging open slightly as though he had suddenly forgotten the words he was about to say. For a moment, the mighty Zade, who thrived on control and fear, looked completely caught off guard.

“Yes, Zade,” I continued, nodding slowly. “You heard me correctly, what exactly is your problem?”

His shock melted into anger.

“Dana,” he snapped, his voice dropping dangerously low. “You better watch your mouth, because you’re in my territory.”

I laughed.

A dry, mocking laugh I couldn’t hold back even if I tried.

“Oh my goodness,” I said dramatically, holding onto my chest. “Should I run and hide because I’m in your territory?”

“Dana!!” he barked, pointing at me.

“Forgive me, Zade,” I said sweetly, tilting my head. “But when you say Damian is living your life, where exactly did you leave your life that someone else picked it up and started living it for you?”

Marcus sucked in a sharp breath behind me.

Zade’s face darkened.

“I won’t warn you again Dana,” he screamed, stepping closer. “Watch your mouth.”

“If I should watch my mouth,” I replied calmly, “then you should be mindful of the statements that proceeds out from your mouth. Damian is living his life, and you’re living yours. Whatever fantasy you have created in your head should be discarded.”

“Never!!” Zade roared.

He closed the remaining distance between us, towering over me. “Never, Dana. That boy took everything that was destined to be mine. I won’t stop telling the world that he’s living my life.”

My heart pounded painfully, but I refused to step back.

Zade’s lips curved into a cold smile.

“Look at you,” he said softly. “You were meant to be mine. But Damian took you away from me, my love.”

Before I could react, he grabbed my hand.

The contact sent a wave of fury through me.

I slapped his hand away sharply. “Don’t you ever touch me again Zade.” I said angrily.

The room fell silent.

“Damian took nothing from you,” I continued, my voice shaking with restrained anger. “And since your memory seems selective, let me remind you, have you forgotten how you rejected me? How you disgraced me in front of everyone? Was that Damian’s advice?”

Zade said nothing.

I stepped closer, refusing to let him look away.

“I was fated to you,” I said, my chest tightening. “And instead of standing up to your fears and insecurities, you chose humiliation. You should be grateful to the Moon Goddess for even pairing a Beta like you with an Alpha Queen. But you destroyed it. Maybe that was the only way you and your family would have been known, but you destroyed it, because your father never wanted anyone to take control of your life.”

“Watch your words, Dana,” Zade cut in bitterly.

I laughed softly. “Really?”

“Don’t you dare talk about my father like that!” he shouted.

“And why shouldn’t I?” I snapped, planting my hands on my waist. “Both you and your father are monsters. And trust me, you’ll both end up exactly where people like you belong.”

Marcus shifted uncomfortably.

“Marcus,” Zade said sharply, turning to him. “Did you bring her here to insult me?”

“NNnnoooo,” Marcus stammered quickly. “That’s not why we’re here. We came for Damian. Release him, and we’ll leave peacefully Zade.”

Zade burst into laughter.

A loud, mocking laugh that echoed around us.

“Damian is going to die today,” he said coldly. “And not even Dana’s big mouth can stop it. My mind is made up.”

My breath hitched.

“What do you mean by my big mouth?” I snapped. “And what do you mean Damian is going to die?”

Alex finally spoke, his voice tight with barely contained rage. “What are you planning, Zade?”

Zade ignored him.

He walked back to the block he had been sitting on and leaned against it lazily, a cruel grin spreading across his face.

“Dana,” he said slowly, “who thinks she’s living a perfect life.”

I said nothing just stared at him.

“Cursing my father,” he continued, “when her own father isn’t any better.”

I stiffened.

“What do you mean by that?” I demanded.

“Oh yes, Dana,” Zade said mockingly. “Your dear father knew about your magic and power all along. That’s why he kept you away from people. That’s why he controlled your life.”

“What?” I shouted.

“Yes, pretty damsel,” he laughed. “Your life isn’t a bed of roses. Your father is no different from mine.”

“No,” I said, shaking my head. “My father is nothing like yours. Your father is the very definition of a monster.”

“Accepted,” Zade said, clapping slowly. “Bravo.”

His smile widened.

“But I think you’ve all overstayed your welcome. It’s time you leave.”

“Release Damian,” I said firmly. “And we go in peace.”

“Then you’re not ready,” Zade replied, turning away.

Before anyone could stop him....

Alex’s fist flew.

The sound of the blow echoed through the room as it connected with Zade’s face.

“Ouch!” I gasped, clapping my hands over my mouth.

Everything happened so fast.

Before we could stop Alex, his fist had already connected with Zade’s face.

Zade hadn’t seen it coming. He crashed to the floor, clutching his cheek as he stared up at Alex with pure disgust burning in his eyes.

“You monster!” Alex shouted. “Release Damian, or take us to where you’re holding him. If you don’t, you won’t like what happens next.”

I rushed forward, grabbing Alex’s arm, trying to pull him back. Zade’s men were already moving, stepping closer, ready to defend their boss at a single command.

Zade smirked.

He staggered to his feet and lifted a hand, silently signaling his men to stand down.

When he finally regained his composure, he wiped the corner of his mouth and laughed softly.

“So you want a fight?” he said, his grin dark and dangerous. “Then a fight is exactly what you’ll get.”

I was shocked at Zade's statement, we want Damian back, but we definitely don't want fight.

But Alex already provoked Zade.
