21. wolf bane.
Oliver’s POV
I gritted my teeth as pain shot through my veins, I looked at the werewolf that had been the cause of my pain, he had used his sword to pierce through my stomach— we were at war, we had been attacked at a pack meeting.
Everything happened in a blur, I was on stage addressing them the next minute a war broke out but there was something weird about these rouges, immediately they were killed and decapitated and there were many of them.
“I think I have gotten the last of them,” the leader warrior of the pack said out loud.
Eric rushed to my side “Are you okay, their sword had been laced with wolf bane”
Damn those rouges, no wonder it was taking a lot of time to heal along with the burn flowing through my veins, igniting the fire that was burning throughout my body.
“I will be fine, I just need to rest through it” I groaned as another wave of pain shot through my body, be it a normal werewolf or a low-ranking one we would have been hosting a memorial.
He shot me a look of disbelief “Did you hear what I just said, wolf bane was in the sword you got pierced with”
“I know, I heard you. See you tomorrow. I don’t have the physical strength for this” I headed to my car.
“At least let me drive you” he offered—and risked him knowing about Freya—No.
“I am an alpha Eric, do you think this is enough to end me?” I asked, he shook his head.
“But you are bleeding and your blood is black”
“Black?” In alarm I looked down on my stomach. I was applying pressure with my palm, he was right, my blood was indeed turning black.
He nodded his head” You should probably see the pack doctor before you head out” he advised
“Like I said Eric, I will be fine” I spoke through my torrent of pain—even I had a doubt I wouldn’t come out of this unscarred, but no need to raise his fear high right?
“I doubt that,” he muttered.
“Take the sample of the blood on the floor, take it to the pack lab, and check it out, I don’t think we are dealing with normal rouges,” I thought about it for a second “I will be back tomorrow then we will sort this out” I walked fast to my car and entered inside.
I would have to let go of my stomach if I wanted to drive—shit.
I pulled over a few meters from the house, and my head felt light weighted as a black dot dotted my vision—it was a hard effort to stay awake, but I wasn’t going to give up here on the road and become a meal to other animals, I needed my wolf to take control of not I was going to die here—my wolf was also injured, I could feel it. His energy was dulling with every passing second.
I needed to get out of here, it felt like the car wall was closing in on me, but I couldn’t stand without giving out.
She was my last option, I picked up my phone and dialed her number—she was going to ask questions but I didn't care. The need to live was stronger than the fear she would find out what I am and be scared of me—just like the last time.
“Hello?” her soft voice rang through my voice and sent a pang of pain through my head “I have been worried sick, where have you been?” She asked worriedly.
“Freya, listen to me” I groaned, passing the phone to my other ear since I couldn’t feel the hand that was applying pressure to my wound. “I need you to come get me a few meters away from the mansion and for crying out loud, hurry.”
“Are you hurt?” she asked frantically.
“Yes Freya, I think I am about to die” I Moaned, the pain getting hard to bear.
A few minutes later, someone knocked on my glass, unlocking the door Freya opened it gasping in surprise.
“What happened to you? How did you get hurt?” She looked at me with wild eyes. Searching for any other kind of injury.
“As you can see I am not in a state to answer those questions you are choking me with” I looked at her through hooded eyes laced with pain “ I called you here to help not just stand there” I clenched my face, watching how her once confused expression broke into a scowl.
“I see being at the point of death didn’t let you lose your asshole ways”
I ignored her, she placed her hand under my arms—I leaned on her supporting my weak body with hers.
“Don’t you think you should drive, won’t that be faster and better?” I raised a brow at her which later turned into a grimace.
“Well, except you want us to crash and the number of injuries you have right now will increase. We better walk” she declared.
“You can’t drive?” I laughed which sounded like a wheeze, my throat was turning dry.
“Are you alright?” she quickly caught me as I was about to fall.
“Just a little bit dizzy, let’s hurry up” I tried with all I could read the offer, walking at a pace I thought was going to work out my body by the time the nights ended.
She pushed the gate open—walking inside slowly.
I sighed in relief as my back hit the cold mattress
“What can I do to make you better, let us head to the hospital,” she suggested, panic painted across her face.
“No hospital please” I muttered, they would probably be shocked at the rate at which my heart was beating—we were not their average humans.
“Oliver, your blood is black yet you don’t wanna go to the hospital?”
“I can’t be at the hospital” I murmured weakly, my voice slipping away gradually —I gave in to darkness and it welcomed me whole.
