Chapter 83 83
Chapter 83 83
Lucianna’s POV
Roscoe came and as soon as he get off his car, we exchanged a look that lasts for almost a minute. There was a lot in our eye language and it’s more like him saying ‘I told you so,’ and mine were ‘We’re in this situation so fucking try and talk with your mate’s body’. I saw his shoulder sagged as he sighed but headed to where Fhoxia was as if he read my mind.
I really hope Roscoe can get something, anything, from Fhoxia. He does before, he still felt the bond between him and his mate’s body that the messenger borrowed. So I hoped, keep on hoping, there’s nothing I could do anyway.
“He’s been there for how long?” Harley asked behind me.
Time has reached a spot on top of my list that I prioritized to forget, so I just shrugged Harley’s question. Now watching Roscoe has made me feel dreaded in the guts so I decided to head inside and sit on the couch. Harley lingered longer by the porch, watching my brother-in-law like a hawk.
I don’t know if I feel excited or anxious with the outcome of Roscoe’s conversation with Fhoxia. If they are having any.
“Got something?” I heard Harley asked that made me jump up from my seat and headed to the door. Roscoe was walking towards the house now, catching my gaze, and my world shuttered when he slowly shook his head.
I head inside Jacob’s room quietly so I wouldn’t bother his sleep, my heart heavier than I felt for months.
Later that night, I called Ashira, feeling like I needed someone I know to know what I’ve been going through.
“You don’t tell me anything anymore, Luce! I hate you!”
I scratched my ears from Ashira’s nagging. She continued blabbering about how I don’t give a shit about our friendship but I just let her whine. I knew I come short of my role as her best friend.
“How’s Quillon?” I bit my lip, praying she took my bait and let go of the long-ass sermon about my shortcomings, she might not let it go just yet.
“Don’t try to change the subject!” Okay, she really won’t let this go. There was muffled talking in her background. “Aiden said we’re coming over. I’m not done with you, girl! I’ll hang up now.”
“I--” and she did hung up. I sighed.
Wondering if Jacob would like some company, I realized I didn’t asked his side if its alright to tell our situation to others. Not like Ash was others, but still. I sighed again. There’s nothing I could do now, they are coming over anyway.
“What’s bothering you?” Jacob asked when I stayed at the doorframe of our bedroom, biting my lips continuosly. “And no lying, baby.”
I exhaled and walked to the bed, to him. “Aiden and Ashira is coming over.” I studied his expression but he didn’t even flinched an emotion. “I’m sorry?”
“You don’t sound sorry, Lucianna.” then he smirked, that weak unfamiliar smirk. “It’s fine, they will know sooner or later.” then he tapped the space beside him. I obliged and sat next to him.
“Not fine for me, Ashira promised a real ear-beating once she arrived so…” I pouted.
Jacob chuckled. I hated myself for unconsciously grabbing the glass of water on the bedside table, expecting for him to cough next. He didn’t. My grin was sheepish and my cheeks flushed when he raised a brow from my move.
“I almost gave you an ass-beating there, baby.” I chuckled then he urged me closer, kissing the top of my head. “Wait for me to regain my strength, I’m promising you one.”
“Ass-beating…that I would like.” I said, riding his vibe. Oh, how I wish for him to be better.
“You would, for sure.” he confirmed then bit his lower lip, not taking his intense gaze away from me. If he wasn’t in that state, I’m surely straddling his lap by now. And how foolish of me to really entertain the idea of getting hot with a patient. I must be out of my mind.
Who am I kidding? If he is fine, he would have jumped me by now.
My, my, this must be the pregnancy hormones talking.
“I should prepare the guestroom. They must be staying over for a while.” I said, trying to change the atmosphere. Jacob gave me a knowing smile, he must’ve caught on what I was trying to do but he only nodded his head and looked out the window with a smile.
I stood and looked at him when I reached the door. There was something new with how he looked from where I was. He looked so peaceful.
And it scares me.
“Ohmygod! You’re with a pup!” Ashira exclaimed as she strode fast towards me. I was waiting for their arrival since the guards in the border asked for their permission to enter the pack premises. It feels good to know someone I knew is coming. “You’re with a pup!”
I rubbed my hand in my belly, letting it show more. “I am.”
"You!" Her nostrils flared as she narrowed her eyes. I knew exactly what was running through her mind—I'd never even mentioned my pregnancy, and she was going to kill me.
"I'm so happy for you!" she suddenly beamed, pulling me into a tight hug.
"Oh." That was the only sound that left my lips. Well, at least I wasn’t going to die today.
"Thank you, Ash," I murmured, chuckling lightly from her reaction. God, I've missed her.
A moment later, I saw Quillon step out of the car, followed by his dad, Aiden, and then Nick.
"Quillon! Wow." I turned to Ashira, my brows raised to show just how shocked I was. "He's big."
She scratched her forehead. "Yeah, well, he grew faster than a normal pup. You know, stealer child and all."
I crinkled my nose. "All that mysterious shit still happening to you?"
Yeah, right. Like it isn’t happening to you, Lucianna.
"Not to me," she sighed and looked at Quillon with sad eyes. I could only imagine how much she wished that stealer nonsense would stay with her—rather than follow her child. Or something. I'd no idea what's up with them lately, anyway.
Quillon smiled at me. He looked so much like his father—this little heartbreaker. He took a step forward, but the moment he reached the spot where Fhoxia came into view, he suddenly froze.
"What's wrong, Kill?" Aiden asked, stopping behind him as well.
"Aiden! I told you not to call him that! I'd kill Seth for real," Ashira snapped, and I'd guess Seth, their gamma, gave the pup its ridiculous nickname then she stomped down my porch toward Quillon. She knelt beside him. "What's wrong, baby?"
She followed his gaze, but I frowned when her expression shifted. Her brows furrowed, her eyes darting around as if looking for something.
She couldn’t see Fhoxia.
I turned to Aiden and Nick next, and their expressions were just as confused.
My eyes locked onto Quillon, and I knew—he was looking right at her. At Fhoxia.
My feet moved on their own as I stepped closer. "You can see her?"
Quillon glanced at me, then back at Fhoxia, nodding slowly.
"What is it?" Aiden asked. "See who, Luce?"
I shot them a look that told them to wait. I needed to talk to Quillon first.
My heart pounded so hard it nearly echoed in my ears. A strange feeling settled over me—instinct, maybe, or something deeper. But one thought kept whispering in the back of my mind.
Help will come.
Jacob’s words burned in the back of my mind. Why do I feel like it has just arrived?
"She’s saying something…"
My eyes widened at Quillon’s words. It had been over a week since Fhoxia first appeared in front of our house, and she had never spoken. Not once.
I turned to Fhoxia. Did she really said something?
I rushed toward her, my steps quickening until I was almost running. There was barely any space left between us as I strained to hear—maybe a whisper, or something even softer.
Nothing.
Footsteps sounded behind me, and I straightened.
Without looking back, I asked, "What did she say?" My voice was steady, but my pulse was anything but.
Quillon answered immediately.
"That at last, someone would hear her," the pup said. His voice was too calm, making me wonder—had he seen Fhoxia before?
"Have you seen her before? Before today?"
"Yeah."
"And you can hear her. How?"
Was this because of Ashira being a stealer, passing on some strange power to her child?
Silence stretched between us. I glanced back and found Quillon looking at his parents—giving them that look. The one kids give when they’re asking permission to play outside at night.
That’s what he was giving them now.
Ashira and Aiden exchanged a look before Aiden turned to me. Without a word, Ashira took Quillon by the shoulders and guided him toward the house.
I opened my mouth to protest, but Aiden’s voice stopped me.
“You’ll tell us what’s going on, Lucianna.”
Even if he hadn’t said more, I knew there was more to it. His words carried weight—an unspoken promise.
He was going to tell me something in return.
Maybe a secret.
Maybe something just as big as what was happening with Jacob and the Shadow Eye curse.
