CHAPTER 18
Jayla's POV:
"Don't worry, Jay. You won't see him," Darby said, rubbing her back softly.
"He's an Alpha, Darby." I rolled my eyes, packing my stuff.
It was the holidays. My parents wanted me to go to Toronto, where my cousin was living with his girlfriend.
"I'm so excited to meet Hunter!" I started.
"Me too. Can I bring Sabrina with us?" Darby asked. Ever since I told him about werewolves, he was shocked to hear the news about me being the Luna of Dark Knights. I told him the story and the punishment that my friends had to suffer because of me.
"Yeah, I don't mind." I smiled and picked up the last item.
"Hey, weird kids, ready?" My dad asked from my room. I nodded as I took my bag and dropped them downstairs.
"Bro, I'm so gonna miss you, Dad!" Darby squealed.
"Me too. I'm not going to miss your ugly face," my dad said in a sarcastic tone.
"You made that face." He rolled his eyes.
"And I regret it."
I snorted when my father bashed him. Damn, bro.
"Why can't you be like normal dads?" My mother came in and hugged him from behind.
"The thing is, honey, I'm not normal. I'm a cool dad!" he said, winking at her.
The door rang. My mother opened it as I watched my dad and brother arguing about puppies.
"Max!" my mother yelled happily. I widened my eyes and snapped my head to the door where I saw him.
I sensed Darby staring at me. I sighed deeply.
"Mrs. Jacobs! Is Jayla here?" Max asked, looking at the living room. He came in and saw me staring at him.
"Here she is!" my mother pointed out. I rolled my eyes and sat on the couch.
"Hey, Jayla," he said, and I huffed, ignoring him.
"Jayla, be polite," my mom warned me, but I ignored her. I didn't want to see him.
"It's alright. By the way, where are you guys going?" he asked my parents sitting across from me.
"Jayla and I are going to Toronto." Darby sneered.
"What? You are going to Toronto?" Max said, looking at me.
"Yes, we are going to Toronto," I replied. I didn't want to talk to him, but I had to since my mom suspected that something had happened between us.
"But you can't."
"Why not? It's not like you have the choice." I scoffed.
"Because I need you," he said sternly. My mother in the back "aw" ed, and my father huffed.
"Relax. I'm going there for the holidays. I'm not going away," I said, sighing deeply.
"Well, guess what? I'm going to," he said with a smile.
"What? Darby!" I said in shock, looking at Darby, who held his hands up in surrender.
"I swear to God that I didn't tell this to anyone. Only Sabrina knows."
"It doesn't matter. I'm coming. I was actually thinking that I could invite her to my house, but if she's going to Toronto, then I don't mind going with her," Max said with a smile. If only I could wipe his smile off his face. I was sure he was up to something.
"Well, Jayla could always visit her cousin next time. She can stay at your house," my mother proposed sweetly. My heart dropped.
"Mother!" I yelled, standing up from the couch.
"Mom!" Darby yelled as well.
"Karen, why do you want to sell our daughter?" my dad said dramatically as he held his heart. I rolled my eyes at his antics.
"Silly Ryan. Jayla, I will call your cousin to say you will be going to Toronto next time. You need to spend some quality time with your boyfriend," my mom said with a smile. I couldn't believe her.
But then, I never told her.
"Did you tell her that we were in a relationship?" I asked Max, who was staring at me.
"I did. Why not?" he asked innocently.
"He did right, Jayla. There are no objections from us; you will go to his house!" she scolded me and walked to the kitchen.
"Dad, can't you help me?" I asked my dad, who shrugged.
"You know your mother. She's stubborn as fuck."
"I heard that, Ryan!" she yelled from the kitchen. My dad's eyes widened, and he walked to the kitchen. Good for him.
"I'm sorry, Jay, but I have to go," Darby said, ruining the moment. I glared at him as he ran outside with his suitcase.
"Well, let's go," Max said, grabbing my suitcase. I snatched my suitcase from him.
"I don't need help," I said coldly.
"I don't care," he said, taking back my suitcase and walking to his car. I huffed and followed. As he put my suitcase at the back, I gasped in fascination.
His car was amazing.
"What are you doing? Get in!" he said, sitting in the driver's seat. I opened the door of the back seat, but it was locked.
"Can you open it?" I asked Max, who shook his head.
"The only seat you can sit in is next to me," he said, patting the empty passenger seat next to him.
"Max, please." I pleaded.
"Jayla, don't fucking ignore an Alpha's demands!" he growled, and I rolled my eyes and sat next to him. He started to drive.
"How are you?" he asked after a moment of silence. What the fuck was he thinking?
"What is wrong with you?" I said.
"What are you talking about? Stop speaking in Mandarin!" he said, frowning.
"You have the audacity to ask me what's wrong when you literally forced me to sit here, chichi," I said, adding an insult in Mandarin that meant idiot.
"I'm not an idiot. Besides, I'm asking you how you are because you were sick, and I was worried," he explained, glancing at me.
"Then don't worry about me." I snapped.
"Xiju nuwang (drama queen),” he muttered.
"Barbarous (asshole)!" I yelled.
"Bandanna (bitch)!" he yelled back.
"You learned Japanese?" I asked him with shock.
"Baby, I went to Japan last year and stayed there for five months," he said smugly.
"Sukiyaki (liar)." I glared at him.
"I'm not lying." He sighed.
"Fuck off." I scoffed.
***
"No fucking way! You guys got into a fight with Japanese and Chinese insults?" Cole laughed, and I rolled my eyes.
"I'm going," I said. As I was about to leave the office, Max grabbed my arm and put me in his lap.
"What the fuck?" I squealed and pushed him, but he turned my head and pressed his lips against mine roughly.
"I'm gonna go." I heard Cole say as he left.
"What was that?" I breathed as he continued to kiss my jaw down to my neck.
"Shut up!" he growled against my skin.
"You can't just do that! Remember that we are still fighting." I said, trying to get out of his hold.
"Baby, you are fighting with me. I'm just taking you back to where you belong," he whispered as he sucked harshly on my vulnerable soft spot.
"Stop." I moaned.
"Hell no." He chuckled and continued his assault. I tried to get him to stop, but he wouldn't budge. He was strong, so I let him do that. I tugged his hair softly. He groaned and pushed down my shirt and the strap of my bra. Then he kissed my shoulders and sucked on them.
"Your skin is so soft," he said. With the other hand, he went down on my chest and touched my covered nipple. I gasped as he played with it.
"I can't wait to take it off," he whispered mischievously in my ear.
"Someone could be here." I moaned as he tugged my nipple.
"Who do you think can come into the Alpha office?" he muttered seductively.
"Hey, lovebirds!" a voice said in the office. Max dropped me on the ground. I squealed and rubbed my butt. I glared at him and mouthed, "I told you so."
He rolled his eyes and held a hand toward me, but I refused his hand and got up by myself. I was still angry with him. I was a fucking resentful bitch.
"Mathis," he gritted between his teeth.
"What? I am disturbing you?" he said, frowning lightly.
"Yes," Max said, glaring at him.
"Anyway, I wanted to say goodbye," he said, waving at us. I frowned.
"What? Where are you going?" I asked.
"I'm going to search for my mate," he said proudly.
"Thank God. It's time for you to get rid of your playboy ways." My mate rolled his eyes.
"Anyway, I'll see you guys next year if I can find my mate," Mathis grumbled.
"I'm sure you will find your Luna." I smiled, encouraging him.
"Thanks. I wish that you were my mate, though." He snickered and left the room before Max could throw his shoes at him.
I laughed and stuck out my tongue as a sign of mocking him.
"You will use that tongue for better things," he growled.
"Bye, bitch. I'm going," I said.
"Where are you going? You were supposed to stay with me."
"Don't you have Alpha work?" I asked, leaning against the wall.
"My baby boy, she's right. You have a rogue down there. He's waiting for you to get interviewed," his mother said from behind me. I snorted as he groaned in annoyance.
"Fuck you, Mom." He rolled his eyes.
"I'm already fucking your dad," she retorted. I laughed. His expression was priceless.
"Aw, not in front of me," he said with bitterness and kissed my cheek before leaving us.
"It's time to have some quality time with my son's mate." She smiled and shook my shoulders.
"Absolutely." I winked at her.
***
"That was him!" I said shockingly.
"He was so cute with his little butt. Did you know that he loved taking pictures naked?" Aphelia cooed.
The big Alpha loved taking pictures naked.
"What else did he like?" I asked. This would be fun for my revenge.
"I also remember that he loved taking my lipstick. Wait, I have a picture of him putting on lipstick," she said, flipping the book.
"Here we go!" she said, handing me the pic. I almost cried when I saw the picture. It was so cute.
"He's such a cutie pie," I cooed and kissed the pic.
"I can give that to you. I printed a hundred pics like this."
"Are you sure?" I asked, and she nodded.
"Of course, you are my son's mate, but please, don't show Max," she whispered.
"Your secret is safe with me," I whispered, and we giggled.
"What the hell are you doing?" a voice said in the kitchen. We jumped together, and Aphelia quickly hid the book while I put the picture in my pocket.
"Nothing, honey," she said with a fake smile.
"I thought that you were going to show her the book?" Max said as he took a milk bottle and opened it.
"I lost the book," she lied.
"Fuck, that's good. I would've burned that book, to be honest," he grumbled.
"Well, that's sad. I wanted to see pics from when you were a kid." I fake pouted.
"Trust me. It saves me from the embarrassment," he said, pecking my cheek and drinking the milk from the bottle.
"Normal parents usually show their kid's lovers some pics," Aphelia stated, trying to convince him. Gosh, I loved that woman.
"Yeah, but unfortunately, you are not a normal mom," he retorted.
"Well, I could be." She smiled at Max, who shook his head.
"No, don't change. Please, if you find the book, give it to me so that I can burn it, or I will give it to Cole, who will burn it." He smirked and walked upstairs.
"I'm never going to let him burn my precious book," she said, cringing.
"Then don't," I said simply.
