Chapter 59 FIFTY-NINE

Chapter 59 FIFTY-NINE
J A D E

I woke up in the middle of the night to pee. Markov was sleeping peacefully, and I tried not to wake him up. I made my way to the bathroom and did my business.

I washed my hands and went to the kitchen. Turning on the lights, to take a bottle of water.

As soon as I stepped into the kitchen, I knew something was wrong.m

The air was thick with tension, and I could feel my heart pounding in my chest.
I looked around, trying to see what was causing the feeling, and that's when I saw them.

There, standing in the corner of the kitchen, was a man.

"Don't move," the man said, his voice low and dangerous.

I froze, my body tense.

"W-who are you?" I asked, my voice trembling.

"Your worst nightmare," the man replied, a cruel smile on his face.

He stepped forward, and I could see him better. He was tall, and muscular, and he was wearing all black. My heart flew out of my chest as he walked towards me.

"Markov!" I screamed, hoping that he would wake up and save me.

The man's eyes narrowed, and he rushed towards me, his hand clamping down on my mouth.

"Shut the fuck up, you little bitch." he growled, his breath hot on my ear.

I struggled, trying to get away from him, but he was too strong.

"I told you to shut up," he said, his voice low and threatening. "If you don't, I'll slit your fucking throat."

I stilled, the threat sending a chill down my spine.

The man's eyes roved over my body, and I felt sick.

"You're a pretty one, aren't you? I see why she picked you. Such a shame that you won’t be my favorite knife’s victim. Yet."

He pressed a knife against my throat, and I felt a trickle of blood drip down my neck. I was terrified, and my heart was pounding so hard, I thought it was going to burst out of my chest.

"Now, you’re going to be a pretty little doll and not make a sound, or else I'll kill everyone you love."

His words were a whisper, and they sent a cold dread through me.

"Understand?" He asked, his hand tightening around the knife.

I nodded, my eyes wide and terrified.

"Good girl," he said, his smile turning cruel. "Now, let's get you out of here."

With that, he dragged me out of the kitchen through the back door he had broken into. Just as he was about to open the backdoor, Markov's voice stopped him.

"Let her go."

The man turned, his eyes flashing with anger.

"I'll let her go," the man growled. "Once I'm done with her."

With that, he raised the knife and lunged towards me.

Everything seemed to happen in slow motion.

Markov rushed towards us, tackling the man and knocking him off his feet.

The man and Markov struggled, both fighting for the upper hand. The man managed to get on top, and he raised the knife, ready to strike.

Markov was quick though, and he managed to dodge the blow. He reached out and grabbed the man's arm, twisting it until the knife dropped from his hand.

Then the man shocked us all, when magic suddenly erupted from him and pushed Markov away.

"Fucking saffra." Markov growled, his eyes turning red as he fought between staying human and shifting into his beast. He tried so hard to stop the shift, and for a second, I could see the man winning the fight.

But suddenly, his bones snapped and his muscles expanded, and I swallowed my gasp as I realized that I was about to see him shifting for the first time. And the sight was the most scariest thing I’ve ever seen.

His limbs grew longer and his figure was suddenly making the room very small. His muscles and bones stretched and expanded, his clothes ripping off him.

Fur started growing, covering his skin and his face started morphing into something not human, a lycan. A huge abnormally large lycan.

It was both fascinating and terrifying, and I was transfixed by the sight.

The man, however, wasn't as impressed, and he scrambled to his feet, looking for a way out.

He lunged for the door, but Markov was too fast, and he blocked his path, growling and snapping his teeth.

"Fuck!" The man yelled, turning and running towards the window. He smashed through it, and I could hear him running into the forest, trying to escape.

Markov gave chase, and the sound of his huge paws hitting the ground was enough to send a shiver down my spine.

I couldn't help it, my eyes followed him, and the sight took my breath away. His canines were already tearing into the man’s flesh and his claws were shredding the guy to pieces.

It was gruesome and violent, and I had to turn away.

When the noise died down, and the forest was quiet again, I forced myself to look.

And what I saw took my breath away.

Markov was standing there, covered in blood, his muzzle stained with the man's life force. He was panting, his eyes glowing a bright red, and his muscles were still tense, ready to fight.

I didn't know what to say, so I didn't say anything.

I just stood there, frozen in place, my mind reeling.

Finally, he looked at me. This was the first time since the night I ran from Alpha Dane that I was coming face to face with his beast. He snarled, and I knew he wasn’t too familiar with me. He wasn’t in total control of his actions, and it showed.

"It's okay, Markov," I whispered, my voice shaking. "It's just me."

He growled, and I could see the uncertainty in his eyes. He was fighting his beast, trying to gain control. He turned his back towards me, and his bones started snapping again.

I could hear the sound of his skin stretching, and his muscles growing. The noises were grotesque, and I had to close my eyes, not wanting to see.

When the noises stopped, I opened my eyes, and Markov was standing there, naked and bloody, his eyes still glowing.

"Jade," he said, his voice a deep growl.
I ran into his arms, and he held me, his embrace strong and reassuring.

"Are you okay?" He asked, his voice hoarse.

"I'm fine," I replied, my voice shaky.

"I'm so sorry," he said, his voice full of regret.

I didn’t know what he was apologizing for. If it was for saving me, or the fact that I had just seen his beast.

I was pretty shaken up and as soon as his arms came around me, the world blurred and everything went black.
