Chapter 44 Chapter 44
Chapter 44 Chapter 44
_Leon's POV_
The sound broke the silence. Talia froze. A second later, my mother's voice came from outside.
"Leon?"
My eyes widened slightly. "Come in."
The door opened and my mother stepped inside with a warm smile on her face.
"Are you taking your medicine?"
The moment she entered the room, I noticed something. Talia looked frightened. Her expression changed so quickly that someone else might have missed it but I saw it clearly.
Why?
Why would my mother entering the room scare her?
Before I could think about it further, Talia quickly placed the glass back onto the table and turned toward my mother with a calm smile.
"Of course."
Her voice sounded perfectly normal again.
"We were just about to take it."
My mother's eyes moved between Talia and me for a moment before she smiled warmly.
"Good. I was worried because you need to recover properly."
I nodded. "Of course."
But inside, my thoughts were moving quickly. I could not let my mother notice anything was wrong...not yet. I did not have enough evidence and accusing Talia without proof would only create more problems. I needed answers first.
I turned toward Talia and gave her a small smile. "Actually, I was just telling Talia that I feel much better now."
A brief flicker of surprise crossed her eyes. I continued before she could say anything.
"The pain is already starting to disappear."
My mother looked relieved. "That is wonderful."
I nodded and glanced at Talia. "She has been helping me a lot since I came home."
The words sounded completely normal but as I spoke, I carefully watched her reaction. For a moment, she looked slightly uncertain. Then she smiled.
"Of course. I only want to help him recover."
I slowly stood up. "I think we should go downstairs for dinner."
My mother smiled. "That is a good idea. You need to eat properly too."
As my mother and Talia continued talking, I slowly moved closer to the table. The glass was still there.
I needed to keep the contents but I could not let anyone notice what I was doing. If Talia suspected that I knew something was wrong, she might become more careful and I could lose my only chance to discover the truth.
I looked around the room casually, pretending that I was not thinking about anything important. Then my eyes landed on the decorative flower vase near the window. An idea immediately came to me.
While my mother was asking Talia about the guest room and whether she needed anything else, I quietly reached for the glass. I lifted it toward my lips, pretending to take a sip. From the corner of my eye, I watched both of them. Neither of them noticed.
I quickly turned slightly away and carefully poured the liquid into the empty space inside the decorative vase. The movement was quick and no one noticed. Then, I placed the empty glass back on the table.
"There," I said with a small smile. "I took them."
My mother immediately looked relieved. "I am glad."
Talia smiled as well but there was something strange about her expression. It looked forced.
"Good," she said softly.
I nodded and tried to appear relaxed. "I already feel better."
My mother seemed happy to hear that. "Come. Dinner is ready."
As she walked toward the door, Talia moved closer to me and reached for my arm. "I will help you walk downstairs."
I gently stepped back. "I need to use the bathroom first."
For a brief moment, she paused. Then she smiled. "Of course."
My mother nodded. "We will wait downstairs."
The moment they left the room, I closed the door behind them. Then I locked it. Only after hearing the click of the lock did I finally allow myself to breathe. My heartbeat was pounding as I walked quickly toward the vase.
Carefully, I removed the liquid and poured it into a small empty bottle I found inside my desk drawer. I then sealed it tightly. This was my only evidence.
I hid it deep inside my closet behind some old clothes and locked the closet door. For several seconds, I simply stood there in silence.
My thoughts were racing. Talia had lied to me and I did not know why. I did not know what she wanted but I knew that something was wrong. And I needed answers before it was too late.
After dinner, I waited until everyone had settled down and the house became quiet. Then I quietly left my room and walked toward my father's office.
There was only one person I could trust with this. Someone who had always remained loyal to the Silvercrest Pack.
Jack, my father's Beta.
When I entered the office, Jack immediately stood.
"Leon."
I nodded. "Jack."
He studied me carefully. "You need something."
It was not a question. He already knew from the look on my face that I had not come here for a casual conversation.
I looked at him seriously. "I do."
Jack waited patiently. I reached into my pocket and pulled out the small bottle I had hidden there.
"I need you to take this to the medical laboratory."
His eyebrows immediately furrowed as he looked at the bottle in my hand. "What is it?"
I shook my head. "I don't know."
His expression became more serious.
"I found it in my room. Someone mixed a strange white powder into my water."
For a moment, Jack became completely still. The calm expression he always carried disappeared.
"Someone?"
I nodded slowly. "I saw it happen and I need to know what it is before I make any accusations."
Jack remained silent for a few seconds as he studied the bottle. Then his eyes moved back to me. "Does your father know about this?"
"No."
He looked surprised. "Why not?"
I took a deep breath. "Because I do not have proof yet."
I stepped closer and looked directly at him. "If this turns out to be nothing, I do not want to create unnecessary panic. But if it is something dangerous, I need to know exactly what I am dealing with first."
Jack continued watching me carefully. "Who do you suspect?"
The question caught me off guard. My mind immediately went to Talia but I remained silent.
"I don't know yet," I finally answered.
Jack seemed to understand.
I continued, "Until we know what this is, I want this to remain between us."
For several seconds, he said nothing. Then he gave a slow nod.
"Understood."
He carefully took the bottle from me. "I will personally handle this."
"Thank you."
Jack placed the bottle safely away before looking back at me with a serious expression.
"Leon."
I met his gaze.
"Be careful."
Those words stayed with me. Because deep inside, I already knew. Something dangerous was happening around me. Something connected to my missing memories and Talia.
I watched as Jack left with the bottle. All I could do was wait.....wait for the answers that would finally reveal the truth.
And for the first time since losing my memories...
I was afraid of what I might discover.
