CHAPTER 52

The car moved along the dusty road as I gazed out of the window, lost in my own thoughts. The inability to use my wolf form weighed on me, but I was determined to overcome this limitation.

“I hope the boys are okay,” I murmured, more to myself than to others.

Hunter looked at me through the car's rearview mirror, offering silent comfort. “We'll find them, Fierce. No matter what happens, they are our priority.”

I nodded in gratitude, refocusing on the unfolding scenery before us. As we moved along the road, my mind was focused on my children. I felt a growing urge to find them and reunite the family.

The vehicle approached the spot where we had stopped before. It was time to pick up the trail.

---

The night was rapidly approaching, painting the sky with shades of orange and purple as Caleb guided the vehicle along the abandoned road. The air was tense, and uncertainty hung over us like an unsettling shadow. Hunter, beside me, attempted to track the scent of the boys, but the trail had vanished.

“Do you still sense anything?” Caleb asked, keeping his eyes on the dark road.

Hunter took a deep breath and, with regret, replied, “No, I don't feel it anymore.”

Caleb turned to me, concerned. “And you, Fierce? Do you sense anything?”

I leaned my face out of the window, trying to catch any trace of my children's familiar scent, but unfortunately, there was nothing. “No, their scent has disappeared.”

Hunter continued attempting to track, but it was as if the boys had evaporated into thin air. Caleb parked the vehicle on the shoulder, and silence settled in as we all processed the frustration of losing the trail. We were on the outskirts of Seattle, and the road ahead indicated the exit from the city.

“Where do we go now?” Caleb asked, breaking the silence.

Hunter sighed, running his hand through his hair. “I don't know. We've lost the trail of the boys.”

Caleb looked at me, awaiting an answer that I didn't have either. “Maybe they didn't leave Seattle,” I suggested, although uncertainty weighed heavily in my words.

Caleb agreed and decided it would be best to return to the city and investigate. Hunter, on the other hand, seemed hesitant, arguing that the kidnappers might have headed farther away.

“We don't have many options,” Hunter said. “We can look for the nearest pack. Cheyenne, Wyoming, is the closest place I know with a pack. Maybe they can help us in the search.”

Caleb raised an eyebrow, questioning the coherence of this decision. “But you said you didn't want to draw attention from other wolves, and now you want to go straight to a pack? It doesn't make sense.”

I looked at Hunter, seeking a response in his determined eyes.

“I know, Caleb, but it seems like we don't have a choice,” argued Hunter. “The pack in Cheyenne, Wyoming, might be the answer.”

Caleb thoughtfully looked between the two of us and then suggested, “I know a guy in Seattle who can help us. He's discreet, efficient, and knows a lot of people. Maybe that's what we need.”

I looked at Hunter, seeking approval. He nodded slowly, agreeing with Caleb's idea. “Let's give it a chance. But, Caleb, we need quick results. We don't have time to waste.”

He called the acquaintance while Hunter continued trying to pick up any trace of the boys. The minutes dragged on, and my anxiety grew with each passing second.

Finally, Caleb hung up the phone and looked at us. “He's willing to help us. We'll meet in a safe place. Let's go.”

Caleb started the car again, and we headed back to Seattle. The city, now illuminated by artificial light, seemed like a maze of possibilities and challenges. We drove in silence as Caleb navigated his way through familiar streets.

---

The journey back to the city was filled with tense silence. My mind was torn between the hope of finding the boys and concern about the path we were taking. Hunter, in the front seat, seemed to share the same anxiety.

We arrived in Seattle, and Caleb led us to a more secluded neighborhood, where he said we would find the aforementioned “guy.” We parked on a quiet street and walked to a discreet bar, an atmosphere that screamed “shady dealings.”

As we entered, a dark-haired man, surrounded by an aura of mystery, observed us from the bar. He was the guy Caleb mentioned. Caleb greeted him with a nod.

“Who are your friends, Caleb?” the man asked, his eyes fixed on Hunter and me.

Caleb quickly introduced us, and the man extended his hand to Hunter. “I'm Vincent. Caleb told me you guys need help finding some kids.”

Hunter shook Vincent's hand, maintaining his serious demeanor. “Yes, we're in a complicated situation. We need information and, if possible, resources.”

Vincent led us to a more secluded corner of the bar, where we could talk more privately. Caleb ordered some drinks, but Hunter and I declined. The less attention we drew, the better.

“Tell me everything from the beginning,” Vincent requested, leaning forward.

Hunter explained the entire situation, from the boys' disappearance to losing the trail. Vincent listened attentively, his expressions changing as he absorbed the information.

“Do you have any leads?” Vincent asked after Hunter finished his account.

“The trail of the boys completely vanished at the city's exit,” Hunter responded. “We don't know where they went.”

Vincent thought for a moment and then suggested, “Maybe I know someone who can help us. A skilled tracker, discreet. But he doesn't come cheap. He requires a favor.”

Caleb raised an eyebrow. “And what's that favor?”

Vincent smiled mysteriously. “Let's just say I have some enemies who could benefit from your... specialized knowledge.”

The atmosphere in the bar became tense as Vincent's words hung in the air. Hunter, Caleb, and I exchanged glances, evaluating the implications of what was being proposed. It was clear that Vincent knew more than he let on, and his offer wasn't just a friendly favor.

“Do you want us to eliminate your competitors?” Hunter asked, his eyes fixed on Vincent.

Vincent nodded, maintaining his cunning smile. “It's as simple as that. Do that, and I'll do my best to help you find the boys.”
