The next day dawned, and I was eager to resume our morning routine. As werewolves, Hunter and I used to meet near the river every morning. It was our special time when we shared secrets and stories, and I was determined to discuss what had happened the previous night.
Transformed into my wolf form, I emerged from the den, letting the soft morning light filter through the forest trees. The surrounding nature was alive, and I could feel the fresh breeze carrying the scents of the forest as I followed Hunter's familiar trail.
Finally, I found him near the river, also in his wolf form. He was lying by the riverbank, his gray fur shining under the sunlight. My wolf heart leaped with joy at the sight of him, and a part of me knew that this moment was a refuge amidst the changes happening in the pack.
I approached slowly, my tail wagging with enthusiasm, and then playfully pounced on Hunter. He skillfully dodged and stood up, his gaze focused on me. His expression was serious, catching me off guard.
“You're sharp today,” I said with a wolfish smile.
Hunter didn't respond immediately. He approached me, his snout almost touching mine, and I could see hesitation in his eyes. “What do you want, Fierce?”
I backed away a bit, confused by his reaction. “I want to talk about what happened last night in the cabin.”
Hunter frowned, and a shadow passed over his golden eyes. “Nothing happened.”
Frustration built up within me. “Hunter, you can't pretend anything happened. As far as I remember, a lot happened before Alastair showed up and ordered everyone to leave.”
He sighed, looking tired and worn. “Fierce, that night is a forbidden topic. We can't talk about it.”
I swallowed hard, frustrated by his reluctance to address what had happened. “Fine, Hunter. Changing the subject, how are you?”
He stepped back, his expression turning somber. “I'm fine, Fierce.”
Curious, I asked, wanting to know what Alastair had determined for him. “What did Alastair decide for you, Hunter?”
He didn't respond immediately, his gaze lost in the river's waters. “Alastair decided to mark my coronation as the next Alpha sooner than I expected.”
A smile spread across my face, unable to contain my joy. “That's wonderful, Hunter! Alastair seemed hesitant before, but now you'll be designated as the heir and the next Alpha.”
Hunter looked at me with a sad gaze. “At what cost, Fierce? Caleb and the others were banished.”
I felt my heart tighten at Hunter's sadness and approached him. “I'm sorry, Hunter. I know they were your friends.”
He looked at me and asked curiously, “And you, Fierce? What did Alastair determine for you?”
I sighed and looked around, as if the forest could provide me with the words I needed. “Now I am part of the omegas.”
Hunter's eyes filled with sorrow. “I'm sorry, Fierce.”
I smiled, though my heart was heavy. “Don't be sorry, Hunter. Somehow, this allows me a bit more freedom and not be so much in Alastair's sight. Plus, I made two new friends, Circe and Sibyl.”
Hunter seemed to brighten with my news. “That's good, Fierce. You deserve to have friendships here.”
I approached him more and asked with a playful look, “So, Hunter, how about a hunt today? Forget the obligations for a while.”
He gave a sad smile and shook his head. “I can't. I have obligations with Alastair today.”
I nodded sadly, knowing that Hunter's responsibilities as the next Alpha were immense. “Okay, Hunter. I understand. Maybe next time.”
Hunter nodded, seeming to agree with my words. “Stay vigilant, Fierce. If you need anything, I'll be around.”
I thanked him with a nod, feeling comforted by the fact that I had someone to rely on, even if we were separated by choices and circumstances beyond our control.
As Hunter walked away toward the pack, I knew that, although things had changed between us, there was still a special bond between me and Hunter. No matter what the future held, we were determined to face it together, overcome challenges, and find our own way to belong to the pack, maintaining our affection for each other.

After talking with Hunter, I headed to the place where the pack's omegas gathered. As they saw me approaching, Sibyl, a light-furred she-wolf, asked with curiosity:
“Where have you been, Fierce?”
I raised my snout, feeling the tension in the air, but replied calmly: “I went to the stream to talk to Hunter.”
Surprise flashed in their eyes, accompanied by widened ones. Cierce, the other she-wolf beside Sibyl, couldn't contain her expression of astonishment. “Fierce, you couldn't have done that!”
I tilted my head, perplexed, not fully understanding the reason for their shock. “Why not? What's wrong with talking to Hunter?”
Sibyl sighed exasperatedly. “Omegas aren't allowed to interact with other pack members, especially the alpha heir. That's unacceptable, Fierce. Don't ever do that again.”
The truth descended upon me like a shadow, overshadowing the innocence of my action. I, who had always been free to roam the pack's domains, was now restricted to a position that demanded more caution and adherence to rules. I nodded in agreement. “Alright, Sibyl. I didn't know.”
Cierce, with a sardonic smile, added, “You better learn fast, Fierce. Omega life isn't like what you were used to.”
I asked, still trying to understand the changes in the pack's dynamics: “But why is that a problem? We're all wolves from the same pack.”
Sibyl sighed, as if she had to explain something obvious. “Hierarchies in the pack are important, Fierce. Omegas have their places, and interacting with higher-ranked wolves can destabilize the order.”
Cierce added with a tone of disdain, “You were privileged before, Fierce, but now you'll have to get used to doing servile tasks like us.”
I furrowed my brow, perplexed. “Servile tasks? What are you talking about?”
Sibyl replied, with a tone indicating resignation, “Yes, Fierce. Unlike the privileged life you've lived until now, as omegas, we are often assigned to perform tasks involving cleaning, organizing, and other servile duties. It's our role in the pack.”
Cierce gave a malicious smile and said, “But don't worry, you'll get used to it. Omega life may not be as bad as it seems.”
I swallowed hard, processing the information. The reality of my new position was starting to settle, and I needed to learn to navigate these unfamiliar waters. “Alright, I'll do what's necessary.”
Cierce and Sibyl exchanged knowing looks, as if sharing an inside joke. Cierce then said sarcastically, “Welcome to the omega club, Fierce. Come on, we have a lot of work to do.”
I swallowed hard, feeling the reality of my new position. I was now part of the omegas, destined to perform tasks I had never imagined before. Sibyl's words echoed in my ears, reminding me of the distance between the life I knew and the one I was about to experience.
I accepted the challenge and followed Sibyl and Circe to the area where the omegas worked. The day was just beginning, but the routine was already in full swing. I washed hunting skins, organized food stocks, and assisted in maintaining common areas. It was a radical change, an adaptation I was not prepared to face.
Throughout the day, Sibyl and Circe guided me through the tasks, explaining the details of each responsibility now bestowed upon me. And as I delved into the activities, I realized the importance of each function for the pack's functioning. It was a new perspective, a view that eluded me when I was enveloped in the luxuries of my former position.
However, as I performed my tasks, I couldn't help but think of my brief interaction with Hunter that morning. Sibyl's prohibition echoed in my mind, but a part of me refused to accept complete separation. I understood the rules, but the desire to connect with Hunter persisted.
As the sun began to set, Sibyl and Circe led me back to the area where the omegas gathered. Fatigue weighed on my muscles, but there was also a sense of accomplishment. I had faced the tasks assigned to me, diving headfirst into a new reality.
Circe smiled at me and said, “You did well for your first day, Fierce. The pack needs all of us, and each omega plays a crucial role.”
Sibyl agreed, adding, “Over time, you'll get used to the responsibilities and understand the importance of our role. We are a vital part of the whole.”
I thanked them for their guidance, feeling a mix of gratitude and determination. I was a werewolf in transformation, not only physically but also in how I viewed my role in the pack.
