Falling Apart Again

TALIA'S POV

I told her that I couldn't have saved her, Michael or Taylor without Evan's help, and those are the first words she says to him?! What happened to her reasonable and diligent mind? Can anyone be more thankless?

Evan's beautiful face doesn't show any signs of annoyance, he looks totally unfazed by even as she takes a couple of steps back and glares at him. I wish I have the same control over my emotions especially when I know someone is acting irrationally.

The fact that he isn't taking her mad raving seriously doesn't mean he is totally fine with it. He is annoyed, of course, his face is, however, good at masking it.

Michael looks terrified as he looks up at his mother who has a tight grip on his arm. I imagine this isn't the happy reunion he has been looking forward to, she isn't acting like the incredible mother we knew. "Stay away from my family! We have had enough of your evils!" She again snaps at an unbothered Evan. The beta shakes his head in astonishment and disapproval. "All my children are leaving your palace. We are never making the mistake of thinking we are your friends again. Forget you have ever seen any of our faces!" She adds turning to go and dragging Michael behind her.

But he refuses to go, fighting with all his might to free himself from her hold.

"What do you think you're doing, mother? Have you lost your mind?" I question, standing in her way to block her from dragging Michael farther.

"We are going home, go get your sister from inside that palace and meet us at the gate!" She answers in an authoritative voice. She is clearly being controlled by unnecessary temper and her behaviour is too inappropriate for this moment.

"And where exactly will you take us? Another family already lives in the house we left." I say and see her face turn pale with shock. She lets go of Michael's arm as her hands fly to her mouth. He runs back to Evan who soothes him by gently squeezing his shoulders.

"Why did you allow that to happen? We have no home now?!" She gasps, panicking.

"We can stay here." I point.

"Never!" She huffs, running her fingers through her hair and making it a huge mess. "I would rather live in the wild."

I feel my own eyes fill up with tears. I thought I had finally succeeded in reuniting my family and it was time for a happily ever after. Seems like our mother suffered too much and changed. There is little hope for our good family to be whole again.

"Mum, please take time to think, you're overreacting because you're too angry." I plead but she shakes her head.

"We cannot stay here, I don't trust him or his maids. We all need to go back home!"

"That's alright," Evan says in a frigid voice as he steps forward and closer to her. She looks up at him with an astounded expression "You can have your home back, as long as we agree that you will only leave with Taylor once she is well. My mate and Michael are already used to living in my palace, I don't see a good reason for them to leave with you." He firmly states and waits for her reply.

She casts him a glare but her eyes blink severally. I imagine she too wanted the whole of our family living in one house, just not the imposing palace standing behind us. I too hated coming back here the first time, but Evan finally made it feel like home both for me and Michael. I had thought our mother would give him a chance as well.

"Why do you want my sister to leave?" I ask.

"She made it clear that she doesn't want to stay. I am not holding anyone against their will." He answers, his voice changing from cold to concerned and apologetic.

Taylor has been through unimaginable pain. I had still hoped that she would understand that Evan isn't the one she should hate now that he rescued her from our mad father. I don't think Taylor knows that Evan and his father were also fooled by the former Queen. I would blame him if he let her get away with it, but he didn't. I wish they would at least take time to consider all facts before rushing to unleash their anger on him.

I see him reach inside his trousers pocket and take out a few gold coins. He holds them out for my mother to take. "This will be enough to rent a room for yourself to stay for the few days that the other family will take to vacate your home."

She hesitates to take the money for a few seconds before hastily grabbing the coins from his hand.

"Come on Michael, let's get out of here. I am your mother, remember?" She says to Michael in a sweet voice but he shakes his head and takes Evan's hand.

"I want us to stay here. My room is big and beautiful, we can both sleep there." He innocently answers. She shakes her head in disappointment.

"Where is my other daughter? I am leaving with her if she wants to." She retorts.

"She is too sick to leave now, I am sure she will join you as soon as she is well enough to walk," Evan assures.

I am not okay with my family separating again. I will go talk with Taylor, and see if I can convince her to stay with me and Michael. I will have to hope that our mother will come back when she regains control of her anger and sees the truth.

"I want to see her and make sure she is okay before I leave." She demands.

"Please escort her to see her daughter." Evan requests the beta who nods and gestures at my angry mother to follow. He appears quite disappointed by her behaviour though.

"Please quit trusting him too much. He is no different from his mother. Don't forget that her evil blood runs in his veins." She warns before following the beta. My tears finally spill but I quickly wipe them away.
