All I Want Is Revenge

TALIA'S POV

"I got the news that one of my councilmen left his home last night and rode towards the south. I have no doubt that he is my father's spy." Miles informs with a proud smile like he didn't just make his mate run out as if she was being chased.

I shouldn't concern myself with their relationship. If Lacey feels really mistreated she will quit chasing after him. I don't know them better than they know each other. There is probably a good reason he dislikes her that much.

Can't deny that her undisguised desire to be with him and desperate attempts to please him are a bit repulsive. She is trying too hard, throwing herself at him which is not attractive for a girl. I bet he already thinks she is a gold digger.

I am also afraid that he actually looked nauseated when he first saw her. It was like he had seen something gross. He resents her and it's too difficult for anyone to turn that level of hate into love, least of all someone that is doing it the wrong way.

Loving or being loved is not a birthright. Lacey will move on once she realises that he won't accept her, which is not a sin.

"Is he the short man with white eyebrows and a moustache?" I ask, remembering well the face of the councilman who looked thrilled by Miles's decision to welcome me in the palace when others appeared enraged.

"Yes, that's the one. You know him?"

"No. He just appeared pleased with what you said to them yesterday." I answer.

"Sounds like you're good at observing and analysing people's behaviour. You're a perfect candidate for a Queen. Evan must be proud." He compliments.

I shrug my shoulders and force a smile.

I haven't had time to think about being Queen. I know the responsibility comes hand in hand with being Evan's mate. But the truth is I am not at all sure I am fit for the job. All I cared about is finding my family and my mate's well-being. The worry doesn't allow me to think about anything else anyway.

"No one followed the man, so we will have to wait until he returns. Most likely at night when he thinks no one is watching." Miles says, slowly approaching and taking a seat beside me on the bed. "As long as he comes back I can make him tell us everything." He adds in a reassuring voice.

I am sure what he means is he will torture him until he reveals everything. Guess all kings and Alpha are the same, ruthless to their enemies.

At this point, I can't choose who to help me or how. So I nod my head. "Thank you, you have done so much for us."

He chuckles. "King Evan and I had a deal. And I owe your mother a favour. She trained me well and also taught me how to be different from my father."

I imagine they got along well behind his father's back. I imagine she wouldn't have been passionate about turning him into an incredible warrior if she thought he was going to be like his father.

TAYLOR'S POV

I had thought that I had a few days or a full week to live. But it seems like my natural defences aren't that good. I have been losing the battle quite fast, now I suspect that my heart will grow still in a few hours.

I wanted to clear my mind of all thoughts and try to remember a few good memories so I can die peacefully. But my body is in excruciating pain and it's too hard for my brain to conjure up something delightful.

I feel bitter, rueful and terrified. I will die alone like an orphan. Obviously, Talia didn't get my letter. She would have done everything to save my life if she did.

I would have liked to at least say goodbye to her. But now that I

won't last that long all I want is revenge. I want her to make King Evan and his wicked family pay for the terror they caused us. She got powers, she can do it I am sure.

I haven't heard anyone approach the door for quite some time. The man that locked me up probably quit coming. Or I have been too weak to notice him. As I said things got worse, I have no strength to open a single eye. But I am capable of hearing though there haven't been sounds to listen to in this darkness except the occasional chirping of birds outside.

But now I hear the sounds of heavy footsteps approaching and it doesn't sound like just the man bringing another piece of bread to rot on the floor. But who else could it be?

I have never heard strangers passing by before. Which makes me wonder if I got locked up in the wilderness. Even if someone that can help is out there they have no way of knowing that I am in here. I have no strength to call out and my mouth feels extremely dry. My lips had developed cracks even before I fell sick.

The sounds of many footsteps keep getting louder like they are coming here. I know my mind isn't in a good condition which means I could be hallucinating. I am scared of death and my mind could be making up things to make me believe that the help I have been praying for is finally here.

I am afraid that even if a stranger came in here and saw me they would run. I can't see what I look like in this darkness but there is no doubt that I am a despicable mess. I haven't had a bath or a change of clothes throughout the months I have been here. Obviously, I stink. I can also smell the dust that has settled on my skin and clothes since I stopped moving.

My skin feels rough and taught. Definitely, I am also too skinny since I haven't had much to eat. My tangled and dirty hair has a filthy smell. I must look and smell like an old scarecrow that no one would want to touch.

I hear the footsteps halt close to the door and I feel a surge of hope. It cannot be my kidnapper because he always comes alone.

"You better hope she is alive because otherwise, I will have you beheaded in front of her mother!" A familiar, menacing voice roars.

It takes me several seconds to recall why the husky yet menacing voice sounds familiar. I flinch at the memory of the person that I think owns that appealing yet unnerving voice. How can he be here?
