Chapter 239
Chapter 239
Natasha's POV
I blink, realizing I'm slowly descending from the air, the silver light around me gradually fading as rain once again hits my face.
I still haven't fully transformed—so close, yet unable to break through that final barrier.
My feet stumble as I land on the muddy ground. My vision remains blurry, but I can see Victor approaching with his knife, his cold smile chilling me to the bone.
Then I spot Alexander suddenly appearing through the thick fog, and my eyes widen.
"Alexander!" My spirits instantly lift—he's finally here.
He looks at me deeply with silver-white eyes. "I'll buy you time. Run."
I reach out with trembling hands: "Alexander... no... he'll kill you..." Warm liquid runs down my cheeks, either rainwater or tears.
In the next moment, Alexander grabs Victor's shirt collar and throws him backward, positioning himself between us. He growls, his fur standing on end as he slowly advances toward Victor, who struggles to stand.
I fight to get up, leaning against a tree trunk to support my exhausted body. "Alexander, we need to leave! He has the knife!" I call out desperately, feeling dizzy.
Victor rises from the ground, wiping blood from the corner of his mouth, revealing a twisted smile. "Too late." His body begins to transform, bones making disturbing cracking sounds as muscles contort beneath his skin.
Victor fully transforms into an enormous black wolf, larger than Alexander's usual wolf form. His fangs gleam in the moonlight, making me instinctively step back.
Alexander faces him fearlessly, muscles tensed. "Natasha, stay back."
"You don't have to do this!" I cry out desperately, clutching the tree trunk to keep from falling. "He's your father!"
Alexander turns to look at me, his eyes already flashing gold, a gaze that breaks my heart. "And you are my everything." With that, he charges forward.
The two massive wolves circle each other, their growls mixing with the sound of rain. They move in circles, seemingly looking for the best moment to attack, or possibly communicating through their senses—I can't be sure.
Suddenly, excruciating pain hits my head. I clutch it and fall to my knees. "Ah!" The pain feels like thousands of needles piercing my brain. I'm beginning to transform—I can feel it. The changes in my bones and form make me nauseous; I feel like I might vomit any second.
In my line of sight, Alexander and Victor lunge at each other, claws and fangs tearing at each other's flesh. Black and silver-gray fur flies in the rain, mixing with the dark red of blood.
I gasp for breath, feeling my entire body restructuring internally. "Astra... what are you doing?"
I watch in horror as my fingertips begin to emit silver light, feeling an uncontrollable energy flowing through me.
The sounds of the wolves fighting are right beside me. Blood splatters in the rainwater as Victor gains the upper hand, his claws striking Alexander's neck, immediately staining the silver-gray fur red.
This fight is far more vicious than the one with Marcus. Victor wants to kill me, and even his own son.
"Alexander!" I scream, struggling forward. Each step feels like walking on knife edges as the changes in my body continue. I can feel my bones restructuring, but the process seems stuck at some stage.
I hear a shout, followed by a dull thud. I whip my head around to see Alexander throwing Victor aside. Seeing Alexander seemingly gaining the advantage, I feel slightly relieved.
But Alexander's advantage over Victor doesn't last long. I turn sharply to see Victor pin Alexander to the ground with one paw, the black wolf's eyes flashing with triumph. Alexander struggles desperately, his throat making painful whimpers, his claws leaving deep marks in the mud.
"No!"
My eyes widen as I watch the two wolves roll toward the cliff edge, only stopping precariously at the brink. My heart, which had leapt into my throat, slowly settles back.
Loose stones fall away, disappearing into the abyss below. One push or one wrong turn, and they would fall from the cliff.
I collapse just a few steps from the cliff edge, clutching my abdomen and pleading softly: "Astra, hurry... please..." I must transform.
An ear-splitting wolf howl tears through the night as Alexander's silver-gray body is thrown aside, his chest and abdomen soaked in blood. He lies there, barely able to move, breathing rapidly and painfully.
Victor shifts back to human form, picks up the fallen dagger, and adjusts his rain-soaked hair. "Look at you both, truly pathetic," he says contemptuously.
"You... don't... have to... kill her..." Alexander painfully shifts halfway back to human form, pressing one hand against his bleeding wound.
Victor laughs coldly, looking toward me. "It's already too late. The prophecy must be ended." He brandishes the dagger, approaching step by step. "The tale of the Lunawolf ends here."
I limp toward the fallen Alexander, tears and rain blurring my vision. "Hold on, please... don't leave me..." I gently stroke his cheek, but the blood flowing out only increases.
"Stand right there." Victor smiles grimly as he raises the dagger, its blade gleaming with deadly light. "It will be quick, I promise."
Ignoring him, I kneel beside the dying Alexander and kiss his cold lips.
"I love you..."
Then I slowly stand up, arms outstretched, feeling an unprecedented calm and power: "The Lunawolf legend is just beginning." I close my eyes and take a deep breath. "Astra, it's time..."
Victor cries out in horror: "No... impossible..."
I feel myself floating in the air, my hair flowing without wind, my eyes shining like twin moons. An unprecedented power fills my entire body. I can feel Astra's presence stronger than ever before.
"Victor, this is a power you will never understand..." My voice is no longer my own, as if hundreds of voices speak through me simultaneously.
My eyes open, beaming light toward Victor. The madness on his face is unmistakable.
He raises his dagger and charges forward: "I won't let you—"
Just as I'm about to dodge, I see Alexander grip Victor's ankle tightly with his scarred right hand. "No... father..." Blood flows from the corner of his mouth, but his grip doesn't loosen one bit.
Suddenly, I feel a tearing pain coming from my abdomen. I lift one hand that had been protecting my belly and see it covered in blood. Terror sweeps over me.
"No... baby!"
This can't be real.
I feel another surge of power entering my body. My hands and abdomen explode with intense silver light. I collapse helplessly to the ground, my eyelids fluttering...
"Natasha!" Alexander calls out in agony, reaching toward me. "Stop transforming! Think of the baby!" His words are filled with desperation.
Then, the light around me explodes, followed by a thunderous boom. Like a moon erupting on the cliff, my world turns silver-white. After the explosion, everything falls silent.
I find myself floating in a pure white space. No rain, no cliff, no Victor, and no Alexander.
"Alexander?" I call out loudly, but my voice seems swallowed up, quickly disappearing. I look around, but everything is consumed by silver-white.
Everything is quiet, as if the world has frozen.
Am I still alive? What about Alexander?
Or am I... dead?
