Would Mila Expect Me to Be That?
Julian
My wolf roars in my head at the sight of our mate unconscious on a bed that no doubt Roman planned on occupying with her. I move her limp body into a more comfortable position and let my fury spread out of me. When I whirl around and storm outside of the room, I see Roman being held down on his knees by two of my guys. The third has a gun pointed at his head and yet Roman snarls at me like he thinks I would be afraid of him.
“What was your plan, Roman? Drug her and then take advantage of her while she was unconscious, like the scum you are? Have you ever had a woman that wanted your diseased dick near her? Is this how you get, woman?” A deadly calm comes over me the more I speak and the way he flinches tells me he senses it.
He might be an Alpha’s son, just like me, but even he recognizes a stronger creature when he sees one.
“This means war, Julian!” Roman growls, but I laugh.
“You’re on our territory and have injured the mate of an Alpha. If anyone has declared war, it’s you.” I point out with a humorless laugh.
All his confidence melts away and reality sets in. He glances toward the bedroom and I growl lowly. He has no right to look at her! Before I can stop myself, I slam my fist into his face. Blood explodes from his mouth from the impact and his head lulls to the side.
“Sir, what should we do with him?” One of my men asks.
“Take him to the cafe. I’ll deal with him later. First, I need to take care of my mate.” I instruct them.
“My father is going to come asking about me, and it won’t be quiet. Your dad’s hopes and dreams will be dashed to hell when my dad comes looking.” Roman threatens, but I’m done with him.
If he keeps running his mouth off, I won’t be able to stop my wolf from killing him. The only reason he hasn’t yet is because his concern and need to be near my mate is stronger than his need to shed blood. I signal for the men to take him and go. The drag him to his feet and drags him out of the room. Once the door closes behind them, I walk back into the room where Mila still sleeps.
If I didn’t know she had been drugged, I would have thought she was sleeping peacefully.
‘We should bond with her now. Then she will not be in any more danger.’ My wolf says.
‘Then we would be no better than him. Bonding without her consent is no better than violating her body.’ I remind him.
He isn’t thinking straight. He’s desperate after this, and I don’t blame him. If we hadn’t come when we did, it would have been too late. Even though it would mean I was in my rights to kill Roman, I would have had to watch my mate suffer from the aftereffects of being violated. I’m furious and relieved all at the same time.
‘She must know the truth.’ It isn’t a suggestion and I have to agree with him.
I sat back and tried to let her live her life without me and all the shit that would come with being my mate, but I was mistaken. She needs to know what her future might be like. As I told my wolf, I would never force the mate bond on her, but I also won’t lie to her and pretend it isn’t there. If in the end she doesn’t want to bond, then I will try to convince her. I won’t be able to live without her now, but I also can’t throw into this world without her understanding it. This will need to be done carefully and slowly.
My wolf growls at that fact, but doesn’t fight it. Deep down under his animal instincts, there is understanding. His ability to tap into my human mind means he understands the importance of choice when it comes to our free will.
‘How do we fix her?’ He asks as I look down at her.
‘We have to wait for the drug to wear off, but I don’t want her to wake up in this room.’ I say back.
‘Where shall we go?’
‘Home.’
It’s not smart for me to take her to where I live, but when our bond is completed, it will be her home, too. Why take her anywhere else?
“Sir, the car is here.” One of my men says from outside of the room.
“Good.” I tell him as a dismissal and then I turn back to my mate.
I watch her for one more moment before I lean down and lift her into my arms. Like this, she seems so small and my protective instincts ramp up even more. How does someone so small hold the ability to heal anyone and still live? She’s so strong.
‘A perfect equal.’ My wolf says.
Fucking right.
When we exit the hotel room, two of my men are guarding the door and when we leave, they close the door behind us. The men surround us as we leave, hiding as much of Mila as possible from prying eyes. The last thing we need is a picture of me carrying an unconscious girl out of here. When I catch a glimpse of a phone pointed our way. One look at the hotel manager and he approaches the person and handles the situation.
The air outside is chilly and I feel Mila’s skin rise with goosebumps so I pull her closer to me to share my warmth with her. I climb into the car with her still in my arms and tell the driver to turn the heat on immediately. Mila makes a sound between a hum and a whine before she turns and snuggles closer to me.
“She’s coming out of it. Make sure the fridge is stocked before we get there. She’ll need food and to rehydrate.” I instruct the man in the back seat with us.
He nods and makes the call. I want my mate to recover well, so I need to be prepared. I should ask for clothes to be brought for her, but an image in my mind of her wearing one of my shirts makes the need for clothes unwanted.
The drive is silent and I prefer it so I can listen to the sound of Mila’s soft breaths. Her scent is stronger now, and I wonder if it’s because I’ve allowed myself to be so close to her. Or is it the combination of our scents that I’m smelling? I try to think back to everything I’ve learned about mates over the years. My dad didn’t think too much into it other than what the match could do for him. My mother was nothing more than a means to more power, and to provide him with an heir. Looking at Mila now, I could never see her as just a vessel for power and bearing children.
Maybe it’s because I’ve gotten to know her instead of taking her and boding with her as if she had little choice.
A few minutes later, we pull up to the budding where my house is located. I live in the penthouse of the financial building. My father hoped I would take over in the next couple of years. For a second, I consider how running part of my father’s business could be a safer option than what I had planned for myself. Holding on to the darker side of the family business could put Mila and our future children in danger. The thought doesn’t last long, though. Imagining myself sitting behind a desk in an office all day sounds boring as fuck. It’s not me.
Would Mila expect me to be that sort of man?
There was a time when I wouldn’t give a shit, but the nagging feeling of wanting to make Mila happy only gets stronger. I want her to be happy. I guess it’s something I’ll have to ask her when she accepts the mating bond.
We pull into the underground parking lot that’s only accessible by me and my people. It’s where my cars are parked and there is a personal elevator only accessible by key code. I carefully step out of the car and hold Mila close to me as we head into the elevator. Our morphed reflections dance along the shiny metal lining the inside of the small room. When I added this elevator, I created it as a bunker if anything should happen in the building. I’m a target for a lot of dangerous people, so this room acts as a safe room. Mila will have access to it when she moves in here. If anyone comes looking for her, she would be safe in here.
