Warn Scott and Pick Princess Up
Julian’s POV
Isabella leads me down the path from the library and heads down the path that leads to the athletics department.
“You know how much about him? Football player?” I ask her. It’s almost all I know.
She smirks. “Baseball actually. He’s tried his hand at all of the usual sports but got into college on a baseball scholarship.”
Not much better if you ask me.
“So what’s your plan to deal with him, anyway?” She asks.
“I’m going to warn him to stay away from Mila.” I say simply.
“I got that, but how? Are you going to threaten him with bodily harm or actually harm him to send a message?” She sounds a little too excited by the second option.
“Depends on how well he listens. I don’t like to get my hands dirty so early in the day..” Lie. “But if I have to, then I will.”
She nods in approval.
We walk the rest of the way in silence. The closer we get to the fields set up near the athletic building, I can hear the sound of balls hitting bats and the defining sound of whistles. I never saw the appeal of sports, but few people have had my ways of expelling unwanted energy. Shifting and taking out those who stand against our organization and pack helps with any pent up energy I have. Except since Mila came into my life. Not being around her makes me crazy and no amount of distraction has helped.
So even though I continue to say I should leave her alone, I can’t seem to. Now I’m going so far as to take her shopping, knowing she will wear the new clothes I give her when she’s out with him. The thought makes me clench my fists.
“He should be through there. I’m going to wait here. I don’t like jocks.” She makes a face of disgust and leans against the closes wall with her arms crossed.
“Thanks.” I say awkwardly and head in the direction she pointed out to me.
I walk through the door that leads out to the baseball field and am hit with the smell of dirt everywhere. A bloom of dust is kicked up when one player slides along the dirt. A whistle goes off again and the guy I’m assuming is the coach starts yelling at one of the players.
“Hey, if you're looking for the chess club, you’re in the wrong place.” Someone says before laughing.
I ignore him and scan the players for the guy who looks similar to the one in a photo Isabella had shown me. Most of these guys all look the same, and I lose my patience.
“I’m looking for Scott!” I yell in the direction of the players.
The guys make ridiculous noises and push a guy towards me.
“Hey Julian.” The guy says before resting his hands on his hips.
I look him over and scoff. Mila dated this guy?
“Do you know Mila?” I ask him.
He laughs. “That bitch? Yeah, I know her. What’s it to you?”
Some of the other guys laugh along with him. I do not.
“I came here to tell you nicely that you should stay away from her unless you want to be drinking out of a straw for the rest of your life, but now…”
I don’t bother finishing before I slam my fist into his stomach, making him bend in half and gasp for air. Then I grab him by the hair and slam my knee into his face. He cries out and falls to his ass, crying like a baby.
“Take this as a warning. Don’t go near Mill again. Oh, and if I hear you call her a bitch again, you will be taking a trip to the hospital. Got it?”
He’s crying and rolling around dramatically, so I kick him in the ribs to make sure he’s paying attention.
“Am I clear?” I say.
“Fuck! Yes! Okay!” He shouts.
“Good.” I turn and walk past his teammates, who wisely step aside to let me pass.
Smart. I’m close to murdering that asshole and anyone who comes to his defense. I stop at the door when I see Isabella with her phone up and a smile on her face.
“Did you film that?” I ask her.
She smiles. “Heck yeah. Mila is going to love this.”
“Just don’t post it on social media or some shit.” I warn her.
“This is for my girl’s eyes only. She’s going to love it so much that she’ll dump Roman and throw herself at you.” She smiles down at her phone and types something before locking it and slipping it into her pink purse. “So now what?”
“I’m going to pick up Mila and Steven.” I walk off planning on leaving her behind, but she jogs to catch up.
“I can pick her up, since she’s staying with me.”
I shake my head. “I’m taking her to get some shit for her classes and clothes.”
She makes a girly excited sound and does a little dance. “Shopping is my favorite thing to do with her. She is so stubborn, but I always buy her something when we go. I love her, but she wears the most boring things, and she’s too pretty to be dressing down like that. She needs to let her beauty shine.”
“Your the one who picked out that outfit she wore on her first time at the club.” It’s not a question because it seems to make the most sense now that I’ve seen Mila outside of work.
“Sort of. She saw it and smiled, so I convinced her to try it on and she looked amazing. So I begged her to let me buy it so she could look amazing on her first night. She has it in her to look amazing, but needs a little push. So….”
She looks at me expectantly, but I don’t know what she wants from me. “What?”
“Can I come?” She gives me a pleading look that has no effect on me, but I consider it.
Mila seems to trust her judgement on clothes and this tiny pink thing has a way of convincing my mate to pick things she wants. She may be some help to me.
“Fine.” I say. “But I’m paying for her things.”
“Deal!”
We stay quiet the rest of the way to where I’ve parked.
“Uh, your car only sits two.” She points out when we arrive.
“Steven can ride with you. Where’s your car?”
She points in the direction of the mathematics building where I’ll be meeting Steven and Mila.
“I’ll give you a ride there and then Mila takes your seat.” I walk around to my door and place my thumb on the sensor.
It unlocks and I climb in. Isabella doesn’t give in right away, but after a few seconds, she huffs and opens the door.
“You could have opened the door for me.” She says with a huff as she climbs in.
“Whoops.” I say with zero sincerity.
She must hear the lack of remorse because she glares at me.
I hear her grumble something, but don’t bother acknowledging it. We arrive in front of the mathematics building and see Mila and Steven already waiting. Mila laughs at something Steven says, and he smiles down at her. A wave of jealousy washes over me, but it’s quickly put out when I remember Steven is loyal to me. He has never given me a reason not to trust him, and it’s why I knew he would be the right person to protect my mate.
“Who is that?” Isabella asks.
“Mila’s bodyguard.” I tell her.
“Well, he looks like he’s perfect for the job.” She fans herself and I shake my head.
Just what I need, a pink princess distracting Mila’s guard. I park the car and Isabella doesn’t complain again about having to give up her seat. In fact, she nearly knocks Mila over to claim her carpool buddy. I climb out and walk over to the passenger side door to hold it open for Mila. Steven looks my way as Isabella drags him over to her car and I smirk knowingly. He mouths ‘help’, but I shake my head.
“I’m not sure if you should leave poor Steven alone with her.” Mila says stopping next to me and watching her friend drag Steven to her pink car.
He looks comical when he attempts to slide into the car. I have to choke back a laugh, but Mila lets hers loose. My eyes move to her laughing face and my wolf whines. He wants to see her like this all the time, not just during the short moments we get with her. He doesn’t understand why I keep her at arm’s length. Even I’m not sure why I’m trying too hard to keep her away any more. I know Roman is no good for her, and yet I let her be close to him. Maybe the excuse of protecting her is becoming more and more like a lie. Maybe I should claim my mate. Fuck the consequences!
