Getting out of my towel, I lay flat on the bed fully naked. The breeze coming in from my windows and touching my skin was the best feeling ever.
I let out a deep sigh and stared at the ceiling. ‘This would be the perfect time for Betty to be here, laying next to me.’ I thought with a wide smile on my face.
It’s been almost two weeks since we last saw each other. After leaving here, she didn’t call or text. And I can’t do the same.
She warned me several times not to reach out first as this could be dangerous for both of us.
But now, I really want to text her and tell her how much I miss and love her. I can’t just wait for this whole plan to be over and then we can finally be together.
While I fantasized about the perfect happily ever after ahead of us, a message popped into my phone, jolting me out of my thoughts. I hastily sprang to my feet to reach for my phone.
I recognized that sound perfectly. Anytime it sounded, I knew it was Betty texting. I grabbed my phone and lay on the bed again with a wide grin.
“Hey baby, we need to talk.” The text read.
“Sure. Let’s talk over the phone.” I responded, and almost immediately, her call came in. I sat up as I enthusiastically answered the phone.
“Hey, baby,” I uttered, still smiling widely.
“Hi, how are you?” She asked.
“What do you think? You haven’t called me in like two weeks? Not even a text. How do you think I’m doing?”
“I believe you’re fine. You knew what you signed up for, didn’t you?” She answered, and I scoffed.
“Fine. So, to what do I owe this pleasant attention?”
“It’s about the plan.” She responded. This time, her voice was lower than before.
“Okay? But why are we whispering?” I whispered.
“Because Celine fell asleep in my room and I’m talking to you from my bathroom. I can’t let her hear what I have to say.” She answered in a whisper again.
“Why didn’t you just let us text instead of calling?”
“Maybe because I wanted to hear your voice?”
I chuckled at her response and shrugged. “Fine. So what’s this about?”
“I… I don’t think I want to go on with the plan, baby.” She uttered, causing me to furrow my brows.
“What are you talking about??” I asked in confusion.
“I don’t think I want to hurt Celine or her baby anymore. These past days, she’s been so good to me. They all have been so good to me. Why would I want to hurt them?…”
“Okay, slow down, woman. I want to really understand you right now. You want to call off the plan because they’ve been so good to you? When were they ever bad to you? You told me you wanted to do this because you hate their guts…”
“That was before I got closer to Celine and realized she was indeed an angel. I have been thinking about this for days, and if I do this, it will only prove that I am an evil person. That I am a monster.
“Ever since we apologized to each other at the pack meeting, things have changed in a way I never thought they would. She treats me like her sister. She’s the sister I have always wanted to have. I can’t hurt her. Not anymore. I just want her to be happy.”
After she stopped talking, I blinked severally to confirm that I wasn’t dreaming.
“So you don’t hate them anymore? Not even Alpha Kilhan? Does that mean you still have feelings for him?”
“No, of course not. I want him to be with his real mate, Celine, the same way I want to be with my mate too.”
“Wait… just wait. Your mate? What about us? Because the plan is called off doesn’t mean we have to stop seeing each other.” I answered, standing up.
“No, we don’t have to stop seeing each other. And like I said the last time I was with you, I’m going to give us a chance.”
Hearing her say this, I felt butterflies in my belly. I was scared she was going to call everything we shared off.
“Great.”
“So please call the necessary people and tell them we aren’t interested anymore. I don’t want to be the bad news on Kilhan’s birthday. It should be successful. We all deserve that.” She added.
“Fine. I’ll call the necessary people and let them know. I must confess, I’m happy for this change. Really happy.”
“Me too. I have to go now. I think I need a nap too.”
“Sure, of course. And dream about me and the next time we are going to meet.”
“Right.”
She hung up and I heaved a sigh and began to search for the phone number I needed to call.
Even though Betty wasn’t interested in the plan anymore, I was. The whole plan wasn’t about her. I had my reasons too, and nothing was going to change that.
The plan continues, with or without her.
“Yes, boss.” He said from the other end of the phone.
“This is to ask if you haven’t forgotten our plan.”
“No, boss. We are making progress.”
“Good. Make sure nothing silly happens. It has to go as planned. And if it is a job well done at the end, I promise to add ten percent to your pay. That’s how badly I want this to work.”
“Great, boss. Trust us on this one.”
I hung up and let out a deep breath. ‘I can’t just let you two be happy. Not after you ruined my life and family. You are going to pay. No matter how much time it takes.’
‘And as for Betty, I still love her regardless of the decision she had made. And I still want to be with her.’
A smile curved up my face again as I remembered she said she was going to give us a chance. For the first time in a very long time, I was going to finally have a woman to call my own.
And not just for sex, but because I want to spend the rest of my life with her.
‘I should start taking steps towards being a serious man in a serious relationship.’ I thought to myself excitedly.
I picked up my phone again and started deleting the numbers of the women I called anytime Betty wasn’t around to keep me busy. Friends with benefits they call them.
If I was going to be with Betty, I needed her to see that I wasn’t going to play her or hurt her.
After I selected a number of them and deleted them, I proceeded to the dating apps on my phone and began to delete my account, one after the other.
I logged into the last dating app on my phone, and just as I was about to delete my account, I mistakenly swiped left on the profile on my screen, only for Betty’s face to pop up on my screen.
“Betty?? What the hell is she doing on a dating app? And she’s new here?” I uttered in surprise. I read through her profile and scoffed.
“I need a serious man, preferably my mate.” I read in disgust and anger.
“So much for giving us a chance, hun?” I muttered.
In rage and betrayal, I closed the dating app and went to my call log again. I dialed his number and waited impatiently for him to pick up.
“Boss.” He finally answered.
“There is a little change in plan,” I uttered, pacing angrily in front of my bed.
“Tell me, boss.”
“We are not capturing two people anymore, but three. Celine, her son Kendrick…” I took a pause, swallowing hard.
“Who is the last person, boss?”
“Betty.”
