~Celine~
We left Anna’s bedroom and headed to ours in silence. I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that she may have been poisoned.
‘But if she was poisoned, how come she’s awake now?’ I was lost in thoughts.
Entering the room, Kilhan took the lead. “What is going on in that pretty head of yours?” He asked, walking to the table where he had kept some drinks.
“Ermm… nothing much. I just can’t stop thinking about what Anna said. Do you think she was poisoned too?” I inquired, and he shook his head, pouring out drinks for us.
“I don’t think so.”
“Why though? You think she’s lying?” I asked, watching him move closer to me with the glass. “Thank you,” I muttered after collecting it from him.
“Because it just doesn’t make any sense. I mean, a coma wouldn’t give her prior warning, would it? It must have taken her by surprise, which is exactly what must have happened.” He uttered, settling on the couch.
I moved closer to him and sat on the couch with him. “I know, but hearing her say it happened otherwise raised my suspicion in a way that I don’t understand,” I added, sipping out of my drink.
He did the same and shrugged. “She’s awake now. A poisoned person doesn’t just wake up. The doctor confirmed she was in a coma, not that she was poisoned.” He added with a deep breath, and I nodded in agreement.
“Well, what I’m trying to say is simple. Let’s open an investigation about it.” I uttered, and he creased his brows as he turned to look at me.
“What? Why do that when we can use that time for other things like taking care of Kendrick?? Do you think someone poisoned her? No one would ever do that to my mother. We have been a family for years. What would anyone gain from killing her?”
“Kilhan baby, I’m not saying someone poisoned her. I’m saying you deserve to know the truth. Opening an investigation wouldn’t hurt, would it? Especially when you’re so sure she wasn’t poisoned. At this point in our lives, I don’t think we should overlook any situation or information.” I further explained, hoping this would get him to open an investigation.
I wanted to believe it was nothing, and maybe a part of Anna’s brain had left when she was in a coma, but Kiara didn’t agree with that, and she’s bothering me about it. Telling me there has to be an investigation.
After thinking about what I said for some minutes, he heaved a sigh and nodded.
“Fine. I’ll call for a pack meeting and ask questions about that day and the meal. But you should know that I’m doing this because you have insisted, but because I believe someone tried to kill my mother.”
“Thank you so much for listening to me again, Baby. Let’s call the pack meeting as soon as possible.” I added, and he nodded in agreement.
He stood up from the couch and moved to the door. “Tell Drex to set up a meeting with the pack right now. It’s urgent.” I heard him say to the guards.
With a satisfied smile on my face, I stood up and moved closer to him while his back was still turned to me. As soon as he turned, I was in front of him, smiling softly.
“What?” He asked softly, a smile forming on his face too.
“I love how you listen to me every time. It… makes me remember when we first met. How crazy you were about me.” I uttered in a low tone, my gaze constantly falling to his lips.
“Celine baby, I am… still crazy about you.” He answered, slowly sliding his arms around my waist, pulling me closer. He let out a mischievous smirk as he leaned in for a kiss.
“This wouldn’t stop anytime soon if we start, right??” I whispered hungrily, my hand finding its way to the groin and I found out he was already hard as a rock.
“No, and you can’t escape. You started it.” He responded in a whisper too, hungrily taking my lips in his. I breathed in deeply, grabbed onto his hair, and deepened the kiss.
His hand grabbed my butt, giving it a tight, naughty squeeze. I broke the kiss and looked into his eyes even though he could barely open them.
“I want you to f**k me. Harder than you ever have.” I muttered, and I could see the surprise and excitement on his face after he heard me say this.
Just as we were about to kiss again, there was a knock on the door.
“We are gathered, Alpha Kilhan.” We heard Drex’s voice from behind, causing us to sigh in frustration even though we knew we’d be interrupted anyway.
“We’ll be right there, Drex,” I answered, with my eyes still locked on Kilhan’s face.
“We must continue what we’ve started after the meeting.” He whispered, and I nodded.
“Of course. I have nothing else to do.” I answered teasingly, planting one last kiss on his lips before heading out of the room.
Getting to the living room, we met the pack members seated as expected. I held onto Kilhan’s hand as we both walked to the two chairs in front.
I could feel the weird gazes on me, but I wasn’t going to let this affect me or bring me down. I knew Betty wasn’t the only one who hated the idea of me being around after what happened.
“I’m sorry for the impromptu meeting, but something has come to my notice. The day of the attack at Darius’ apartment, you were sent home that same day, right?” Kilhan asked, and they all nodded.
“Which means you were all present when my mother lost consciousness.” He added.
“We were all at home, but we weren’t exactly with her. She was in her room. She came out to see us once, and when we told her about you, she retreated to her room quietly.” One of them answered.
He nodded and turned to look at me. “And after this, did anyone else see her?” He further asked, and they all nodded, except two people, Betty and Drex.
“I didn’t see her, but I saw Betty carry her food to her. This is like an hour or two after she heard the news.” Drex answered, causing me to gulp hard.
‘Damn right!’
“Betty?” He called, and she sighed with a frown on her face.
“I did go into her chamber to give her food, at the same time I shared it with everyone else too. After giving her the meal, I left so I could attend to the others.”
“So that means you lied about her losing her consciousness immediately when she heard the news about Kilhan. That wasn’t immediately, but hours later.” I butted in, and they all turned to look at me, some of them looked confused.
“What the hell are you talking about? She wasn’t herself after the news!” Betty answered angrily.
“What’s this about, Alpha Kilhan?” Drex asked in confusion too.
“Celine, please.” He whispered to me, and I breathed hard and nodded.
“Nothing. I’m just trying to get an answer here. After you gave her the meal, did you go back to check on her?”
“No, I didn’t because I was busy with the others, and everyone here can testify to that! Why do I feel like I’m being accused of something?” She further asked in rage, and everyone nodded.
“You’re not being accused, Betty. We are just trying to check out the possibility that maybe she didn’t lose consciousness because of the news, and maybe it was something else.” Kilhan further explained.
“But why would you think so?” Drex asked and continued talking.
“I went to check on her because she told me she wanted a meeting with us. When I got to the room, she was unconscious and I called the doctor immediately. He told us she lost consciousness out of shock.” He further explained, and everyone went silent.
Betty shut her eyes and shook her head, displaying utter disappointment. “I can’t believe this.” She said and stood up.
“Betty,” Kilhan called, but she cut him short. “I can’t believe you are now trying to accuse one of your own! Who gave you this idea? What are you trying to insinuate? All our life, we have trusted one another, and this has always helped us. Now, it’s different. Why? Because she’s back?” She asked, and everyone was silent, staring at her as she spoke.
“I’m so done!” She smacked and turned to leave.
Kilhan wanted to call her, but I stopped him. At this point, I wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to investigate the situation anymore.
“Betty is right, Alpha Kilhan. We have been here for you forever. We have always trusted each other. This shouldn’t change now. Not now. Betty has always been here, and I know she can be difficult sometimes, but she cares about you and all of us, and she deserves better.” Drex uttered, causing me to gulp hard too.
It was the very first time Drex didn’t take Kilhan’s side.
‘This was a terrible idea.’ I looked at Kilhan and watched him clench his jaws.
“Meeting dismissed.” He ordered, standing up from his chair. They all stood up and left, leaving both of us.
“I told you this wasn’t necessary. Now, it’s as if I’m against my own people.” He muttered, walking away.
“I’m sorry, Kilhan. I just didn’t…” I stopped talking as I watched him keep walking without looking back.
‘He’s mad at me.’
