~Alpha Kilhan~
Getting to my compound, I deeply breathed in its air, recalling every memory I had had in this compound.
I couldn’t help but imagine what would have happened if Alpha Darius succeeded in killing me.
‘I'd never have seen this house again. And who would have taken over as Alpha??’ I wondered.
“Drex, of course,” I answered loudly, heaving another sigh before I began to approach the house.
As I moved closer and my guards saw it was me, they lifted your voices, called out my name, and began to howl. I was happy to see them too.
My pack members ran out of the house at the sound of the guards’ voices and when they saw me. They all went on one knee, lowering their heads.
A wide smile curved up my lips as my eyes moved from one person to another, from guards to pack members.
‘Only one person made it possible. And that was Celine. I owe her.’ I thought, moving even closer to the door.
“I missed y’all so much,” I uttered, and they all stood up and ran towards me, throwing their heavy hands around me until we all fell to the ground.
“Ouch.” I groaned as my back hit the ground.
“We are so sorry! We are just so happy you’re back. How did it happen?” They asked in unison, and I smiled.
I looked around for one person, but this person happened to be missing. “Where is Mother?” I asked, and they all looked at each other, slowly getting off me.
They fell back and sat on the ground, watching me sit up. My eyes slowly scanned their sad faces and immediately, my chest began to rise and fall intensely.
“Where is Mother?” I asked, looking at Drex who gulped hard, avoiding my gaze.
“She’s in her room.” He answered, and without waiting to hear anything else, I sprang to my feet and ran towards the door.
“Alpha Kilhan! Wait!” I heard Drex call behind me, but I didn’t stop running.
So many thoughts that feared me filled my head and I didn’t even know where to start.
“Alpha Kilhan, please wait,” Drex called from behind me again.
“I need to see my mother!” I answered in frustration, and when I got to her door, I opened it and busted in.
On the bed, my mother lay quietly. She looked like she was unconscious and next to her was Betty, who seemed to be fast asleep with her head on my mother’s bed.
“Mom?!” I called, rushing to her bed, but she didn’t respond.
Betty raised her head and when she saw me, her eyes widened and she sprang to her feet.
“Kilhan?!” She called and ran to me, throwing her arms around me. “You’re alive.” She mumbled tearily, while my hand hung in the air, staring at Mother.
“What happened to her?” I asked as tears heated my eyes. I moved Betty away so I could hold her hand.
“After she heard that you were captured by Alpha Darius, and when we came back, you weren’t with us, she lost it. She fell, lost consciousness, and has been in this state ever since then.” Drex explained behind me as I stared at my mother’s face.
Clenching my jaws, I lowered my head and shook my head sadly.
“How did you escape?” Betty asked, and I raised my head to look at my mother’s face again.
“I didn’t escape. He let me go.”
“What? He let you go?” Betty asked, and I raised my head to look at them.
“What did the doctor say when they came to check on her?” I asked, and Drex moved closer.
“He said we’d just have to wait for her to wake up. For now, she’s in a coma.” Drex explained, and I nodded with a sigh.
I stood up and nodded slowly, making my way out of the room.
“Hey. Hey.” I heard Betty call from behind me, and I turned to look at her.
“Are you okay?” She asked worriedly and I scoffed.
“What do you think? My mother is in that state because of me! It’s my fault. I should have listened to her when she warned me not to go against Darius. But I kept acting like I knew better.” I uttered in frustration, storming to where she stood.
“But you had no idea what was going to happen, Kilhan. It’s not your…”
“Exactly why I shouldn’t have done what I did. I put my pack’s life at risk because of my stupid infatuation with revenge and now my mother is on the sick bed with low chances of her coming back to life! So yes. It’s all my fault.”
“But you weren’t killed. The pack is back too…”
“I was almost killed. They were almost killed too…” I butted in, but she cut me short too.
“But you weren’t…”
“Because Celine saved our asses, okay?!” I roared, causing her eyes to widen.
“Celine? She was there?” She asked while I made my way to my room, ignoring her questions.
“So she was in it with her father? I knew it.” She uttered as soon as we entered my room.
“You don’t know anything, Betty,” I answered coldly.
“Then tell me. Why was she in her father’s house after she told you she hated him too? She lied to you.”
“And she saved my life, Betty. I owe her.” I answered, abruptly turning to look at her.
“You owe her? What are you even talking about? If this girl hadn’t come into our lives your mother would still be conscious.”
“You’re wrong. I would still have avenged my father no matter what.” I added, and she shook her head in disbelief.
“And here I thought that you had gotten over her. Why can’t you see this is all her fault? Did she charm you again?”
“Betty, please! This isn’t the time to throw blame, okay? I need to rest and think of the next step.” I answered with clenched jaws and she slowly nodded.
“And here I was thinking you would have learned your lesson and seen that girl was never supposed to be in our lives.” She muttered and turned to leave.
With my jaws clenched, I watched her storm out of the room and shut the door behind her. I sighed deeply and slowly dragged my feet to my couch.
I slammed into the couch and threw my head backward, thinking about what Alpha Darius said to me about Celine being involved with another man.
‘If she was truly involved and wanted me to leave, why did she keep screaming my name? And why did Alpha Darius kill that man the way he did.’ I reminisced.
“And why are we thinking about this?” Khan asked.
“I don’t know, Khan. But one thing I know is that Darius must be lying about Celine getting involved with someone else.”
“You rejected her.”
“No, that was you! And even though I did, she was so nice to me there and she saved my life.”
“Doesn’t mean you have to be with her again,” Khan answered.
“Who said I want to?” I denied it almost immediately.
“Oh please, I am your wolf. I know exactly what you desire. She can’t get back to you, Kilhan. You rejected her and sent her packing. I mean, I was Celine, I’d never want to see you again.”
“I know. I know, okay? But… why do I keep feeling like I can make things right? Khan, you saw how she cared for me in that cell, how she looked at me. She wouldn’t just wake up one day and decide to chase me away. Things aren’t adding up. Darius is definitely hiding something.” I mumbled to myself as I continuously stared into space.
“So what do you want to do? Go back to the lion’s den?”
“No, not that. But… I have to find out what Darius is keeping from me. For him to keep it from me, I know it’s very important. It’s something he knows I’d definitely love.”
“And how are you going to find out what he’s hiding?” Khan further asked and I sprang to my feet. I rushed to my table and grabbed my telephone.
I opened my small jotter and searched for Charles' phone number.
“Are you kidding?! You want to call his son? And you think he doesn’t know his father is trying to keep something from you?”
I took a pause and stared at the numbers on the telephone.
“I… I just need him to put me on the phone with Celine. If she is with someone else, she should tell me herself. Not from a lying bastard.” I thought as I dialed his number, waiting anxiously for him to answer.
