~Alpha Kilhan~
“It’s been seven months, Alpha Kilhan. Are we sure Ashley Grayson is still on our side?” Drex asked as we all gathered for another pack meeting.
“If we have to go against Alpha Darius, then we have to take things slow. I still keep in contact with her from time to time, and the last time we spoke, this was what she gave me.” I answered, throwing the file in my hand on my desk.
“She gave me full details of the formation of his guards and men. At the main gate, there are about thirty of them. And they are like this at the remaining three corners of the building. Fully armed, dressed in armor.” I further explained.
“What? You’re joking, right?” Betty asked in shock, as she hastily picked one copy of the paper on the table. I saw her jaw drop as she read through the paper.
“How the hell are we going to go against that?” Drex asked in shock, and the others nodded in agreement with it.
“Well, we’ll have to find a way. That’s why I called this meeting. At least, now we know we have an insider.”
“Kilhan, this is a suicide mission. We need a plan B.” Betty answered fearfully, causing me to stare at them in disbelief.
“So we are all just chicken out?!” I sprang to my feet in anger. I have been on this Darius for months, and so because of this stupid formation, we should forget about it! My father and I didn’t train you to be cowards! We are not retreating! We are doing this!”
“That is you, Kilhan. What if they refuse to go? I mean, if I were your pack member, I wouldn’t even be here today because I’d believe you want to get me killed.” My mother butted in as she walked to where we were.
“You expect them to have high morals after you just told them there are about one hundred and twenty guards in the compound? I mean, that isn’t even in the main building where Darius would be. That is a death mission, okay? If you want to do something like that, do it yourself!” My mother added, causing me to clench my jaws in anger.
I looked at all of them one after the other and realized they weren’t ready to oppose what my mother had said.
“That’s it? You all are leaving this to me? You won’t even let us come up with a plan?!” I smacked.
“Why would they? If you had listened to me and had done it my way, we would have gotten him out of his house and brought him into our trap with a bait. But you just never listen to me.” My mother spoke up before anyone could.
“This is about Celine, isn’t it?” I asked in frustration, and she shrugged, letting out a smirk.
“But what do I know?” She answered, sitting next to Betty.
“Fine! If you're not going to do this my way, I’ll do it myself! He was my father anyways, not yours!” I smacked, kicking the table out of my sight as I stormed out of the living room.
“Kilhan!” I heard Betty call behind me, but I ignored her as I boiled in fury. I got into my office and when I was about to shut the door, she rushed in with me.
“Kilhan, baby.” She called and I immediately turned to look at her.
“Don’t you dare call me baby.” I muttered as I felt my body vibrate.
“Do you know how stupid you and mum make me look in front of the pack? Like I didn’t know that ten people going against a hundred and twenty dressed in armor is a suicide mission?”
“We know you have a plan, Kilhan, but we are all scared. Also, how can we trust Ashley that she is telling the truth? She’s been away for several months. Do you think she has not changed her mind about working with the other powerful end?”
“She has her son with us! She asks about him all the time!”
“And what if that is something she and Darius came up with? I mean, they are married. She must have been brainwashed.”
“If that’s true then, what do I do?! This whole thing is wearing me out! I just want to be done with it, and y’all are not helping matters at all, okay?” I answered, slamming into my couch and lowering my head.
Betty moved closer to me and sat next to me, putting her arms around me. “I can imagine how you feel, baby…”
“Don’t baby me, okay? I’m no one’s baby.” I answered, getting her hands off me.
“I know you’re saying that because you’re just very angry right now. So I’ll let it slide, okay?” She responded with a smirk, and I looked at her.
“And if you don’t let it slide? Listen to me, Betty. I’m not your baby. And whatever you think is going on between us isn’t going on between us. Just so we are clear.” I uttered, looking away.
“Like I said, you’re angry and it’s okay. But I’d advise you to listen to your mother. Surprisingly, she is ahead of us than we could ever expect.” She said, and I furrowed my brows.
“What do you mean?” I inquired.
“Let me call her in, okay? You two should talk.” She answered and stood up to leave. As soon as she was out of the office, the telephone on my table rang.
I sprang to my feet and ran to get it. It was the telephone I used in communicating with Ashley Grayson.
“Hello?” I uttered, waiting impatiently to hear her speak.
“Hello.” She answered in a whisper.
“Why are you calling? Any new information?” I asked eagerly and I began to pace in the middle of my office.
“Yes. I found something new. The guards at the gate and in the building take turns. Some are there at day time, and some at night time. It takes ten minutes for them to make their shift and reposition. Is that enough time to do whatever you’re going to do?” She asked, and I heaved a loud sigh.
“That should do. But why are you only giving me information about the other men? What about Darius himself? Any weakness? Any moment when he’s not on his toes?” I further asked.
“I have been waiting to see something useful for months now, Alpha Kilhan. This man is just so braced up. I don’t know…”
I heard a door shut from the other end, and she went dead silent. “Who are you on the phone with?” I heard Darius ask her, and my eyes widened in shock.
I remained quiet as I listened to what she was going to say.
“No one. It’s no one.” Nervousness filled her voice as she spoke.
“No one?! Do you think I’m a fool?!” Darius yelled, causing me to hastily move the phone away from my ear.
“Sh*t!” I cursed under my breath and the next thing I heard was a crashing sound as the phone disconnected.
“That isn’t a good sign,” I muttered, breathing very hard.
Just then, my mother and Betty walked into the office. She saw my countenance and hastily ran to me.
“What’s wrong? Why do you look like this?” She asked, and I gulped hard.
“I think Darius just found out about me,” I uttered, raising my head to look at her. She tightened her jaws and let out a deep breath.
“I think this is the best time to let you know the truth. We have to do this my way, Kilhan. This plan of yours is definitely not working out. Will you at least listen to me?”
“Mother, if this is about Celine…”
“I’m not asking you to kill or hurt her, okay? We just need her to get her father out of that house and into where we want him to be! And who knows, according to you. she hates her father, she can do the honors of ending him herself.” Mother added.
“It sounds so easy, but I don’t think I want to see Celine. Also, it’s been almost a year, I don’t even know where she is.” I shrugged.
“Well, that’s where the ‘she’s ahead of us’ part comes in,” Betty answered and turned to look at my mother who was already smirking.
“I know where she is, and we are going to get her and bring her back here.”
