~Alpha Kilhan~
After the meeting the previous day, I sent Drex and Nelson, one of the Gammas out to fetch Ashley Greyson. I had put a hold on the business operations we had going on. This was more urgent.
Getting into my office, I felt someone follow right behind me, and it happened to be Betty and my mum.
“What has come over you, Kilhan? What is going on? Is there something you want to tell me?” Mother questioned, moving closer to my desk.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I answered with a straight face, diverting my attention to the files on my table.
“You’re really going to bring Ashley Grayson into this house?! Why would you do that? She was your father’s concubine!” She yelled angrily.
“Do you want my father’s death to be avenged or not? This is me doing the best I can do about that, so please, don’t question the decisions I make.”
“Kilhan…” She called, but I butted in.
“Why are you so angry at her anyway? She wasn’t the only one who cheated. Your husband did too.”
“Yes, but he’s dead and I can’t stay angry with a dead person. I need to find someone to blame.” She answered.
“You should blame yourself for not making thorough findings after suspecting that he may be cheating back then.”
“Kilhan, watch the way you talk to your mother,” Betty responded fearfully, her gaze moving from my mother’s face to mine.
“What? What do you expect me to do, hun? Ashley Grayson will be dead just like my father, very soon, so if you want to throw blame at people, you better do it to yourself now, because Ashley is dead already.” I answered with a firm tone, and I didn’t feel sorry for anything I said.
I saw my mother clench her jaws tightly, staring intensely at my face.
“All we want is that justice be served for your father’s death. It wouldn’t be bad if I joined in the process, right? You do your thing, and I’ll do mine.” She uttered threateningly, turning to leave.
“What do you mean by that? What are you talking about?” I sprang to my feet as I got a hint from what she had said.
“What do you think? You keep saying you’re doing whatever you can. Well, let me do something too. Let me kill someone from Alpha Darius’ family too. Just so you know, you are not the only one who promised to ruin the entire family of the murderer.”
Hearing her say this, I got the clue even better. In frustration, I moved away from my desk and approached her, but Betty hastily stood in front of me, blocking my way.
“Kilhan, please. She’s your mother.” She uttered, hastily grabbing my hand so I could calm down.
“You are not going to touch Celine,” I said as firmly as possible.
“Watch me do it. You want to bring Ashley Grayson into the house? Fine! Do it. I won’t stop you anymore. But don’t you dare stop me from going after Celine, because until she’s dead, justice isn’t fully served.”
Saying this, she headed out of my office and slammed the door behind her angrily. I gritted my teeth so hard, thinking about what she had said.
This was the first fight I had ever had with my mother, and I wasn’t sure how to feel about that.
“Kilhan…” Betty called softly, slightly moving my fierce gaze from the door to her face. “Don’t think about it, okay? She’ll get over it. She just doesn’t like how you keep disregarding her feelings.”
“Well, she’s disregarding mine too. And you can do that only because she’s my mother. That is the only reason she can talk to me like that.” I withdrew my hand from her and turned away, but she grabbed me from behind, resting her head on my back.
“Don’t work yet. You’re not in the right mood. You won’t work smoothly. Come and sit on the couch with me.” She uttered, and I slightly tilted my head to look at her.
Heaving a loud sigh, I nodded slightly and turned to look at her, even though she refused to remove her arms from around my torso.
With a wide smile on her face, she held my hand and led me to the couch. She looked into my eyes and tapped the couch, telling me to sit next to her.
Just then, I noticed she had worn all-black, and even her eyeliner and nails were black.
“Black, hun?” I asked with a smirk as I sat.
“Well, I wanted to see that smirk.” She responded shyly, lowering her head.
“You won. Congratulations.” I answered, resting my back and letting out another deep breath.
Internally, I was tired. I just couldn’t wait to get past all I had in front of me, so I could finally rest.
“How are you, really?” She asked, and I shook my head.
“I think I’m…” Before I could finish speaking, I felt a sharp pain in my chest, causing me to grab my chest and wince in pain.
“Argh!” I groaned, grabbing onto the couch tightly.
“Kilhan, are you alright? What’s happening?” Betty questioned fearfully, grabbing my hand.
The pain was so excruciating that I felt my eyes water. I knew what had happened, no one needed to tell me the cause of that pain.
‘She has rejected me.’
I clenched my jaws as I pushed back the tears that threatened to fall out of my eyes.
I slowly let go of my chest and gulped hard. I turned to look at Betty and put on a fake smile.
“Let’s drink,” I said to her, and before she could respond, I stood up and walked to the other side of the shelf, where I kept some bottles of vintage wines.
I could feel Betty’s gaze on my back as I walked. I knew she was curious to know what was going on, but I wasn’t going to say a word about it.
‘It is for the best.’
I grabbed two bottles of wine and two glasses and headed back to where Betty sat.
“What’s going on, Kilhan? Your eyes are glowing.” She uttered in terror, and I shrugged.
“Don’t they glow all the time?” I asked with a chuckle as I settled down.
“No. This is different.” She insisted.
“Well, maybe I’m just excited about tasting these vintage wines,”
I answered, ignoring her suspicions as I poured out the wine into the glasses.
Filled to the brim, I passed her one of the glasses.
“Cheers,” I said, slightly hitting my glass against hers.
“What are we cheering for?” She asked with furrowed brows.
“Ummm… well, to us. We’ve come so far together, and we should celebrate this.” I responded, with a satisfied nod. She nodded too and we both drank the wine.
In one go, I gulped down all that was in my cup and started pouring another.
“Wow. This tastes really good.” Betty answered, drinking her wine the exact same way I did.
“You remember when we once stole my father’s wine from this same office, and he came in and we had to hide under his desk until he got out?” I asked, and she broke into laughter.
“Yes. Yes. Oh Goddess… I was so scared that day! I thought it was going to be our last day on earth!” She answered as we gulped down our second glass.
“We have done so many crazy things together. Good old times.” I uttered, pouring my third glass.
“Yeah. I wish we could go back to those days.” She answered, leaning closer to me.
“How is that possible? We were just teenagers.” I replied, gulping down my third glass.
I was about to pour myself the fourth glass when she held my hand. “Take it slow, Kilhan.” She muttered, her eyes wandering on my forehead.
“What?” I asked with a creased brow.
“You’re sweating.” She responded in a low voice, slightly touching my forehead, and that was when I realized I was sweating.
I swallowed hard and slowly moved her hands away. “The weather is pretty hot,” I answered.
“But the Air Conditioner is on. I don’t think it’s the weather.” She answered, and before I could respond, she pushed my upper body backward, letting me rest my back on the couch.
In the twinkle of an eye, she threw her leg to the other side and sat on my thighs.
“What are you doing, Betty?” I asked as she reached for my buttons.
“Helping you remove your shirt since you’re so hot.” She responded, unbuttoning my shirt.
And surprisingly, I let her. Soon, all unbuttoned were undone, and she went ahead to remove the shirt from my body.
With her gazes locked, she lowered her head and began to plant kisses on my chest. I gulped hard and reached for her hand as I tried to stop her.
“Betty.” I could barely hear my own voice.
“Shh!” She placed her finger on my lips, and with her finger still on it, she covered my mouth with hers. She pulled her finger out and our lips fully touched.
At first, I felt my body freeze and I couldn’t reciprocate the kiss. But then, I remembered… ‘She rejected me.’
“You know what??…” I held onto her head with my hands, pulled her even closer, and dominated the kiss.
“…F**k this.”
